I looked at the schedule for that day, and first they have the keynote, and then a break, and then they have "OS X State of the Union". This to me says that the keynote won't be so much about OS X, because they have a whole other section blocked out for just that. Maybe I'm off on this, but it seams like one more thing pointing in the direction of the 970 release...

The state of the onion is *very* techy, at least if last year is an example.

But the fact that the Steve keynote weights in at a whopping two hours, can only mean something big is being announced :)

Just got off the phone with a couple of stores around NY/NJ. YES, there are in-store broadcasts, but not at every store.

SoHo: Of course.
Tice's Corner: Yes.
Short Hills: No -- they're a theater store, but they don't have a satellite.
Menlo Park: No -- they're not a theater store.

Glad I have the day off . . . 50-mile drive or not, I'll be at Tice's! :D

i assume you weren't told to make a reservation or anything, right? (just asking because someone mentioned something about that in the dallas store....). i hope to hit up the soho store. i'm sure it will be packed.

From an emotional point of view, I hope immediately. But from a practical point of view, I think any time before the bulk of next year's school purchases are made would be good.

Then I would like to see Apple push hard for educational purchases, especially for college students. With X windows standard in Panther, a 64-bit hardware and OS, good development tools, all the Unix (and X windows), Mac, and Java programs running natively, and two Windows/PC emulation packages available, I think Apple can make a strong case that their system is the right solution to get new students through college.

Grumble, grumble. I was in an Apple store in California, and they did not have a theater either. I asked them how they demonstrated software, and the sales person said they just did it on a regular PowerMac.

You can effectively show about 2 people on a regular screen. All Apple stores should include at least a portable screen and a good projector to demo software, show movies customers have made, run Apple TV ads, show Apple broadcast events, etc.

Apple store managers without theaters and satellite systems, you have about a week to make this happen. Get cracking. ;)

Not a bad idea... But I couldn't find Steve's e-mail on the site. :( However, I did find a whole list of other people at the "Press Contacts" section... It never hurts to ask I guess.

Remember when he first re-joined and everybody got pissed at him about the clone killing thing...and he wrote some kind of public response to that, and this was the address given.

Biltmore Phoenix AZ store

The Biltmore Phoenix AZ store says that they will have a live broadcast.

Anyone in Phoenix want to meet me there?

I've only been to the Chandler store once. I went there when the LCD imacs were first released and the Biltmore store didn't have any in stock yet.

Care to meet me at the Biltmore?

They said the broadcast starts at 10:00 am and that it will be relatively "low key" because Apple isn't hyping it very much. Maybe that means the lines wont extend all the way around the Mall like they did with the release of Jaguar.

Chandler Fashion Center in AZ
Yes... then she told me when it was.
Wonder how many calls about this they have gotten. She did not even have to ask or anything

does anyone know if the roosevelt field apple store will be showing WWDC i'd definitely brave the LIE to see it

I love the Roosevelt Field Apple Store-I go there a lot. :) But I am afraid that it doesn't have a theater, and therefore will not be broadcasting it. Looks like I'll just have to stick it out in the MacRumors IRC Channel. :D

ichat/webcams

I can see Steve demonstrating the new ichat/video conferencing with webcams in all the stores and he connects to them via ichat in WWDC. He connects to the Apple Store in Boston or something like that. Just a thought

A philosophical approach

Hey all. I've been following Mac rumors sites for several years now and enjoying the ride, but I have to admit that I'm a little puzzled at how willingly so many of us hype ourselves up. I've witnessed this cycle so many times. Apple has some cool new goodies to show off, and the rumor site regulars start gearing up for the Be-All-End-All Macintosh. Then, when Apple unveils lots of cool new goodies, the tone in these forums (and elsewhere) turns sour. Despite the fact that Apple did some great stuff, everyone is annoyed, disappointed and unimpressed--and for no reason. I have almost never been unimpressed with Apple's presentations, but then I keep most rumors at arm's-length. When something does pan out... wonderful! When it doesn't... cool anyway. I think some of you who hype these things up to the level of betting your own personal happiness and satisfaction on it really need to take a deep breath and put it all in perspective. Will you really be let down if all Apple does is an in-depth presentation of Panther??? C'mon! That will be amazing all on its own.

Will the press be at the keynote?

Good enough! It sounded like something Apple might have emailed officially about.

Sounds like some stores are confirming this on the phone too.

Yes, I'm fully expecting the "sour wave," but I doubt I'll be joining it!

Next question: I wonder if the press is invited to the keynote? That would seem to be an important piece. Or is that event always open to the press?

new products?

i picked up an iTrip at the NorthShore Mall Apple Store just a little while ago, and i asked if the wwdc was going to be broadcast there... this is the low down at the register:

me: "Is there going to be a broadcas..."

store: "yes, the wwdc will be shown here in the store. we are really excited about it."

me: "where are you going to put the new merchandise? hehe."

store: <looking side to side> "Hehehe." <head nod for me to leave the guy alone>

=============
there is def. something going on... and if it was just current hardware ramping, i don't think they would need NEW space in the store to display it, would they? this must be NEW hardware... a new product offering (while still offering the current lineup.)

man, i'm pretty excited :)

I completely agree. I still run an iMac 400, with 10.2. It's far, far, far slower than the sort of PC I could get for even just $300, and when I replace it, I could get an iMac at about 1ghz (pro machines are out of my price range) or a PC at about 3ghz, with a bigger monitor, more memory, bigger hard disk, better graphics card. I'll be getting the Mac, though. Why? OS X. That's all that keeps me using Apple now.

Actually, the one thing that is getting me to switch, and lay out the money for all new software, is the OS, and the attitude of apple. I'm vary weary of windows and microsoft, and do not feel that they have any interest in pleasing people, unless it gives them good PR. I run a simple firewall app on my machine, and get strange connection requests all the time from my machine, like "Do you want to RunnDLL as an app to access the interenet" - when I'm doing nothing on the computer.
I do not like their ability to snoop into my machine in order to please their buisness partners. (i.e. RIAA, BSA(the buisness software alliance, not the boy scouts of america),etc... I'd rather feel like I OWN my machine and not some corporation. Pretty soon, with palladium, you will not even have root access to your own machine. (Ok a littel exagerrated, but hey, you get my point).
I've tried linux, but it is just not ready, and has none of the major programs I need to use.
So, I'm splashing into OSX with this upcoming round of hardware releases (The powerbook actually).

GAH! I meant to say a basic "Yes, I agree" but ended up writing a novel...
