Wow some people on here really got rattled lol
But the truth is Xiaomi has been a player in Asia a long time and for a reason. I once got a 150$ Xiaomi that went blow for blow with that year's 900$ iPhone.
And now they've done iPhone X at half price....

I am not sure anyone on here actually cares that this occurs, more so just surprised at how blatant the copying is. When it comes to iOS users, copying the design doesn't make a ton of difference. We value different things.

Lets not pretend that apple couldn't sell the iphone X for $800-850 though and still make huge profits even accounting for R&D. When you sell as many phones as apple does, R&D ends up being an absolute miniscule cost of the phone.

Having said that I don't blame them for selling it at $1000 if people will still buy it at that price

Of course they could sell it for less. The right price is key to the perception of a premium or luxury product. Apple markets their products as the best. The best always costs more than “lesser” alternatives and is rarely discounted. However, you need to have a great reputation and excellent brand recognition to pull this off.

What’s the point of having a notch if it’s goingbtonhave that massive chin

It’s pathetic how little creativity and ingenuity many of these Chinese companies have.

Americans have always seemed to lead the way in this regard.

Apple has been itching to sue them for years for their blatant cloning of their hardware. Meanwhile, Xiaomi has been sniggering from across the ocean and rolling in dough.

Part of the Apple brand and image is iOS. I was just in both China Japan and yes, I think everyone is ultimately the same when it comes to brands.

People also overestimate how "different" people are. In the end, people want to be loved, have fun, and associate with nice things.

Are you Chinese or have you traveled to China often? I've been to Asia many times and I really don't see much difference. Japanese people are about as "different" as I've seen (and that's in a good way, btw), and they freaking love the iPhone. Chinese are more like Americans, to be honest. They love money, brands, and spending money. My best friend was born in China and didn't move here until college, so we discuss these things a lot, plus my experience in China.

Japanese like quality, which is a reason Apple is so popular in Japan.

Yes to both questions. I hear more of "I love Apple over Android", instead of "I love iOS over Android".

Japanese have a lot of pride in their products, albeit sometimes too much pride for their own good.

Going OT here, but ...

Asians in general get much of their American mannerisms from Hollywood. What you see at the surface level may not be what they are thinking. When you translate the language, it comes off very verbose and the slangs do not get interpreted correctly at times. I wouldn't generalize Chinese are more like Americans. I would generalize that Chinese in major metropolitan areas are a little like Americans due to their exposure to Americans in those areas. There are plenty of wealthy Chinese that do not reside in Shanghai, Hong Kong, or Beijing.

I guess I am not THAT surprised, as you are right, it's been going on for years - I'd just imagine any company trying to establish themselves as a reputable brand would eventually bring something original to the table. I am clearly wrong about that.

They copied FaceID, the notch, the freaking marketing, the camera placement, the colors, the silver around the camera, the wallpaper, the status bar notifications, etc.

It's a total JOKE and I hope they get sued.

Any Chinese in the market for an iPhone will buy the real thing. Apple is killing it in China at the moment. It's an aspirational brand and Chinese with money don't want a copy.
The notch, you mean, the notch that everybody else has?
The marketing? You mean the right way to do marketing in 2018? Would you like them to do ****** marketing, just do differentiate from Apple? "****ing buy our phone. It's good." marketing maybe?
The wallpaper, omg, what? It's just a wallpaper, it doesn't even look like the iPhone X wallpaper and I believe it's been in MIUI for some time (or a similar one).
The status bar notifications? You DO realize that Android's had them from the beginning, right?

Thats just wrong - vote with your wallet people...

I did!
Got a Xiaomi.
It's good.

So you don't think this is a copy of the iPhone X? You can say that seriously? Lol...

apple sue them plz and its not full screen look at the bottom what a dumb company that has to copy
[doublepost=1527765664][/doublepost]
yea the bottom has huge bezel

They aren’t officially in the U.S. smartphone market yet, so they can’t sue them here, and good luck suing a Chinese company in China...

Yea I don't get it. People act like the way Apple does things or the way this phone looks was basically inevitable. Kinda wild.

Their privacy policy is pretty crazy to me. I am not sure how people can just say OK to this and be happy with the product just because it's cheap. You are paying them with your data.

Its funny how every android fanboy hates the notch on iphone x yet it seems like every new android phone announced is copying the design for their new models.

TBH it does bother me a lot to buy a $1000 phone just to have everyone have the same design for half the Price. Shame on all these ****** copycaters.

When you don't have to spend a dollar on r&d you can afford these things....

I don't think we can go beyond blaming Xiaomi for copying certain form factors like Notch, Vertical Dual Camera, notification.... Honestly they probably don't worth $600 R&D expense for each mobile, IMO.

Xiaomi also has a copy of the Samsung Note called... the Xiaomi Note.

This is just the way it's done in that part of the world. Companies make less expensive versions of popular items.

People who can afford the real deal, get the real one. Those who cannot, get something much less costly but looks and acts similarly. This reinforces the higher priced device's fashion choices. Everyone wins.

It's neither good nor bad. It's just different. And it often helps spread new technology quicker than in some other parts of the world.
