I’m having the problem and I’m not on any kind of discount plan and I’m getting the run around from every angle - Verizon is looking better and better at this point.
I agree with you. I pay too much a month to deal with this amateur hour business. Seems like switching to Verizon you can get $500 if you bring in your own phone on certain plans.

I’m confused. When t-mobile reps come back and say “they” have changed eligibility, who are they referring to? T-mobile management, Apple, who? Because if it was some change to eligibility that Apple made, shouldn’t people on other carriers be having the same problem?

What happens if I try to use my Parents T-Mobile account? Will I have any issues? Just seems like I'm having an different error.

Adding another data point here...I'm on a SimpleChoice Unlimited plan and was able to enroll without issue. I have a discount on my account, too.

Good point, I don't think any other carrier is having this problem.

I’m on Magenta Max and have been since it rolled out and this is my first time upgrading on IUP after pre-ordering last year for the 12 Pro Max. All reps saying that it has to do with plans are probably only half-right. It kept giving me the same message as everyone else despite already having the top tier plan, eligible phone, switching from physical to esim, toggling Two-Factor on and off, and even toggling takeover protection. Something has got to be messed up server side, but whether that’s T-Mobile or Apple is unclear here.

This is accurate! Ok my account was individual - gsa account when moved to an individual- regular class it worked. Now I am good and pre order ready
Make sure to ask a rep what the account type classification and ask to be moved to an individual-regular

Made an account just to post here since this is weird and I've already invested some time in trying to get things working. (Spoiler alert: I didn't.)

I spent about an hour combined talking to Apple and T-Mobile on the phone. Based on what others are saying, it definitely sounds like it's an account type thing, though I have a regular account (~18 years old) and have had no problems doing this in previous years.

Apple ultimately couldn't get me an answer but sent me to T-Mobile since the issue is when confirming the carrier through them. T-Mobile sent me to a tier-2 tech who did a pretty extensive review and ultimately suggested waiting until Friday and trying again because there's no reason this should be occurring since this already is a regular account (and always has been).

The T-Mobile tech said T-Mobile's launching a similar program on Friday (Forever Upgrade or something like that), but with a two-year cycle—no option for one-year. Maybe that's a fit for some who can't get this to work.

I'm not in any huge rush, so I'm going to give it a try early next week sometime, hopefully once Apple and T-Mobile are talking to each other and figure out what's going on, then if it still doesn't work, just buy out my current IUP device, pay in full for a new one (using my current device as a trade-in) and use it as a hand-me-down in the future.

After a lengthy conversation with a rep from Virginia and an apple rep - we discovered the issue thanks to the forum post - she was able to make the change - once she did it took literal seconds before it worked.
But your plan prices most likely went up.

Make sure your account falls into the 3 categories listed in the picture - if it does you should be good. I had to specify the account types to the rep for her to notice - they usually just see individual and move on but if you tell them the sub categories they should be able to make the change.

Probably not if he is on one of the newer plans.. The government discounts have not applied to service plans since SimpleChoice. The only thing they can be used for now is add-ons.

I’m on a simple choice promo plan - being that was my plan the GSA discount was a removed but I guess the type was never reclassified. The rep also said my bill would not change

Well I got amplified and pay 160 for 4 lines. If I were to go to an individual account it would cost me 200.

Probably just move to ATT where I can get 4 lines for 160 and stop dealing with TMobiles BS

Does that have to do with account type? I would call to check - it shouldn’t change your plan just it’s classification in their system.

Oh OK.. Im on 2-line Magenta -- so thats $120 after auto-pay, with and without a govt discount.
Whats different between the amplified and Magenta @ $160 for 4-lines?

amplified you basically get Max with 10 dollars off a line

So it definitely was the discounts for me. Had another rep switch me to a magenta that came out less than my original with no discounts. Pre order went through in minutes. They really messed this process up

My account was sole prop and I just had it changed to individual-regular. Pre-approval process works now!

EDIT: Ok, now I'm getting a new error on the next step. "Cannot connect to your wireless carrier at this time."
