Why would you pay for something that Google and Samsung will offer for free? And Google's AI features are likely to perform better
Samsung promote their phones with AI here as "free until end of 2025".

So they plan on charging if they can. ;)

Not just No but Eff NO.
Tim Apple is out of his mind if he thinks people have any interest in paying $20/month for this nonsense.

If there is a subscription tied to the extended use of Apple's AI when released, I'm interested in the market response to this and how much of the user base buying a 16/pro have used ai and to what extent went this far to push the button and pay up. Would this allow siri to spread it's legs and become more fleshed out?

Get the full Apple bundle for $100 a month. We are headed that way.
But what's in the bundle even? I only see value in Apple Music.

Fitness+ is for a very specific niche of people who want to see a person who appears to talk to them while they throw a skippyball around in front of the living room TV (or at least that's what it's marketed as)
News+ is just a Safari wrapper
Arcade has 2 games worth playing and you can buy them instead for a few bucks
tv+ is just completely dead...

Most subscriber growth they brag about is probably just iCloud because of extremely overpriced 64GB iPads and such

I already pay subscriptions for the following:-
1. Music - AmazonPrime ($18 a year) and Spotify ($18 a Year)
2. TV / Movies - AmazonPrime ($18 a year shared with Music and shopping), Netflix and Disney etc.. (Bundled as free along with my Fiber)
3. Storage - OneDrive 6 TB ($72 a year), Google Drive 100 GB ($14 a Year) and iCloud 50 GB ($11 a Year)

Even my family mobile bills (about 6 numbers) and 500 MBPS Fiber Broadband do not come closer to this much for an additional non essential service AI ($20 a month)! Unless Apple Intelligence can get our professional tasks done without having to put lot of efforts, for personal needs, I do not think the charges may justify! In the professional world, your company may not allow you to use Apple Intelligence in any ways unless you are a freeelancer.
how are you getting Spotify for $18 a year? And Prime?

News+ gets you past paywalled articles doesnt it?
Arcade well depends what type of games you like...
tv+ has quality if not quantity. perhaps needs to buy a back catalogue from someone or rent a rotating catalogue to expand its appeal.

Depends on what it is. They can't just start charging for what is currently implied to be free and claimed to be running on my device. It would have to be more specialized features. Maybe their own equivalent of ChatGPT/Bard/Copilot?

Will pay only if I get complete control over a refurbished T-800. I’m old school if you are wondering why I chose that legacy model.

The point is: if you make the customer pay for AI while competitors offer it for free (and better), it’s a losing game from the start.

Why would you pay for something that Google and Samsung will offer for free? And Google's AI features are likely to perform better

How long will the competition's offerings remain free? Samsung states something about 24 or 36 months free with its smartphones, if I'm not mistaken!

If someone starts with 2.99 to 4.99 per month,
then the rest will follow.
And I'm sure: Google and Samsung would offer something like this in tandem. (Of course they would keep a free light version)

But I think to myself: what's the point?
Apple who have forced the whole subscription madness in their App Store…
Prices from every streaming provider are getting more expensive from year to year.

And now another subscription? No thanks.
I'd rather spend less time on my smartphone and do a digital detox.

Paying for ai is one of the least unintelligent ways to spend your money

Not to mention 6TB OneDrive which doesn't exist unless he's adding up the 6 individual (you can't stack them on one account) 1TB OneDrive's that come with the Family plan. But that's six 1 TB accounts, not one 6TB account.

No, but I don't foresee myself using AI much even if it's free, so I'm not really the target audience for this.

I could see using a smarter Siri as a more helpful digital assistant. But I don't have much interest in chat bots or creative tools, which I'm guessing is what will be the paid aspect. Google's paid AI tier Gemini Advanced offers coding help and allows you to upload documents and spreadsheets for summaries and "insight" (whatever that means). It seems to be aimed at professionals who want it as a tool in their work. I'm hoping then that Apple doesn't put the more "casual" uses of AI behind a paywall.

My only subscription right now is iCloud storage, and I don't intend to change that anytime soon.

This is honestly insane and makes me think Apple execs don't use iCloud mail. It has been 13 years of iCloud Mail and this should have been fixed 13 years ago.
The long sordid tale of .Mac, MobileMe and iCloud. -Infamous firing of project managers, and its technical failings. I'm presuming it would make an interesting book one day. Absolutely baffling. Microsoft has its warts, but Outlook figured it out years ago.

If there's any hint iCloud mail may one day get it though... I take solace with the WatchOS 11 beta I installed yesterday. Read messages on iphone now update the badge on the Apple Watch. Finally.

what? we paid the premium for iphone. why do we need to subscribe to paid AI?
Look up why we need to pay for enough iCloud storage to backup that Premium iPhone we paid through the nose for! Like 5GB is enough for anything these days. It's embarrassing, really.

You have no idea how many people are already paying for AI with other companies, its not a small amount.

Only if Apple Intelligence will sync iCloud Mail notification badges between iOS and macOS.
amen. have used Overcast for a while, opened Apple Podcast up recently just to see things. And for several years, across new and old devices, signed in and signed out, erased and set up as new...

and one device says I have 22,000 unheard podcasts and the other says I have a few dozen. How a sync can be so completely broken I wish I could figure out.

It should be included in Apple One Subcription and separate for a maximum amount of 10$ for one who is not using apple One. The Price of Apple One is already rediculous high. So they should include it to Apple One and not higher the prices.
