Has any of these folks with access to the iPhone 5C rear shell indicated how the plastic feels? Is it premium plastic like Nokia or HTC or Motorola or slimy Samsung plastic?

what in the world is Apple thinking? This reminds me of the GS3 or GS4 for some reason and it's disgusting :(

The tapered back really camouflages the 3G/3GS's thickness. I'm always surprised to see how thick it is in comparison to the iPhone 4 and 5.

Yeah I guess you're right - the Mini (bar the PPi) is premium looking and feeling. Time will tell :)

My guess is Apple isn't as concerned about the mini cannibalizing full size iPad as they are about a low cost iPhone cannibalizing the flagship device. Hence the mini is aluminum and chamfered edges and the low cost iPhone is colored plastic. Also I think the audience this low cost phone will be marketed to will probably go for colors and not care that the device is plastic.

I'm hoping all of these leaked images and videos are fake, because the colors look nasty. Offering different colors is great, but not like this. Not like this.

The screen, the build, the tech, etc. It was amazing in 2008. Now not so much. It's all old and outdated.

What does that have to do with this phone? The only real similarities to the 3G/GS is the plastic casing.

Does anyone else think there is a possibility that this comes in 2 versions, meaning low end with A5 and high end with A6?
There won't be two versions of the iPhone 5C. Which already is the low end with A6. And iPhone 5S high end with a new A7 chip.

I'm looking forward to getting a 5c and retiring my old iPhone 4.

To me Smartphones have become utilitarian. It is an incredible tech that is common place. The design should reflect that, I don't need a slab of the future I have to treat like high end jewelry. Give me something that looks like it can take a few knocks.

Well, not impressed with the shell, but the finished product should look much better than the shell.

I'm beginning to think S models mean "Secret" because we've barely seen any leaks ... pretty impressive.

Well, it's not that hard to cover up a model that looks like its predecessor. It wasn't that hard for the Apple engineers to walk around in public with an iPhone 4S, compared to the iPhone 4 which got majorly leaked.

So funny how plastic is so "cheap and junky" now. I bet all of you hating on this probably used a 3GS a few years ago and probably thought it was the nicest phone at the time.

Plastic does not imply cheap junk. This is a product that Apple can use to cover their current price umbrella, and something that they can scale to very high volumes of production.

Its sad that people really don't appreciate just how much time and cost goes into the very precise low tolerance metal fabrication of the iPhone 5 enclosure. You expect Apple to be able to afford to sell one of the most intricately manufactured consumer products in history at mid-range prices? Their margins already took a hit selling the 5 at a premium price. Very precise metal fab is not like silicon which gets cheaper over time the more you manufacture. It gets more and more complex and costly as you scale production to a vast mass-market scale. The iPhone 5 precision manufacturing is already the first of its kind for a consumer product at a scale of 80+ million per year.

i like it. i'll get it in red though.
for some odd reason ive always liked toyish looking cell phones it started back when i got my first cell phone.

Apple's going to have a SKU management situation like never before if they have a ton of colors. I'd imagine there will only be one or two storage options and wouldn't be surprised if there was an element of carrier independence (a la latest iphone 5 that works for t mobile and at&t LTE).

I have a feeling they can handle it.

I'm hoping all of these leaked images and videos are fake, because the colors look nasty.

They are supposed to be, just a bit, so that buyers with money and taste will look at the higher profit 5S instead. But kids who are into wild colors might love it anyway even if they have the cash.
