Are we still pissing and moaning about this?

We don't know either way. The VoLTE network is active as of today.

Wait till the 19th.

I'm pretty sure that the new iPhone will support VoLTE on Verizon. When I added their Advanced Calling 1.0 feature (Verizon's name for VoLTE) to my line, it actually showed me now to enable VoLTE on iPhone.

Who talks on the phone anymore? I'm finally dumping AT&T since their service in Manhattan has gone to crap over the past year. So long unlimited data. :(

I don't expect to be bothered by this limitation much at all.

There will be an instance or two every now and then, but it's not anything to base a decision on.

VoLTE allows talk and surf and Verizon has this ready to do as of today.

Of course, this is only the case in 4G LTE areas.

(...) It might change when they do voLTE, but they aren't doing that right now or any time soon. I would say that this is almost a definite no.

According to Verizon's site:

Advanced Calling 1.0, a first-generation service suite enabled by Voice over LTE, or VoLTE, technology, is now available on America's largest and most reliable 4G LTE network with XLTE.

I assume any area with XLTE will have voLTE. According to this press release, it rolled out yesterday (September 15, 2014).

no second antenna

like the gentleman explained in one of the previous responses since Apple will not put the second antenna in required to allow talk and surf using CDMA you will not be able to do this on Verizon's network until VOLTE comes out.... Now you are getting to the real reason why Verizon hates Apple and the iPhone... All other vendors Samsung etc. agreed to put the second antenna and that's why you can surf and talk with their phones and not the iPhone's..... This is why Verizon always steers you away from buying an iPhone because it highlights the weaknesses of their data infrastructure.....

Except that this was an Apple decision as far as putting in an extra radio or not...so how does verizon hating anyone even relate to that?

The below is a very good read on this simultaneous voice/data topic. This article elaborates on how VoLTE will work specifically for Verizon.

I don't see the value of HD calling, if it's only limited to calls over your network. I understand that the person you're calling should have a VoLTE phone, and network as well. It should be hardware specific, but not network specific. But it defeats the purpose if I can't call anyone and get HD audio.

Probably something that will expand as more carriers and phone manufacturers support it and it all becomes more mainstream.

Because lack of a second antenna

because lack of second antenna highlights the fact that the Verizon network cannot support voice and data at the same time.... Foremost AT&T users they can't even consider switching to Verizon if you use this feature... All other vendors play nice when Verizon asked to install that second antenna except for Apple.... So they push the other models because with them you can talk and surf...

So volte should work tomorrow? Does it matter who I'm talking to or do a specific set of circumstances have to be met in order for it to work?

One of the really big problems with Verizon's implementation of VoLTE is that there are no handoffs between the LTE network and the 3G network.

If you start on a VoLTE call and you lose LTE coverage, your call will get dropped.

Can someone who gets a Verizon phone today confirm that you can actually swap calls and conference call like the AT&T iPhone? See link.

This is exactly what I would like to know as well. Surely someone has received a Verizon iPhone 6 today and can provide this information. I just received my ATT iPhone 6 but am unsure if I will keep it or give Verizon another chance before leaving.

Same situation here, if you find out, post back and vice versa although I'd love to see a video before returning the AT&T phone.

Are you asking about this being possible when using VoLTE or just the same existing network without VoLTE? Because without VoLTE nothing relating to that would change as the same CDMA network would be in use with the same limitations that apply to CDMA.
