This was me every year including last year. Never had a problem getting the phone I wanted (last year was matte black 7+ 128 on Verizon).

This year I preordered because I don’t work downtown anymore so I just can’t swing by as I used to.
Same here; however, after preorder gave me a headache, I don't think I want to deal with that anymore....i'll just do old fashion way.

Reserved mine this morning. In and out in 20 minutes. Guy behind me was standing in line 2 hours early for his reservation  Lots of international tourists buying iPhone X's at the Santa Monica Apple Store.

You mean "Dreamers"

Preorder is usually crazy, though.

Most people shoot for launch, then take whatever they can get for preorder if it’s after launch, and start scouting stores on launch day to see if they can snag one a bit faster.

So the iPhone I have reserved that is coming to me in two weeks… Why does it need to be canceled before I try to reserve one at a local store tomorrow?

I paid full price for the phone, it’s not part of an installment plan, certainly there are no discounts.

Does Apple have some rule that says you can’t pre-order online and reserve one at the store at the same time?

Who said you need to cancel before placing a new order? My pre order is supposed to be here between 17-24th. Place another this morning online for store pickup (both pay in full) Return home with the store pickup and couple hours later cancel my pre order.

I keep reading in multiple threads about AT&T customers who need to cancel the phone they pre-ordered in order to be able to reserve one at an Apple store.

Perhaps they are in some program that gives them a new phone every year or something? I have a three-year-old iPhone 6, it’s well out of contract. Any thoughts here?

If your paying full price there’s no need to cancel. Only reason to cancel is for those like myself who were on an installment plan. You can only have one installment plan.

Just snagged a 64GB SG. IUP reservations came up around 25 seconds past 06:00. Apparently they do have stock on a Sunday! :)

Edit: just checked the page again at 06:04 out of curiosity, and it’s already back to “please check back after 06:00”.

I’m in what is called AT&T Next Every Year. It is a 24 month payment plan with the option to upgrade my device after 12 payments, and either pay off the balance or trade in my old device. A lot of us had delivery dates of 11/17-11/24 and as launch day approached there was no movement, so we went to our local Apple store to purchase one rather than wait 2-3 weeks.

Sunday morning?

Just checked at 5:20 and no X stock.

Glad you made your choice. The keyboard is definitely narrower than what's on Plus iPhones.

But tolerable. So far so good!

When I tried to order for pickup, I would get a message saying I already had one on order so I had to cancel. Do not cancel until you know they have stock. Took about two minutes before I got the email confirmation that the order was canceled.

I’m done trying to buy one at 3:01 am local time. I got one easily on Saturday with the method I alwasy use.
I’ll probably still try to grab a preorder next year, and use the daily stock as a fallback. However, preorders start at a much more reasonable 8am over here......if they started at 3am...I don’t think I’d bother. :)

I hear you. I don’t get up to pre order. I value my sleep. But since I work midnights a lot of I’m working I’ll order them lol. Works for me that way.

I’d say about 20 people slept in the shopping centre overnight to get the X on launch morning at my local Apple Store. They still had stock at midday lol.

If the supply shortages were exaggerated then I don’t know why people are so surprised there is stock available. It’s not like the demand is on the same scale as the iPhone 4 or 6. This phone is more niche due to its higher price.

Actually...I’m in the same boat. If I was up (I’m on call 24hrs) then I’d order...otherwise...I also value my sleep. :)

It just keeps reading you cannot make a reservation at this time. Apple store link for reservations from another thread, maybe I have the wrong link?

I had to cancel my Nov 17-24 pre-order, wait 5m for my phone to be eligible again, then re-order for in-store pickup.
So stupid... If I didn't just happen to check the store today, I'd be waiting 3 more weeks. Plus I got up at 3am for the pre-order....

Seems like pre-ordering is just stupid and Apple apparently doesn't know too much about their stock.
