I'm always simply AMAZED that people this this piss yellow thing is "warm" and acceptable. Bull. Whites are NOT supposed to be yellow, they are WHITE!! Look at those yellow screen shots above - the color gamut is terrible. Everything looks like it has a sunscreen filter over it. Ridiculous that anyone defends that as being acceptable.

What people are calling "cool" blue is actually just not yellow. The early iPhones and iPad 1 were almost unerversally this more correct color gamut. My iPad 2 and iPhone 4S were TERRIBLY yellow tinted -in fact every single one I've ever seen was. Luckily, my iPad 3, while still yellow compared to my old iPad 1, is much LESS yellow than the iPad 2, so I guess I'm semi-happy. It could have been much worse.

That said, I'm still disappointed about the screen. I can maybe see an extremely SLIGHT resolution increase at a practical distance, but in everyday use it's not really going to be that noticeable. I showed both screens to several people in a blind test asking which had a higher resolution, and it was about 50-50 of what people picked. This is true - so it's not just me. Plus, at the same brightness level on the brightness slide bar, both the iPad 1 and iPad 2 are MUCH brighter than the iPad 3. Not a big deal as I can still turn it up as bright as I need it to be, but I'm just saying. And to my eyes, the colors are not even close to the Super amoled+ screen - the latter which is stunning to my eyes. By comparison the iPad 3 screen is good but kinda ho-hum.

What is unacceptable to you, might be acceptable to me.

Then I guess you are OK with redefining white as yellow-white. Too each is his own (or better said - Apple fanboys are blind to a lot of Apple defects).

I'm starting to think its just color temp.

I opened four new iPads,NAND they all have nearly the same color profile.

Well if it's the color profile it can be fixed via software, if it's s manufacturing defect with the hardware then a replacement should be appropriate. Mine seems to be white but it'd my first iPad so I'm not able to compare, however the screen doesn't appear to be uniform (but it might just be the angle). I'm trying to find a test online to test the color and backlight to see if it's aokay. Figure I have two weeks to test it out nd return it if it seems to be s universal issue rather then just the nature of the IPS panel apple uses.

Original had a REALLY yellow screen so i went to apple store to pick two more up to try my luck (go ahead, downvote me). It ended up being my original was the most yellowest of them. One of the ipads had a really white screen but unfortunately there were scratches on the back and 2-3 chips next to the apple logo. I ended up keeping one that was slightly yellow but yellow none the less. pretty irked.

My screen is basically the same as the iPad original, just a tad warmer

Switching from iPhone 3GS to iPhone 4 drove me nuts on color

But this is a lot less serious change IMO

It looks far more balanced

If white and grey look yellow I flip lol

I am about to open my new iPad up, and it just dawned on me that I could play my grayscale patterns on it and get some readings with my colorimeter.

Not to sound mean or rude, but unless you know anything about grayscale calibration (and had access or own a colorimeter or similar, and a proper one i.e. Spyder 3 doesn't count), you should not comment with "facts".

This type of thing actually happens quite often to TV calibrators. Calibrate a customer's TV, and the customer does not like the results. The far majority of the population think "brighter is better", "the TV needs POP", etc.... So they have gotten used to the "cool" color temp. Once calibrated, the image becomes much "warmer". And the customer may think it doesn't look good.

Now based on the pictures I have seen, it doesn't look "warmer", it just looks yellow. But then again, the iPad2 is way to blue.

There is definitely a problem with yellow tints. I just restored my iPad 3 from my iPad 2 and instantly I was greeted by my old lock screen which now looks rather horribly yellow as opposed to crystal white.

I'm not freaking out yet but if it persist for a week without any fix from Apple then I'm having my unit exchanged.

Mine is yellow when viewed from a low angle, but I'm sure it'll age in and go away. If it's still like that in a week I'll return it for an exchange.

I really hate warm/yellow tints. My firesale touchpad had it, blah.

Thankfully my new iPad has a nice neutral color screen without significant light bleeding.

My new iPad has a slight yellow tint compared to the iPad 2 which is a blue tint, but the colors look so much better on the new iPad.

In my opinion, the warmer tint produces much more accurate colors. The blue tint makes it look shiny and flashy, but theres a reason THX certified TV displays use warm tints.

Luckily I have not a single light bleed issue. Im so relieved.

This sort of thing doesn't bother me, but if it bother you, my new iPad has a pretty noticeable yellow tint. I noticed it as soon as I fired up Safari, and when I placed it next to my iPad 2 it became very obvious. But it also made me think the color replication on my iPad 2 might not be so spot on either....

No worries here, I'm happy with it.

Attached is a pic.

I didn't even put the new one next to the old one before I sold it. I'm very happy with my iPad. It is warmer, but it's good.

Same here. No light bleeds, no dead pixels. I'll put it through the paces the next few days and see if the tint changes, but overall I'm very happy with the new iPad.

If Samsung is confirmed to be producing all of the ipad 3 screens, then they will all veer closer to a warm/yellowish whites. Some people hate this, but these screens are considered more desirable among photo professionals due to the fact that they reproduce colors more realistically. I'm not saying they're objectively better for everyone's eyes, but we still don't know if there are multiple panel manufacturers for the new as there was for the ipad 2. I guarantee that anyone on here who thinks their new ipad is "yellower" than their old ipad has a samsung screen and is just comparing it to an older lg screen with a different hue. It was a lottery finding out what screen manufacturer you would get with the older ipad (2) as there's no way to tell aside from just comparing the screen hues or opening up the ipad and verifying the lcd model number. So if someone hates the new ipad's screen, you can return it, but you're VERY likely to get the same manufacturer at this point. This is assuming that Samsung is indeed the sole manufacturer for the new screens.

My friends iphone 4s has a horrible yellow tint compared to my iPhone 4. He has had it for a month and it hasn't change so I don't thing just leaving it will solve the problem.

The yellow tint ruins the screen, I can't imagine it's a choice made by Apple?

Whether or not this statement is true (which it's probably not), photo professionals represent about 0.1% of the iPad buying population. I doubt Apple is catering to them. The majority of the rest of the population obviously prefers a non-yellow (let's say "accurate" white) gamut. The yellow thing is obviously in some way a cost cutting measure.

The entire top 1/4 of the iPad in vertical position is yellow. Since I live 2.5 hours from an Apple Store, I called Customer Care and they have initiated a return and replacement. They were extremely helpful. I <3 Apple! I just hope the replacement is better.

I know most won't agree with me but I look at it this way:

My iPad 2 was perfect, my iPhone 4S is perfect. I never had to exchange either of those devices. For the amount of money this iPad costs, I expect it to be perfect too.

I wouldn't accept this type of flawed screen in a desktop, laptop or HDTV. And I won't in an iDevice either.

Mine must have been made by a Chinese slave that was color blind. I've run through several screen test programs and everything looks perfect. No dead pixels and not a hint of yellow.

Just got mine :(

Returned 5 iPad 2s for backlight bleeding and now this. How long do I have to return it? Want to wait a while and see if it improves.

Really don't feel like going to my local Apple store... they employees are so rude and incompetent.

Omg are you serious? I had bleeding on my iPad 2 and guess when I noticed it? Never! Only when I looked at an all black screen. Do you do that often?

My screen is warmer. Not too much of a problem except that blues look more like purple. Especially the Facebook app.
