Face ID and touch ID for me. Touch ID on the back where the Apple logo is as a fallback.
The only thing FaceID needs now is unlock directly to home screen without swiping. Just give us the option, Apple.
Thats because you held the phone too close to your face during setup. Lol! It wont recognize you at odd angles if you do that."Better" is a relative term. And perhaps better for some, but not for all. I returned my X today because FaceID was too annoying for me. It recognizes my face just fine, that's not the issue. But I often check my phone at odd angles, like when it is laying on my desk, or sitting on my nightstand charger. FaceID refuses to see my face at these angles, so I first have to pick up the phone. Besides that I find that "swipe-up" motion from the bottom awkward with one hand, feels like the phone is about to drop out of my hand. It's a no-go for me. But to each his/her own!
That is hideous!!! Wow!!!no.. we're talking about touchID so that means there would be no notch!

Apple is withholding this so people will beg for it and Apple will present it like a feature at WWDC next year when iOS 12 is announced.FaceID is the way to go. It's already really great now. If it gets even faster and more accurate, I see absolutely no reason to use TouchID ever again.
This is coming from a previous FaceID hater until he used the X hands-on.

Face ID is terrible i cant u lock the phone on the side table i have to pick it up and stare then swipe up touch id works raise to wake and auto home screen this is much slower
Yeah its turned off but doesnt help still cant unlock it at an angleYou don’t have to “stare then swipe”. Swipe as soon as you pick up and look at it. I also don’t need to pick up my phone for Face ID to work (but yes, obviously it needs to see my face in the vicinity). Have you tried turning off the attention required setting?
For me, Face ID is just so fluid. When I pick my phone up, my thumb just goes straight to the bottom of the screen to swipe up and the motion just feels so natural.
On my 7, when I pick my phone up, my thumb just goes straight to the bottom of the screen ... and that's it. One action, rather than two.

After a few days with the iPhone X, I don’t even think about Touch ID anymore. It truly is inferior.
I don't see how that's possible. With Touch ID, I pick up my phone with the habitual thumb placement and it's unlocked before I even look at it. I don't have to swipe after picking it up. I know the time differences are minimal but they surely mount up in everyday use.

Try FaceID for a day or two. I doubt you will bring up TouchID again. FaceID, in my opinion, works much more seamlessly. I barely notice it.
You can’t change the future if you are constantly looking over your shoulder at the past!
Face ID is great and will only get better.
Most insightful post I've seen thus far!that will never happen. They might find a way to hide the notch under the screen, but once Apple goes a step forward, they never go back. The headphone jack is a good example.
