My new portable office:

2011 17" MBP 2.3GHz

iPhone 4 16Gb
Jawbone Bluetooth Headset

iPad 2 64Gb WiFi

I just picked a 2.2 15 myself with the 7200rpm drive, is the vertex miles ahead like everyone says?

Thanks. I had the 27" iMac but really started to yearn for more portablility. When the new MBP came out the power they offered made it a no brainer to switch. They are amazing when upgraded to this spec.

1. 2011 13" Core i5 with 8GB ram.

2. I wanted a work laptop and my desktop was getting out dated so I bought the 13" MBP with a Henge dock to take care of both of those issues. Henge dock is hooked up to an Asus 23.4" LED monitor. I've had an iPad 1 32GB 3G for a while now and it is great out of the office but sometimes it isn't enough.

I have an Apple bluetooth keyboard and magic mouse on the way to replace the Microsoft setup so I can have all my keyboard shortcuts back.

3. Pretty basic skin for my iPad and nothing for the MBP but both are carried in a STM messenger bag when on the run.

Saw one of these in the MBA forum. Why not have one here?

What's your setup consist of?

1. Which MacBook Pro do you have?

2. Is the Pro your main computer? Do you use it along with an external monitor, another computer(s), iPad?

3. Use a sleeve, skin, speck case? What kind of bag or backpack have you found suitable for the Pro's?

1. Early-2011, 17", 8GB RAM, 500GB Momentus XT

2. Secondary computer - my primary is a Mac Pro desktop

3. Speck Clear case, and travel bag of course :)

Here's my setup:

- MBP as in my sig, sitting on Rain mStand, WD 1394b with drive replaced by Seagate 1.5tb 7200rpm (for Time Machine backups)
- 2x Dell 2408WFP monitors, one on its side driven by DisplayLink USB that can do 1920x1200
-standard wired keyboard + Magic Mouse + Logitech G9
- Epson V750 Pro scanner
- Epson Stylus Pro 3800 printer
- Also not visible is my Mac Mini that lives behind the monitors and is the sync-meister for all my iTunes devices.

Answers to questions:
2. It is my primary computer.
3. No sleeves or skins. I usually use a modified Tenba Messenger camera bag which is my daily commuting bag (NJ-NYC via rail). It's got a padded laptop slot in the back plus I installed a modified camera bag in the cargo area as a quick-grab pouch for my daily camera (these days usually a 1930s Leica). If I have to be all business I'll use a Tumi bag which doesn't have room for a camera. I kind of have a ton of bags. :)

Did you connect one monitor through mini display port -> dvi and the other through usb -> dvi?
If so, could you kindly share the link you got the usb -> converter from?

Almost. The primary monitor is connected to the mini DP to regular DP cable I got from Monoprice.

The portrait monitor uses a Diamond Multimedia BVU195. The drivers come directly from DisplayLink. Here's where I got it:

Like all these USB-DVI converters the video isn't exactly smooth. I only use it for loupe view in Lightroom and sometimes for web browsing (which is pretty cool) so that doesn't matter to me.

Nice setup. How do you like the monitors? Considering buying some as they don't totally break the bank and I don't need anything crazy. I'm also considering Yamaha HS50Ms, but they're much pricier.

Also, what's the advantage of the Apogee Duet over something like a Firestudio Mobile? Seems expensive!

For the money like the rokits a lot. I never took to the yamahas as they sorely lacked low-end bass response.

Apogee da convertors are IMO the best out there. If you don't need the additional io of firestudio I'd opt for the new Duet 2 which is supposed to sound even better. Frankly it makes the Rokits sound better too. I'd get a solid audio interface over anything else in my studio.

I'm thinking about picking up an iPad but wonder if I'll get enough use out of it since I have my MBP and an iPhone 4. What's your experience?
