THEN...DON'T...BUY...ONE! It's that simple. Get something that suits you better. I'm so tired of people acting like they are being forced to buy this.

Its forum . We exchange opinions. I think you are overreacting. he had a point, these are flaws which can determine Apples future on that market. I wonder what the reviews gonna be. But for now I give iPhone 6 out of 10

IM on iPhone

how can the iPhone be a revolutionary internet communications device and not even offer IM? I have been so incredibly excited for this phone since it was first announced but now that it probably wont have IM and/or GPS type navigation capabilities, im not sure it's worth the investment. A very sad day...

I can understand the lack of GPS as a disappointment, but I continue to wonder about the IM concerns. If you have something quick to say, why not call the person? Also, when the iPhone takes over the world, everyone will have "push" email accounts, which will serve to get text to someone just as quickly as an IM.

I'm sorry if I don't feel pity for comments like this. If you lost $12K on Apple today as you suggest, at a loss of $4 per share you own around 3000 shares. Assuming you bought at least one year ago when the cost was around $60/share or less, you've gained at least $180,000 since then...even after today's dip.

thanks for the perspective! I wish I had 360,000 f'n dollars worth of apple stock.

Things that make me vomit:
-AJAX
-People that GRIPE about stock prices. Not because they've actually lost money, but because they're braggarts.

What a c**t.

Please go read "Stock Market for Dummies" and let me know when you reach the chapter on "Options".

with this web based software/applications, does this mean that we will see office apps coming from google for the iPhone? google docs and spreadsheets? because they are good programs and im sure would work nicely as a free software package to the iPhone.

Yes, but this is not new. We know that Safari will be on that phone. The only thing that was announced today is that they are going to make this the standard way of developing iPhone apps. Meaning that they will concentrate on integration (e.g. a call://1234345 URL in your webpage can be used to dial and stuff like that). Wasted resources that should have gone/go into a proper SDK.

WWDC=Worldwide Developers Conference

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't WWDC stand for Worldwide Developers Conference?

The reason I ask this is because people here for some reason are surprised that Apple did not launch/announce new products today.

They did however allow important development partners (EA and id) an opportunity to state publically that they're going to develop for the Mac. We also heard more about the future platforms (Mac OS 10.5 and the iPhone) that developers will be developing for.

I don't know but isn't that what WWDC is supposed to be about...development.

Am I just old?

I'm glad the phone won't go on sale until 6pm - I think I could handle sitting outside all day on a friday waiting for the thing, but there is no way I'm missing a good night's sleep.

I think this release is consuming a lot of time in cupertino. If they are trying to get millions (or even a million) of units ready for launch day they really have not had much time to do it in. They have to distribute to 2000 stores, they need to be monitoring the quality at the factory. Luckily their pockets are deep right now.

By virtue of combining a Nano, with a Phone they probably have plenty of people willing to cough up some cash. Offer them a usable web-browser (even if it's a bit slow) and the larger screen... that gets many of us up to the price point.

I did note the remark about the guy having trouble with the touch-screen keyboard. I feel like I'm in a cult or something, because in the end, I still think this device can't be compared to existing devices. The supposed functionality on so many 'smart' phones is so unfriendly. To me - the biggest weakness is the keyboard - what good is im software if you can't use the keyboard (hopefully it can pair with an :apple: wireless keyboard?)

all he had to do is anounce the new iMac's and the stock would have skyrocketed!

What are you smoking.

I have been following Apple Stock for a while and I don't recall in recent years an announcement of a iMac causing Apple's stock to skyrocket!

For the past couple of years the only things which have caused Apple's stock to rise are: Quarterly Results, iPods and iPhone related information. And even still the stock normally drops a little and then goes up.

I personally feel that Apple will hit $130.00 this week. The key driving force being the announcement of the iPhone supporting Web 2.0 and AJAX and of course the approaching release of the iPhone itself.

