No 3D button on maps

I'm using a 4S, and no matter where I navigate to on the map, no 3D button is showing up.

And yes, I am in Satellite mode. Already restarted the phone once.

Conspiracy theory: Apple disabled it in lieu or the *****torm Maps is about to cause.

Anyone got any clues?

I actually found a few quirks using Apple maps today. A few times driving around it would have full bars and 4g service but it lost my positioning for some reason and didn't know where i was. I tried testing it by driving around town to places i knew. It would randomly tell me to turn where there was no way i could turn left or right. At one point the volume on maps went away. I would be aproaching a turn, and i knew i had to turn. The maps would show that i had a turn coming up but no sound. Then out of the blue it would start working again. And it wasn't like i was receiving a call or anything. And at one point my screen timed out. Whenever i used navigon or the actually tom tom app, it would never time out. But my screen just went black at one point. Interestingly i found something out i didnt know. When it timed out, i pressed on the home key to get the screen back on. The maps program was working from the lock screen like the music app. Overall the experience was ok. But it had alot of little quirks and kinks that needs to be worked on.

Sorry for being naive but why ARE some of the locations in black & white?! View attachment 359215

My guess would be when they took the later photos, those areas had cloud cover so it reverted to an older photo.

But then if you search Colchester, that debunks my own theory!

On a positive note I will say that maps has potential. I used it coming home from work and the voice prompts were very good. Also when playing music the voice overlayed on the music. The Siri integration isn't bad. Looking forward to what Apple will do with it.

So appple maps is not as good as google maps:eek: a product that just came out of beta is not blowing away a stable great product.

There is a location on your map which shows a 'Orgasmic Cafe' - is that for real?!!!!! :D

Yes haha! It's just a normal café mind you :p

So WHY replace Google Maps when Apple Maps are absolutely poo?! Let them grow and get better before releasing them.

Poor excuse. They shouldn't have released it until it could compete and they have also had the time to learn from googles mistakes and improve.

Also apple was late to the smartfone market and beat the competition at launch.

I don´t really get why some people are actually defending Apple for this map app... it terrable and like we all know there was a perfectly good app available that they decided against using. I don´t really care what that reason was mind you because there is really no excuse.

They probably will get it fixed in the end but it really seems to have a very long way to go...

This is a post that won't look embarrassing in a year's time.

Hmm kinda worried about this, I live in NZ too, has anyone from here used the new maps? Probably gonna suck. updating to ios6 has already wiped my phone, restoring from backup then will try again

I got rid of a tomtom standalone because the map data was so bad and the routing was crap (this was pre iq routes).

The maps in iOS 6 are just as freaking bad. This is near my house. Notice the railroad tracks.

Image

Those tracks were removed during WW2 for the steel to make tanks.

Here's how it actually looks.

Image

No signs of those tracks. I can't believe this low level of quality is on an idevice!!

Out of interest, what does it look like in Google Maps?

Image

It's not there on google maps and navteq maps (Garmin)

A bit of detective work and I was able to find where you are screen capping. I'm running a 4S on 5.1.1, this is what the maps show for me:

Where is the water way Google says is there?

It's kinda like when Apple switched from PowerPC to Intel in their Macs.

I used Apple Maps yesterday for an approx 200 mile journey (Stevenage to Liverpool) and it got me home in one piece, using a route identical to what my TomTom app said it would use.

Don't understand what people are hating so much about it.

Apple Maps has given Dublin, Ireland an additional airport!!

"Airfield" is very much a residential/suburban area with no airfield or airport within 10km!

This is embarrassing for Apple :(

Missing POIs, incorrectly placed POIs, bad routes.

Something that is also bad, is that Maps only speaks english even though Siri speaks many new languages, main highways in PR only show the #'s not the names, but the small streets have their full name. When I tell Siri to take me to a main highway by name it doesn't know it, but can take me to the small random ones easily. The old version w/ the Google Data showed everything and more. Seriously disappointed w/ the app.

Within a year, Apple Maps should catch up to Google Maps in terms of map data quality.

Why is that? Teleatlas was doing maps since before Google dumped them as a partner and started making their own maps. Is the partnership with Apple somehow going to cause them to step up their game? The purchase of Teleatlas by TomTom doesn't seem to have made a huge difference really. The only way I see this competing with Google maps is if Apple ends the partnership with TomTom and invests in it like Google did.

More problems

Just searched for the phrase "iPhone" near my home in Raleigh, NC.

Using Maps in ios 6, the application brought me to Via Ippone, right outside of Messina ***** ITALY.

Using Google Maps, the same search locates 13 AT&T stores, 2 Apple stores and a few iphone repair locations within 5 miles of my home.

What. Was. Apple. Thinking?

The ****? What did you expect when searching for iphone on a maps app?

I did a side by side comparison with an iphone that wasn't updated to iOS 6 and while the Satellite images seem to be ok for the most part, the standard view is missing a whole bunch of street names in my town.

The map server has been erroring out several times which I can understand due to increased initial access. When I drop a pin at a random location it's unable to give me options all the time. I have to remove and redrop several times before I can get a map routing.

I knew there would be issues and am hoping they get resolved soon. I also miss streetview as it's so convenient to just check your destination surroundings.

I have a feeling I'll be going back to iOS 5.1 until the google maps app is available.

Probably the Same kind of result google maps gave him?? Just like searching for a cafe/restaurant etc. you don't know the name of the place but search by product. It's always worked previously .
