Such a huge leap in tech and ability than the PS4 Pro and they priced it perfectly imo

I wish they would have really somehow distinguished it from the over saturated market of consoles though with a distinguishing name or mark.

XBox4K?

Scorpio would have been nice.

If you didn't see it, I saw the debut for Life is Strange: Before the Storm. (Prequel). I think the first one offered enough potential where I would consider it after intitial reviews. It looks like the end of August for the release.

I did and can't wait to be sucked into that world again.

Forza 7 would've been a very compelling reason for me to pick one up day one, but since it's also available for Windows, I can hold off for a while.

Who am I kidding, I'll have one in the first week :D

It's a day one purchase for me. Not because necessarily I just 'Want' it. Because it will offer some exclusive games and content that will differ with my PS4 Pro. I like having opposing advantages to both consoles and having a 4K/HDR TV is going to pair well with the new Xbox. $500.00 isn't unreasonable to me, considering the Specifications and future games, I have no reason to not purchase this.

Should be apparent by now that MS does not want a simple numbered scheme for their sequels, and I actually think XBox One X is quite cool (XBOX), but yeah I can imagine when I step into store to buy one an One S will be brought out lol.

Hadn't thought of that, your second point, but definitely possible that MS did not want to sound less than a PS3.

A confused customer is usually the best customer as far as large corporations go, such as phone carriers with their convoluted pricing scheme. But for a game console, I agree the name must be simple and easily differentiated. The Wii U name definitely caused Nintendo dearly.

MS really need a lesson in naming their products.

X-Box:
Fair enough, catchy name, it works. Good job there.

X-Box 360:
What, did I miss 358 consoles since the original X-Box? Strange choice. I guess "X-Box 2" would have sounded inadequate next to "Playstation 3", so they needed to go a different route?

X-Box One:
Oh boy. I get it, Microsoft wanted to spread the "One" moniker among their products and services. "OneDrive", "OneNote", etc. But I have a feeling gamers care a lot less about this "unity" than Microsoft execs do. And where can we go with the next generation? What comes after "360" and "One"?

X-Box One S:
Hmm. "S" stands for "Slim", I guess. But why the extra letter? It's just a new X-Box One? Not a terrible decision, but not very necessary to give each hardware revision a new name, I would say.

X-Box One X:
Aaahhhh.... Just one letter difference to the "S", and the letters sound phonetically very similar! I see a lot of potential for confusion, parents buying the wrong thing. Remember how many people had problems figuring out that the WiiU is something completely different from the Wii?

Just for comparison:
- Playstation
- Playstation 2
- Playstation 3
- Playstation 4
- Playstation 4 Pro

No matter which side of the "console war" you're on, you have to admit that Sony's naming scheme is just a little bit easier to decipher! ;)
[doublepost=1497251408][/doublepost]All that aside, it looks like a powerful console, and a more "meaningful" upgrade than the PS4 Pro was. Owning a PS4, I have not felt compelled to get a Pro yet. If I had a One, the "X" would be more tempting to me. Curious to see how the pricing strategy will work out for them.

$500 is just a little too high for me. Maybe if I already had a 4K TV... I don't think it's over priced, just that I'm cheap. :D

I'm interested to see how Sony responds.

I agree to a point, except that you don't appreciate that Microsoft has taken a page from Sony's playbook: they've built a console dedicated to native 4K gaming that can also function as a UHD player, much like the PS2 did with DVDs. UHD players start in the low $200s. The high-end players, like my Oppo UDP-203, are a bit more than the X1X. If the console can function as a quality player, or better yet if it manages to come with Dolby Vision support, then it'll be pulling double duty for the two most expensive activities, hardware-wise, that come with owning 4K telly. I haven't resolved to purchase one but as a member Microsoft's target audience, a gamer that is heavily invested in 4K, they very much have my attention.

But the jury is still out on 4K discs, as studios want to go to a download/streaming pay-per-view/subscription model over making and owning physical media.

I see online that people are saying how reasonable the price is compared to just a 4K/60 capable pc video card. But keep in mind that these cards will be much lower in price come November.

I guess also that this is really the first "middle upgrade" to current gen consoles. The PS4 Pro and XBO-X will appeal only to hard-core gamers. I can still play the games released on the original consoles only with not as nice visuals.

I don't think Sony has to answer at all - especially with the $500 price tag. They can keep the PS4 Pro at $400, even after the launch of XBO-X. They can also keep the new 1TB PS4 at $300...

Raw graphics power seems quite similar to a $250 RX 580, which you cannot buy right now.

I'm hearing more a 1080 since you need to run a stable 4K/60, in High(?)

(that is my question - what do these XBO-X games run at?)
I am talking about the hardware.

But now you have Vulkan and DX12, so PCs will be able to approach consoles in efficiency.