-Whatever

Web 2.0 + AJAX apps???? Steve, I ***** hate you, I'm down $12k today because the market is obviously very unimpressed with this half-assed (nay, quarter-assed) third-party development option.

Seems like if you're down $12K today you have 3,000 shares, which would have increased in value from about $24K to $360K on Steve Jobs' watch since '02. Can you explain to me again why you "***** hate" him?

Nice language too. Need to wash your mouth out with Simple Object Access Protocol.

I was gonna buy a Macbook Pro this week...but I may reconsider, as I'd hate to be lynched by picketing fans that are undoubtedly encroaching upon the glass Fifth Avenue cube, with sharpened sticks and salad forks in hand, salivating with power ties wrapped around their heads.

True, but Mac World '07 lacked one thing: Macs.

I was kinda hoping that WWDC would contain all the things that Apple didn't do at Mac World because of the iPhone.

Braceing myself for bad news...

With 18 days left to launch of the iPhone, why not give out info on the data plans? Unless it is as ugly as this WWDC keynote...

Thanks for being a Mac Developer! Hope you weren't planning on using your codebase to Develop for the iPhone (which has taken the oxygen away from developing or promoting much of anything else this year). By the way, have you gotten those apps updated for Intel and Leopard yet? Who Loves Ya, Baby!

hahaha, thanks for the laugh!

Everything I've heard points at $40/mo for unlimited data as the iPhone plan.

That's what I currently pay for tethered service, so its not a shock to me.

If it is a shock for you, then start getting used to the idea now...

Even if I'm the only one... I'm exceptionally thrilled and delighted with this keynote. I'm still waiting for the video to go up. I'm left still trying to understand if Web 2.0 standard apps can be launched locally and access the file system, or if they MUST instead be hosted. If this uses the widget engine and enables access to assorted resources, it would be perfectly fine with me. No memory leaks, no zombies, no extreme malware. Good stuff. This keynote was awesome, and I think it is another milestone for Apple.

He bought options rather than outright shares. It's too risky of a move for me. Whenever Apple has an announcement, the stock either goes up or down. And since they're so tightlipped, there's really no way of knowing. So the smart thing to do, if you've got the cash, is to hold Aapl. If it goes up, great. But if it goes down, use it as a buying opportunity(to buy even more shares) because it'll eventually correct itself. The rewards are smaller, but it's a lot safer. That being said, if the stock went the other way today, DTphonehome would have raked it in.

I feel the pain too, although not that much.

Can you pre-order and iPhone? (sorry if this has been asked)

Personally I'm very pleased with the keynote - no new MBP better than the one I bought last week... :D

AJAX and web 2.0 development is disappointing, but it is a start.

Would a small torrent program be possible, so that you could download when a wireless network was available, or is this asking to much of the assets available to developers?

I've noticed a gorwing trend of business specific applications to be web-based rather than discrete executables. Apple showed this today with the address book, but I know of far more powerful implementations, with a number of government systems (social security, healthcare) transitioning to browser based systems.

This may be seen as a easy 'in' to the corperate smartphone market, expecially if large scale business deals are being offered. The desire for native apps is probably wanted more by those developing for the entertainment/commodity side of the iPhone market.

Apple is up to something.....

Personally I think Steve has something in his back pocket, and will be unleashed within the next three weeks.

I too took a stock hit. I bought 80k (roughly 11425 shares) worth of Apple stock when it was at about 7 bucks way back in 2001 after my business went under. I did that because I knew the iPod was a winner, and my accountant and broker told me to. I was happy when it hit 10! Now post split my 22850 shares x 125 = $2,856,250.00 give or take a few bucks.

DAMN THIS KEYNOTE!

OPEN $2,856,250.00
Close $2,742,000.00

$114,250.00 in losses today! Poor me. LOL

That is pure sarcasm.
Steve! Thanks for making me a multi-millionaire on an $80k investment.
