Looks obviously yellowish on top (of the photo).

Can be crappy camera, tho. By the way, most of photos in this thread are kinda hard to decide.

3rd MBP

Ok guys, I think I'm happy with my 3rd MBP.

It's a little bit washed out at the bottom, but I think that's the way these panels are and also depending on viewing angle. If you haven't checked this link, then do so

http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/viewing_angle.php

I shot a photo and opened it in Photoshop on my PC. When I used the color sample tool the RGB values are more or less identical all over the screen which means neutral color (except the far left end the far right where the screen is a little bit darker and has a little bit higher red value)

By the way, this is after I calibrated with my Spyder 3. The standard profile really sucks.

Edit: also worth to mention that it has no dead/stuck pixels

Also got my replacement...panel is decent, but now the case is warped on this one!

One of the corners isn't sitting flush with the desk, so it bounces when I type

Going for my 4th replacement now`

I think the next will have another problem(revenge of the yellowish tinge)...maybe I should just get a refund....

Good to hear that people are getting replacements they are happy with.

Can you post your new panel details?

I haven't visited this thread in a while since I've given up on the whole "hunting for yellow tint/returning adventures", but I will say that I've learned 2 things from this experience

1. if you look hard enough for a problem, you're bound to find it. And once you do, you're miserable. Sometimes it's best to stay away from threads about issues, because curiosity will eventually kill the cat, and you'll start lamenting your new-found "defect" as well. Additionally, it should be clear that the human mind can force itself to see things. Like the opposite of repressing memories. If you really believe that something is there, and try hard enough to see it, you'll begin to see it. I know it sounds like some kind of spiritual bullsh*t, but it's the same thing as how your mind can scare you after you've seen a horror movie and are trying to fall asleep.

2. I think this issue is inherent in all MBP/MB screens. Honestly, it's been over a month since these threads started popping up, and STILL I haven't seen a single "perfect" screen. After I learned about this issue, I started checking friends' MBs, MBPs, even my LCD desktop monitors, they all have the same exact thing, to some degree. I think it's something we have to live with.

sure, it's a 9CBB (LG-Philips I believe)

I got the Samsung on this one and it was good overall (minor tinging)...too bad it's going back...hopefully my next replacement will be another Samsung (it was the xxB7 this time)

Got them to give me a free Incase Nylon backpack this time....but they acted as if they were doing me a huge favour, which is ridiculous because it's their own crappy quality control causing the issues

So I've read this and a couple of related threads on the forum.

Some "professionals" are claiming that the problem is that we, noobs, don't calibrate our monitors. Sure, go on and try to calibrate that!

Other people are claiming that the problem is normal for TN-panels. I can partially agree with that, but tell me, why don't previous gen MacBooks have it? I mean really, I've seen many of them, they're all pretty good.

hello to all fellow i5/i7 macbook pro owners,

i just replied on a thread on the official apple discussion forum, regarding the back-light bleeding issue here:

http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2410025&tstart=0

i am wondering if i should consider myself lucky coz i am having a yellow tint free 15" i7 HR Glossy mbp?

....could you please share if your machine also has that same kind of "subtle" back-light bleed at the bottom of your screen as well?

thank you very much for your reply in advise.

cheers.

Screen Test

15" 3.66 Ghz I7 8MB 500GB 7200RPM Hi-Res screen

Performed all tests. Passed with flying colors. No dead or stuck pixels. No yellow tint. Top and bottom of screen look identical to me.

MacBook Pro 15" 2.4 i5

No dead pixels.
Possibly a slightly lighter/yellowing at the bottom part of the screen, but it's hardly noticeable at all.

An easy way to see the yellow tint is to switch your desktop to a solid white. You will see any yellow tint right away...

Calibrate your screen BEFORE TESTING.

not to be rude, but i find it kind of ridiculous for people to post pictures of their macbook screen, asking if there is yellow tinge or not.
1. First, it is extremely hard to tell with a photo
2. if the owner him or herself cannot ascertain the fact that there is yellow tinge or not, then they should stop being so nitpicky and just enjoy their new macbook pro.

i know i may sound extremely rude, but it annoys me that people are having problems with something that they are not able to see.
if you think you have yellow tinge and can clearly see it, then absolutely take it in.
But if you even question yourself if there truly is problem, then there might not be any problem at all.

Sorry for being trollish.

Good point... It is VERY apparent.. If you have the problem you will diffidently see it very easily...

My screen seems have a very slight gradient of colour from the left hand side being more blue/grey, to the right hand side being more yellow.

Another way to describe it is that the colours seem a bit washed out along the bottom 1/4 and the right 1/4 of the screen. If I sit more to the right of the screen the colours shift a little and it's not really apparent at all.

Comparing to my iMac G5 iSight 17" from late 2005, there is more shifts in colours in the MBP, although some is still apparent on the iMac

I wish I never saw this thread, cos then I'd not have even noticed my screen has a slight yellow to it in places!!!! :/

I compared my friend's i7 and my old Core Duo. The light bleeding on his MBP is obvious, solid color background or picture background. Yours is not so bad. I took these photos under normal ambient light.

I can clearly see the yellow tint at the bottom of Menno87's screen. (Yes it's rotated, it's at the top in the pic here).

If you can not see it, you have poor color vision. I'm seriously trying not to be rude. I can see it. I'm 100% certain. It's very easy. It's either because I have excellent vision, you have poor vision, or I have seen it before so I know what to look for, or some combination of all of these.

I mean it's just there. The lines at the top in the pic are MUCH lighter, and a bit yellower. You can't see that!? I mean if you really look and you can't see it, I'd be kind of surprised. I can't have excellent vision...I have strong glasses and poor night vision! All I know is I am not red-green colorblind (which is very common in men, I think up to 1/5 or something surprisingly big).

Normally, how marked a difference can the yellow tinting be?

My one seems to radiate a yellow tint glow from the bottom right corner/right side of screen, where the colours seem to be a bit washed out and yellow. This effects the dark colours too.

It's not a huge difference, but as I know it's there now (after reading this tread) it's a bit annoying.

I don't understand what you are wanting to know. I don't think any of us have seen enough screens to be able to come up with some sort of overall conclusion. If you see a yellow gradient when you are looking at your screen from a normal viewing angle then I suppose you have the problem.

the only way i can describe it is that the bottom right and partially up the right side of the screen has a warm colour feeling to it, where a large amount of the screen from the top left to the middle is cooler in colour. I'd not say it's a yellow gradient, and it seems to be most apparent at the bottom right corner.

It's so faint though that I have to point it using test screens before anyone can really agree with me.
