iPhone XS Max XS max vs note 9

I know this will probably end in a war

That comment began this dumpster fire of a thread. And indeed, here we are, 374 comments later, embroiled in a slowly escalating battle of juvenile barbs and insults. Clearly, neither side is going to convince the other. Absolutely nothing will be accomplished here. Perhaps the rest of us (myself included) should back away from the train wreck and let it fizzle out on its own. And/or the principle parties can take the great debate to PMs.

tl;dr - can we please stop staring at this 10-car pile-up? I, for one, am out.

X Max >>>> Note 9 and the spyware infested android. Flagship device that’s not even running the latest OS. Lol.
To be fair, Samsung experience has way more features than stock android. I remember going from marshmallow to nougat and thinking “this is it?” Samsung experience has a lot more to offer than stock android in terms of features. Every version of android claims to have much better battery life and smoother experience, but to say a note 9 on Oreo is really missing out on much due to not having P is not entirely true.

I know Samsung provide a backup service. I used it when it first launched with the S7 edge and it seemed to be ok. However when I had the S9 plus a few months ago it wouldn’t back up. It said I had run out of space. It had one 4.7 GB back up of my old note 8 on there, nothing else was showing. I was supposed to get 15GB of space for free. I tried to delete the old note 8 backup and I couldn’t. Then I tried to purchase more storage and it was greyed out.

Alternatively, you can just use SmartSwitch to backup to sdcard.

Google is your friend.....

That isn’t a sale. I can’t go buy one for half off instead. They force you to buy one at full price and you have to add a new line to get the second one free locked into a 2 year agreement and if you get out you have to pay the full price of the phone.

That’s not a sale like Samsung had with $200-300 off on their phones right from the start.

Good try but a fail.

There is a trade in deal on the new iPhones at Carphone Warehouse. First time I’ve seen this on an iPhone.

so BOGO is not a sale to you? Only if you get instant gratification? So a family adding buying 2 phones and getting one credited back is not a sale to you...then so be it. But it is still a sale to the rest of the world.....

I never thought of the crapware PC makers put on PC's as features. But the same bloatware/crapware on a smartphone is somehow an awesome feature.. The samsung experience? lol Yep, I remember the HP experience long ago when I bought a PC loaded with HP crap.

That’s not a sale. You have to acquire a line in exchange for a BOGO. It’s not like the cost of two phones equal the cost of one phone.
But it does...you get one phone credited back to your account.....it is exactly a Buy One Get One....
They make it a credit back over time so people don't get the lump sum back and then disconnect and run out and sell the phone.

What does wifi signal have anything to do with mobile reception?

Something is a little different in this thread. Something is missing but I can't put my finger on it. Feels righteous though!

I’m just waiting for the financials to be released tomorrow.

Yup defiantly feels different.

It’s not like the cost of two phones is $1000. Vzw is crediting the cost of one phone for the purchase of a new line. So two phones still cost you $2,000.

But you get one credited back to your account. So as long as you keep the line open you get the device payment credited back to your account.
So 2 phones using your example of $2000 becomes $1000 after the credits are done to your account over time.

So...I saw this thread a week ago. And resisted clicking. I knew what it would be. Saw it again. Resisted again. It kept rising to the top and I saw the pages increase. 5, 10, then 15!

Finally today, I clicked.

Sheesh, what is wrong with us?

I knew better.

And if you're a single person and have no need for a 2nd line or do and no need to give them a $1000 phone.

BOGOs are done by the retailer who takes the hit (as they still has to pay the manufacturer for that good) hoping to get you into the store and then impulse buy other items; or accompanying items like more pasta sauce for that BOGO pasta. That's increased overall spending per customer.

In the case of phones its the carrier taking the hit (they still pay Apple for the phone, its a full MSRP sold device to Apple) to lock you into another line that they will make many times that money back in profits on the plan. After all let's face it, ATT's CEO for instance ain't getting $28.7 million per year salary with slim plan pricing margins.

But it’s not like you get a free phone. It’s a bait and switch to get the price of phone credited for two years of service in a new line.

Believe me, it's much better today than yesterday. Mods did some house cleaning.

correct...I hate them myself. But it does work for some that were going to upgrade and add a new line. They get a free phone after all the credits have been done. All they paid for was the new line.

No, bogo is not a sale for anyone period. Don't even try to reword it to make it sound better for you.

You are required to get another line, $25-30 a month after taxes on most providers. So then they credit the price of the phone, depending on the model from $32-$60. So in reality, you aren't getting a DEAL at all. You are locked in to a contract for 2 years and the extra line.

So no, it is not a sale.

My 512gb note9 bought at $450 full upfront payment required me to take up a 2 years contract at $35 monthly phone plan. So there is no sale there too then. :p

If I have learned one thing after being present in millions of OS and platform debates, it’s this:

It all comes down to taste ;)
