They will not even exchange it out? If they admit that the engineers are looking at the problem then I do not understand why they would think reseting to factory settings would fix it. This is unacceptable!

I was told if resetting settings / resetting to factory settings didn’t solve it they would pass me onto aftersales to get a return / replacement, since my PM is still eligible for a return.

I was also got told resetting things is solving it for some people when I questioned in what world would it change anything. I think it’s bs obviously.

I also asked if this is something they were looking into, and all they could tell me is they received calls from a lot of PM users about this. Thought I should mention this was the U.K. support.

I’m not considering a replacement cause it’ll be a waste of time, on 2000 posts here not a single person had success getting a different display by doing so. One user here checked 14 different phones at different stores and all of them had the same warmer shift. Face it, this can’t be intentional - but I’ll be more than happy to be proven wrong if someone here gets a different display.

I’ll probably hold onto my PM until January and see how things pan out. I’ll definitely stick around in this thread.

I got a pretty good white by adjusting the filters. But I will tell you the 12 PM OOB looks the same as my year old 11 PM.

Even though i got my 12 pro screen to look pretty good I hate knowing my 3 year old X’s screen is better, like no question I’d choose that screen ten out of ten times.

then I think, I just paid 1300 dollars for this...wtf am I thinking??

It makes me mad knowing working people splurged on this luxury purchase after years and years of having an old phone and they got this. Especially those in areas that aren’t as privileged as some western countries are.

Ditto on other posters who have advised: don’t incentive Apple to behave in ways we don’t want to see.

I think my screen looks great! First picture is 11 Pro Max & 2nd picture is 12 Pro Max. Both look good. Only difference is the gray uniformity on my 12 Pro Max is great compared to my 11 Pro Max.

Just adding to the data here. I just returned my iPhone Mini, ordered on launch Friday, serial started with C7CDM, I don't know how to interpret the code, but there you go.

The display was very yellow compared to my X and less bright, and since I hadn't traded or sold my X yet, I went back to using that (luckily my battery health on the X is still in the low 90's). Also I had the issue where swiping to unlock or entering my passcode was useless for the first 2-5 attempts. I've been around and around with some AirPods Pro with online chat with the customer service, although I'd say Apple does seem to have decent service compared to most other large companies, so I just took advantage of the online return process where I didn't need to talk to anyone.

Anyway, I'll wait for a bit until everything seems to play out and either quality control is better or a fix is implemented (although I know that a software fix doesn't seem possible at this point). I was really looking forward to a smaller iPhone with all or at least most of the bells and whistles. Maybe next year the mini might even get a triple lens setup, although I'm not holding my breath. Maybe I'd be better off finding a good used 11 pro on eBay. Still likely a big upgrade to my aging X.

Same issue here.
To note I’m in the UK.

12 Pro on launch had yellow tint - returned.

12 Pro Max on launch day had yellow tint. Yesterday bought another one and compared side by side with current 12 Pro Max - exactly the same, if not slightly worse.

No issue with blacks/flickering though - just yellow, especially when compared to 16” MacBook Pro, iPad Pro, 11 Pro Max, X and 7 Plus.

The two 12 Pro Maxes had different serial number - G0DN and F2 something.

Just back from Apple store. Although in lockdown, managed to speak to one of sales staff outside and he knew about the issue. Showed my his iPhone 12 Pro Max and it was the same. Said he even took some into the back in the dark and compared and they’re all warm tinted.

I’m on the same boat as you with my PM in the U.K.

Really curious to see if Apple will do anything about it at all.

they did a story on the mini problem, this yellow screen has been going on for years probably why they haven’t, same every year lol.

This year the yellow tint especially on grey colours is way too aggressive, especially in dark mode.

Good to hear the staff at the Apple store are aware of it and it’s not isolated cases.

MacRumors have just posted an article about the issue and state that Apple have acknowledged this as an issue internally.

Either a software fix or a repair programme incoming hopefully.

The MacRumors article is about the raised blacks issue on low brightness levels, NOT about the yellow tint issue.

I've just picked up my 12PM. Serial no: G0NDL.

I've only compared it to my old iPhone 7 Plus. It is noticably more yellow when comparing them side by side. Then I compared it to my BenQ SW240, which I use for photo editing, which gives me almost identical results as prints. I noticed that my 7 Plus is slightly cooler, having a slightly more bluish/cooler skin tone on people and lighter details, while the 12PM is almost identical to what I see on the monitor. The difference is so subtle that it won't really matter for photo editing.

In terms of whites, the 7 Plus is clearly way more white and bright than the 12PM, but it is also way more white than the monitor. It actually hurt my eyes, which might be why I'm usually on 25-50% brightness throughout the day. Actually, when going from the 7 Plus to the monitor, even the monitor seems yellow.

This has been tested with True Tone off (7 Plus doesn't have this), light theme, Night Shift off, 100% brightness.

Then I tested for flickering, turning on an all black video in a completely black room:
100% brightness: I couldn't even see my phone.
75%: Green at the very top, lasted for less than a second, then turned all black.
50%: See 75%.
25%: The entire screen is slightly grey/green, but barely noticeable. I could see where the screen was, but that was all.
0%: See 100%.

I'm not entirely sure if this is worth the hassle for me, risking getting a replacement that might be way worse.

That is interesting! So you don’t see a slightly green skin tone on your 12PM compared to your monitor? Because on my 12 mini the skin tone is a little greenish, compared to my monitor. Also photos with a blue background, edited on my computer, have a blueish/greenish (sea green? :/) background on my 12 mini..Instead of just blue.

Don’t get confused between green/gray and yellow. I believe they are different issues...

I’ve attached some images. The first is with the 12PM on 100% brightness, which is higher than what the monitor can deliver. On the second I’ll try to match them. Seems that the monitor is more yellow than the 12PM.

I believe the display problem of flickering can be expected be fixed by apple through software update. If you do some search, 11 experienced similar flickering problems, but eventually fixed by software. But yellow-tint or any color accuracy problems might not.

I personally highly recommend to ask for a replacement of the yellow-tint problem, since we have plenty of time to try to get a perfect screen. (according to apple refund policy, the due of refunding extended to January, for orders that delivered after Nov. 10)

Chiming in for the first time after finally researching and finding this is a known issue, so I feel like lending my situation to the discussion.

It is a pretty similar situation to many of the posts in this thread. I received my new iPhone 12 regular model on Oct. 30. When turning on the new phone, of course I used the easy data transfer option by putting my old iPhone 8 next to the new iPhone 12. Almost immediately upon setting the phones next to each other, I noticed an extremely warm tint on the new iPhone 12. First, I made sure the settings on both phones were exactly the same. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. My old iPhone 8 was much more white and blue, iPhone 12 was so much warmer.

After looking through this thread, it seems like I am part of the same issue that many people are noticing. I hope Apple comes out and makes an announcement either saying that it is normal or that these are defective screens and they will do something about this.

Can you explain what option and settings use to profile iPhone screen? I have i1Display Pro also and want try Calman to check CCT/white balance and deltaE.
Use Calman with the ColorChecker workflow, with the OLED spectral correction, then target D65/sRGB. I also do 20% saturation sweeps.

I wouldn't hold my breath for anything until after the return period... the last thing Apple wants is a flood of exchanges.... IF they do anything it would probably be some screen exchange program... and thats a big IF

Just to clarify the Macrumors article addresses this thread, not the yellowing issue blowing up here. Separate issue (although some seem to be experiencing both issues).
