X is in stock at Apple Store.

How long will they hold a phone for pickup? If I order one and want to pick up at a store, will I be able to choose any time as long as the store is open?
 
Apple Stores are in a sense Apple’s internal customers, and each compete with one another and other third party sellers for business. For Apple it doesn’t matter where people buy their iPhones, but for Apple stores and other retailers they expect inventory because it impacts their bottom line. Collectively they are successful, individually each must perform to expectations or better. Although Apple online works in unison with Apple stores, it is its own store with its own set of rules. We are so accustom to preordering/ordering online that we forget stores are competing for our business as well, and understandably they will be just as upset if they don’t get their iPhones like we expect to get ours. Apple will distribute accordingly, we just need to hustle a little bit to find it.

I don’t understand people like you. You are essentially saying under Jobs, Apple managed supply and demand poorly but you loved it. Now, Cook is over-delivering and getting the phone in the hands of consumers sooner than later and everything is wrong in this world?

Just my luck, they’re in stock everywhere EXCEPT Pittsburgh and Cleveland
 
Glad you made your choice. The keyboard is definitely narrower than what's on Plus iPhones.
 
I was at king of prussia, PA mall today and they said they were sold out of all the iPhone X versions since 10am yesterday.

Simply checking store stock using app doesn’t require you to enter account info. Here’s how:

Select iPhone X > Select your carrier > Select your finish (silver or space gray) > Instead of selecting your capacity, tap on link “See availability on other stores” for either 64gb or 256gb. This brings up all the Apple stores near you and which one has the phone available to reserve/pickup . The best time to check stock is at 6 AM local time—that’s when Apple updates stock info for that day.

Yup....My Pre Order is stuck on Nov 17th-24th, didnt want to wait that long....Wake up this morning (9am) and check for store pick up (t-mobile version) which is hard to find here in So Cali....I got lucky i found one in stock and place an order right away. The lady at the store even told me that the t mobile's ones are hard to come by now. Came home and cancel my Online order.

The preordering did is wrong....we have been waiting to get bumped but no news. I’m glad that you got one.

Hey you are in good company. Seems that the lack of stock is not so bad. Apple told me the stores inventory will update around 5-6am every morning. They will have more to sell in the morning.

Update: Stock just dropped on the East Coast. Snagged a 256 GB Space Gray for the spouse. Whew!

I felt guilty enjoying mine while he was in the 17-24 window.

Go! Buy!

They’re predicting it based on past performance with no guarantee of future demand/performance.

This was me every year including last year. Never had a problem getting the phone I wanted (last year was matte black 7+ 128 on Verizon).

This year I preordered because I don’t work downtown anymore so I just can’t swing by as I used to.
