Too optimistic. If they were close to being ready what possible reason would there be not to have included them keynote?
I don't think they'd be bumped out for Lego, Memojis and exercise bikes.
small spec bumps don't really need a big announcement.

There is a difference between "want" and "have to."

Until you've polled every single Apple developer, it's still hyperbole.

You have proof that not one single solitary developer likes it? Or you basing it on anecdotal evidence?

LOL, no one cares. You're harping on irrelevancies. Touchbar is finished. Get over it.

The people advising 2015 model purchases are almost borderline malicious if someone were to listen to that awful advice. Apple Care + makes sense for any Macbook Pro/iMac Pro purchase anyways so I don't see why there is any issue in buying a 2017 Macbook Pro...

I'm typing this on an early 2011 running 10.8. Obviously it doesn't matter to some people, but most like to be up to date. Your 15' is on borrowed time.

Don't want to hijack the thread but 10.14 will run on mid 2012 machines - 6y old HW, which means 15" from 2015 (I have mid 2014 with Nvidia) will be just fine for another few years in. Costs a bargin compared to 2016 machines even with discounts and in worst case will make great machine in Windows and eGPU (eGPU on T1/T2 on macOS is a PITA)

My guess is that all post 2012 hardware will get obsolete the moment Apple starts mixing ARM and Intel processors in computers....till then, we're still 'safe'

The people advising 2016/2017 model purchases are almost borderline malicious if someone were to listen to that awful advice. No one should be forced to buy AppleCare+ just so he/she can get his/her lemon "repaired".

Getting Apple Care + is smart regardless. If you need a dedicated GPU the 2015 isn't option so there isn't much of a choice if you want a Macbook Pro right now.

Regarding Apple Care, let's say in 3 years down the line and still within the Apple Care cover, the 2017 keyboard is still problematic. What are the chances of them replacing the 2017 model with a newer/current model? Or would they continue replacing the top case?

I honestly don't know but I'd imagine they would replace the keyboard.

The first 2016 I had went through one "cleaning" with compressed air, two top case replacements, and Apple engineering remote data gathering. When the keyboard failed again, it was replaced with a 2017 version.

very interesting, thank you!
two top case replacements, though, what a hassle. I assume you were without a machine for several weeks during these times.

No purchase right away for me. I will keep using my 2015 15" MBP. Works fine and the keyboard never gives me any issues. And if it do have a problem I have AppleCare until mid-2019

Strangely, I got the 2015 right after WWDC in 2016 and the non-release of the new form factor MBP. They released it in fall and I thought about upgrading, but could not justify it. So glad I waited.

After the issues with the 2016/2017 keyboards, if a new 2018 MBP is announced in fall I plan on waiting to see reports of issues from early adopters. And then maybe upgrading as a XMAS present to myself.

The other great part of this, the more I think about it, is we are on the sidelines completely of the dongle concerns and time is passing to let eGPU solutions mature and diversify - etc

There is a part of me that's wondering, at this point, if I may be holding off all the way until what I think is certainly in the pipeline - ARM Mac laptops.

But even if not that - I'm just happy to not be exposed to the messes of the current gen.

One day when keyboard issues are resolved and hopefully the TouchBar gone (I'm really against buying one of those, even if the keyboard gets better) - I could see myself having an eGPU setup for video work. I do want even more docking options though. So far really only the Mantiz Venus has peaked my interest, as it has USB ports, LAN, and crucially, internal SATA. I'd love to see even more concepts along those lines.

Going to grab a refurbished 2017 because I'm going 5K Monitor + EGPU for work reasons. I hate the 256GB of internal storage though. I'm sure the extra 2GB of VRAM would be nice but if I have the EGPU it shouldn't matter.

Like you I need a new MB Pro. Waiting is not an option as I need a dedicated video card for some software from school. Much to my chagrin the advise has been to get a souped up 2015. I love my little 13 in. But pricing what I need on amazon and Owc, Macmall, ebay and others has me really excited. For well under 1600 I can get a 2015 with apple care included, and a decently configured retina 2015. My 2015 souped up 13 will demand a higher price than that. I tried a new 2017 from Apple for 30 days and back it went. You really need to try the new keyboard and the TB before committing to it. I am very happy going with my 2015 decision. Terry

At this point I’m pretty set on waiting for the formfactor change and the presumable switch to ARM. Ice Lake being pushed back into the long grass was probably the kicker, but avoiding key gate will also make for a less stressful ownership, I’m sure. Now I just have to hope they revert to the magic keyboard design rather than going for a touch panel...

Honestly, I'd search out a screaming deal on a pre-owned 2015 Mac laptop before I'd go anywhere near the current lineup.

what would be considered "screaming" on a 15" 2015 (2.8 or 2.9GHz and 512GB) model?

the prices im seeing are about $500 less than current model pricing. i was hoping to find better pricing than that.

The touchbar is useless. Not a single developer wants to work with it.

Apple acts like it doesn't exist.

Do you have any data on the keyboard failure rate? Otherwise, you are just blowing out your backside.

The touch bar is far from useless. To you maybe but then go buy a different laptop. Plenty of companies make them.

I will not buy another Apple laptop until they change the keyboard they are using. I went Windows for a while, until this fall when we see what is new.

Tired of Apple trying to make everything so thin that they are throwing quality to the side.

Well I guess you’ll never buy another MacBook again lol. Apple is going to go full steam ahead with the keyboards and touch bar ( you’ll piss even more people if you remove it now fully )

Prices on the 2015 have gone up about $500 just in the last day or so. Probably since no new hardware was announced, disappointing since I was looking around for a decent 13 or 15 inch mbp to replace my 2009. I noticed the 13 inch 3.1 i7 or the 2.9 i5 being listed for 1200-1400 vs closer to 900 just 3 days ago. Insane prices all around.

Exactly correct. The first replacement took 6 days (though to be fair, one was a weekend day) and the second only took 4 (dropped off Monday, received back Thursday). Still a nuisance! And our experience with other 2016s and 2017s has been similar - I noted in a different thread that one of the 2017s keyboards failed within 6 days. That makes it impossible to recommend the 2016 or 2017 models.
