Does anyone else think there is a possibility that this comes in 2 versions, meaning low end with A5 and high end with A6?

I don't, because I think Apple would want to make the A6 their minimum SoC moving forward ... particularly given the feature set of iOS7. If they offer 3 phones all A6 powered, the iPad 4 (A6), and revise the Mini and/or iPod Touch to use an A6, that will create a pretty solid economy of scale (leaving only "legacy" devices and the AppleTV to carry the A5).

Just my $0.02 :)

This does not have the usual certifications on the back like you would expect so it is either a fake or an early production test smuggled/stolen from the factory.

Why is nobody being prosecuted for all of these leaks? There are specific rules surrounding publicly traded companies and misappropriation of information.

It seems like it is getting worse each year.

No way to contain leaks anymore. It's the most popular device on the planet. And iPhone leaks are BIG news in the tech community. Factory workers are getting paid to smuggle parts or take pics. The days of big surprises are over.

There will always be Chinese-$-1-per-hour-factory-workers that can probably earn a year salary by selling these parts.

Can't help but think this is definitely legit now.

Roll on the 10th, these things are going to sell like hot cakes at the right price!

At the right price is the big unknown. I'm not a fan of colored plastic but my guess is the intended market for these doesn't care about unibody aluminum and diamond cut chamfers. I hope Apple doesn't overprice this or it really could be a flop. The mini worked because it looked like a premium device.

Apple is gonna have to go silhouette style for the commercials, b/c this thing will not sell based on looks.

It looks almost exactly like an iPhone 5 in a case which is how a great many iPhone owners use them.
I'd also bet that the biggest selling iPhone 5 is the lowest capacity one.
Anyone wanna bet that that will also be the capacity of the 5C.
So...... basically you get all the features of an iPhone 5, that doesn't need a case, for cheaper than an iPhone 5.
This thing will have no problem selling based on looks.

SJ always said he nor apple cared about market share, that they were all about creating products they wanted to themselves use. With that in mind, I don't understand the iphone 5 compromise edition...

Because A) Steve Jobs is no longer around, sorry, but what he would have done is irrelevant, Apple can't make decisions based on what Steve Jobs would have done in 2010, B) times have changed, there's far more competition, Apple has been at the top and at some point they'll become desperate to stay there, and C) people who can't spend $650 on a phone still deserve a good smartphone experience, whether that be here in the US or in an "emerging market." Just because it's "less" than the iPhone 5 doesn't mean it's not better than a similar mid-range device from a competitor. You can offer an amazing product at various price points, they don't all have to be top of the line.

To ignore emerging markets would be a HUGE mistake IMO. To ignore young people (who may be more likely to buy this - either because of price, durability, or just because it's colorful) would be a mistake. I'm 100% behind Apple on this.

Plus, if Apple follows their pattern of - new model one year / refresh the next year - this means we'll be seeing a "new" iPhone every year. And that could be huge in areas of the world where people have the money to upgrade frequently.

Of course now 20 people will come along telling me I'm wrong, just telling it how I see it.

Probably because despite what Apple says about not liking leaks they do like the free publicity that comes with it. While I'm not sure if the leaks are intentional or not I am pretty sure that Apple enjoys the publicity as long as the leaks don't show way too much. In the past the only leaks that I remember them really going after was the iPhone 4 and that was because they got a whole working phone.
This is not about what Apple likes or does not like. I am talking about SEC regulations governing publicly traded companies and how these leaks can potentially damage shareholder value.

Apple needs to clamp down hard on their employees and suppliers to prevent this stuff.

There was an Apple employee who was prosecuted for leaking iPhone/iPad back cover designs early to several case manufacturers in exchange for monetary compensation a while back.

You might enjoy the leaks but this site is not called mac/iOS device leaks, it is called "macrumors" so it should concentrate on publishing "rumours" rather than leaks like this.

Yeah I guess you're right - the Mini (bar the PPi) is premium looking and feeling. Time will tell :)

Icahan will be selling soon.

Why? Apple stock was over 700 not that long ago and is likely heading back up there. Apple stock is easily underpriced by $300 right now, based on earnings, profits, and projected growth (plus add in a new iPhone 5, this new cheaper iPhone, a new iPad and iPad Mini, plus their upcoming TV stuff, Apple still has lots of room to grow). There's little reason Icahan will sell yet.

Sony and Microsoft Managed is fine with the latest consoles.

Heck Sony even leaked their own little snapshots, and still no one knew it's shape even

"For those who can't afford an iPhone, introducing the new 4GB iPhone 5C for only $299" :D

What makes the 3/3G look better other than they were released under Steve Jobs and to some here Jobs could do no wrong.

2008 is not 2013.

The 3GS looked great *for its time*. It was cutting edge and looked futuristic. It looks silly today, especially if it were released as a modern smartphone.

Apple is rotting from the core.

middle school and high schools are going to be flooded with these rainbow iphones. Kids and teens love anything cool and colorful. They are definitley going to want a bright colored iphone this Christmas. Cell phones are pretty much the equivalent to what ipods were back in the day. everybody old enough to go through sex ed has one now.

I WILL BUY IT

Now I said it! You can judge me all you want! In fact I will buy several of them!

Why because its plastic? Or because it has a smaller screen?

Apple's going to have a SKU management situation like never before if they have a ton of colors. I'd imagine there will only be one or two storage options and wouldn't be surprised if there was an element of carrier independence (a la latest iphone 5 that works for t mobile and at&t LTE).

It won't get much worse than it already is.

Unlocked, AT&T, and T-mobile are all the same phone right now. (And then Sprint and Verizon. In the US of course)

The problem is, each carrier already has their own SKU because they are packaged with the appropriate SIM cards. So in a retail store, there are 6 SKUs per carrier for the iPhone 5 (black and white in each capacity). And two for each of the 30 pin phones per carrier.

Is there an unlocked iPhone 4? I didn't think so... But either way right there we have 48 or 50 different iPhone SKUs.

If they continue doing things the same way (and I'm assuming 5 colors- haven't counted them. And also two sizes!) they'll have 40 SKUs for the 5C and 30 for the 5S. I don't see this being a massive problem except for maybe the older, smaller stores.

On the flip side, they could cut back to 20 5C SKUs and supply a SIM card (which they already have and sometimes do anyways) and just push their free personal setup service to get it all up and running. If it lacks LTE, that could also help consolidate them further.

And I'm not clear on what advances have been made in radio technology since the 5 was introduced. They could probably put all of the GSM CDMA and 1x/edge radios on a single chip at this point and it wouldn't shock me if the 5S has all of the LTE bands on a single radio as we'll.

My point is, I'm sure somebody has considered this already. :)

iPods don't sell out like the iphone does at launch. So, it stands to reason someone is going to buy something that isn't their first choice of size and/or color simply to get one at launch.

Exactly. Under supply the popular colors and low storage and force people to buy up to the higher storage capacities and/or buy the less popular colors.

and are those on sale yet? When production ramps up pre release, you can't control. That is why mac pro was so secret.