Studios don't have any say in the matter, they're not shouldering the last mile costs for delivery of digital streaming. There's a reason that ISPs were throttling Netflix prior to the establishment of net neutrality statutes: Netflix was taking advantage of AYCE broadband to offload infrastructure costs onto the ISPs to keep their subscription price attractive. In reality, there's no such thing as AYCE service, it just relies on load balancing and throttling during peak periods to keep the network up. True abandonment of physical media, and whilst net neutrality is still in force, would be disastrous, especially as 4K content matures. There simply isn't the infrastructure in place to deal with that sustained load and network ownership consolidation, respresenting a functional monopoly no different than any other utility (the idea that ISPs represent such a utility monopoly formed the backbone of foisting net neutrality on them in the first place), essentially means that ISPs have literally no economic reason to foster the streaming paradigm at their own cost. They're the only game in town for access so it's not as though someone can just go elsewhere for better access to content. Indeed, the relative cheapness of internet access has, for more than a decade, been subsidised by bundling with cable packages, in that the lucrative content licensing involved offset infrastructure development costs. But, with the rise of digital streaming through web services and the move from traditional channel-based entertainment to on-demand content clearinghouses like Netfiix, cable-cutting is rampant. The ISPs are losing that quiet subsidy so they're caught between shrinking margins and rising infrastructure cost. VOD, which charges at point of sale and thus is consumption-only, cannot cover the shortfall in revenue from the decline in cable subscriptions; unlike a VOD movie which you purchase for a specific price and only for that content, you're paying monthly for cable content whether you ever watch a particular channel or not.

My birthday is November 13th and since the only two consoles in my house are a Wii and a PS2, it seems past time to upgrade.

Funny, my 11 year old son only cares if it plays Minecraft.

X-Box One Elite would have been a better name.

They already had one:

When they said it was the smallest Xbox ever - I thought they were comparing it to the original Xbox size.

Then they showed that it is actually smaller than the S model.

That's pretty amazing since the chips used inside are pretty powerful...

I've got a One S on my basement TV. This is going to be a purchase for my living room today. Very impressed with the specs and them starting to get original Xbox games going on the platform is icing on the cake.

Was at the MS Store today.

They have an Xbox One X unit on display.

It is a non-working prototype. So it is the actual weight and all the ports are on it.

Pretty cool. It is smaller than an Xbox One S. Very dense. You are paying to cram such advanced tech into such a small box.

Great design. The air flows in from into the sides and out the back. The top is solid an you can place items on top without blocking airflow. I like to put skins on my gadgets so a skin on top going down to the front would look pretty cool...

Totally want now. Will have to wait until a price drop to $399 (and a free game?)... ;)

That's awesome that Microsoft put out a demo of what it will resemble come November and you got to see one already.

I commend Microsoft for the engineering they put into this console and what it will boast, being how small it is . One of the coolest features I think the Xbox one X boasts, is it actually vapor cooled versus fan cooled. Which is typically only for high end processing cards or large servers.

I'm still waiting for the pre-order release date and when that will be, which I will likely try to do on day one when pre-orders start. After speaking with GameStop, they speculate that the Xbox one X will sell out for pre-orders on day one and push past December to even receive one, likely due to the Holiday demand.

I did pick up an Xbox One S at Gamestop - killer trade in deals this weekend.

Minecraft Bundle was $249 w/ a $50 gift card. I traded in my struggling iPad 2 and got an extra $50 above the $50 trade in which came to $100. Traded in an old XB 360 I had laying around in my collection and got an extra 20 for that ($35 - I had purchased it two ago for $40 used).

It came to $121 after taxes for the system and the $50 gift card (so $71).

I was gonna get an Xbox One controller for my PC on sale for $50 anyways, so for an extra $21, I got a console too... :)

I set it up last night - seems like I can just log into it and have it upstairs and access my account and games.

The unit is very dense - it does run cool and quiet.

A great deal. I have a "backup" to my original console and will tie me over until the Xbox One X goes down in price (probably at the PS5 launch... ;) ).

Gonna hook it up to my main system to see if I can tell any difference in 4K BR movies (I've been buying them already, some come with the 3D BR) - doubtful with my old projector...

Scorpio was such a great name....

I agree. However, the Scorpio engine is what they are referring to if you Watch the E3 conference, but the unannounced Xbox went by 'Project Scorpio' . But Microsoft was clever with how they added the "X" to the XBox One X title.

Reserved my Project Scorpio limited edition one yesterday from BB as I had certificates and 12 months no interest.

That will give me 3 XBs in the house. I have a problem :)

I can't really tell from the pictures or videos. Is the Scorpio edition console black or green? I kept reading that it's in Xbox green. If it is actually green I'll just go with the regular edition.
