this is the best WWDC ever wow
Yeah, it really did seem like they were pretty much giving us everything we've been wanting and then some. Still feeling somewhat hesitant about the new macOS design but it's probably best to unify things, especially with iPhone and iPad apps running on macOS now. As long as it still has the advanced functionality it will be fine. Still feels weird!

So they're still gonna release intel macs for the next 2 years and macos updates for years to come.

Think you guys can stop worrying.

Tim literally said the whole transition is expected to take 2 years.

Intel macOS updates for "years to come" could mean 2 years.

ARM looks pretty disappointing as predicted. MacOS is getting more dumbed down. Toyish apps incoming. Have to be able to run windows virtually or its pretty doa. Whatever the case, this won't be worth looking into for 3-4 years at least.

Ah, Apple Developer Transition kit now came in smaller package compared with gigantic G5 enclosure back then. Well this make sense, easier shipping, more compact handling, not taking space, and still able fooling bypasser (one of the actual reason G5 enclosure is used)

"We still have Intel-based Macs in the pipeline"....

Tim only flippantly said this once, whereas Steve Jobs emphasized this about PowerPC-based Macs 2–3 times back in 2005 during the Intel transition announcement. However, the only worthy PowerPC-based Mac that came out after the 2005 keynote was a new PowerMac G5 (there may have been some other minor upgrades to other products but nothing worth skipping the wait for). The MacBook Pro had gone Intel by January 2006, and it was a much faster transition after that point.

This is my worry

Why ... Virtualization in the same space. less time restarting and using Option Key to Boot into separate partition, less restrictions for files to be shared between OS' all boost production time something I'm sure the Apple team found absolutely critical during the Covid-19 time frame.

Man ... Apple has really innovated.

Now I'm VERY curious about the hardware designs into 2021. I think I'll be ok on hardware, maybe upgrade to another 13" MBP Intel used (2018) for a few months before going all out on Apple Silicon.

Anyone else suspicious their “secret lab” is in Europe? 😂

Looks amazing, but need to see what devs do and how Apple support games. The fact apps will work across iOS and MacOS could be an incentive.

yap, munich

hope my mb air holds out for this! :)

It will. I'm still on my 13" mid-2011 MBA, on Sierra. If 2 years is normally when people considering to upgrade, I've definitely got my money's worth out of a 7 year old MBA!

BL.

This was a huge and very important keynote but I’m calling it already....people on these forums and social media Will spend all their time complaining about macOS UI redesign.

Because no one in their right mind spends thousands of dollars just to have the chance to be uncertain about a product's long-term functionality?

Why would anyone buying a computer from the most valuable company in the world, and that has a history of supporting hardware longer than anyone else in the industry, be concerned about its long term functionality?
