No rush

It's an absolutely tiny addressable market for the foreseeable future
Funny though how they waited to see how many hits they got from the Safari user agent for Vision Pro. I guess it was enough to justify working on an App. Either that, or they got an angry call from Tim Cook.

Agreed it’s an inelegant solution.

But you needed to get your feet wet to begin to slowly move towards smart glasses. You’re not solving a problem that doesn’t exist, you’re innovating for a world that isn’t here yet.
My only issue with this sentiment is that it isn't how Apple has proven to operate. They won't throw good money after bad. They should indeed be working full speed toward Glasses, because Glasses are the AR viewfinder that can and will change the world. But they pulled the rip cord very early with Vision Pro, and if it doesn't go well, Apple's continued investment in the space may dwindle.

Apple Vision Pro is a solution to a problem that doesn't exist, and a very inelegant solution at that.
I'd say that's almost the right sentiment. AR has the potential be a huge deal for everyday/lifestyle computing. The key is to get the viewfinder right. This is the only part that is still missing, and its the limitations of technology that are in the way. In the same way that no one is going to hold an iPhone camera up to their face for any length of time, no one is going to wear a giant monster headset. Glasses are the answer, but we are a long way from that.

Well of course, we can block ads in the Safari version and we can’t in a proper YouTube app.

However, Google has no beef with Apple and the two of them have been partners for a long time.
I wouldn’t go so far as to say they have “no beef”.
"I will spend my last dying breath if I need to, and I will spend every penny of Apple's $40 billion in the bank, to right this wrong. "I'm going to destroy Android, because it's a stolen product. I'm willing to go thermonuclear war on this."
Steve Jobs - 2010

100% disagreement. The smartphone solved a problem of converging a computer/web browser, phone, and camera, and it did so very elegantly. As soon as it came out, almost everyone that could afford it, got it.
I wish people would stop with this revisionist nonsense.

Apple sold 1.4m iPhone 1 and was 1/3 price of the Vision Pro. iPhone 3 by comparison sold 20m.

It was not instantly popular and most web sites were news/text which isn't appealing to most people.
It took years of hardware evolution and apps like Facebook, Instagram etc to emerge before it really started to grow.

Replace Vision Pro with iPhone, iPad, Apple TV and so on. You could say the same about all of it, and clearly be very wrong.
Well, it could be argued the original Apple TV was a problem looking for a solution, it wasn’t exactly successful and the entire idea of streaming movies and TV shows from your computer’s hard drive to a box pretty much immediately became laughable the second Netflix introduced streaming.
Which is why the second generation was like $200 cheaper and ditched all of that for just a bunch of streaming services.
Even Steven admitted as much.

Maybe you missed the word afford in there. The 3G came with a huge carrier subsidy.

Nice. I'm guessing the strong reviews are going to encourage more hold-outs to get their apps working natively with spacial computing.

Sure, it's a niche market now, but I'd be shocked if it didn't grow significantly over the next few years.

I’d be shocked if it didn’t follow Google Glass.

People called me an idiot for buying massive amounts of Apple stock at $0.15 in 2001 when I was in high school. They're pretty quiet these days.

You can appreciate this then. I bought heaps in October 1982 at 9 cents and kicking myself for not buying in June at 4 cents. High school reunions are fun though.

Sometimes things are created to improve things like entertainment or improve a process. Not everything has to solve a problem. Look at the smartphone, everyone was fine with making phone calls and texting with the current tech of the day.
Not my 70 year old mom (at the time) . She wouldn’t be able to message me in a different language that requires handstroke input or know how to use FaceTime. It was extremely difficult when I asked her to carry her MacBook when she travels .

You absolutely need to try it.

I was a skeptic like you. I trashed it everywhere and memed about it. Check my post history. Now I own one.

The demo was that good.
you think we should spend the $3500 or wait two years for Apple Vision Pro Series 2?

They want to spite Apple at the launch but they don't want someone who makes a pay app get too popular on the platform that is sure to get bigger some year.

People are too eager to pay for tech demos. I clown on this device but I know with some killer apps, AI integration like Iron Man Jarvis, lifelike human experiences of the adult variety, and just one handful of killer games on it. All that is an eventuality, its just your paying that much now to see hardly any of it. But you do get first crack at where it might go and if there is another lockdown before another version comes out, vision pro users will be looking pretty smart. Its a niche market till its half the price but people have more than that in their closets and in some towns, they are plenty of people that pretty much are wearing that much in clothes and tech daily. If you are that well off and still have no one at home, why not? Just know it will be a year before you see the best stuff for it. Every user is a lab rat right now.

Sometimes innovation starts by creating space for it and seeing what people come up with. That's pretty much what's happened from the iPhone to the iPad to Apple Watch. I still remember people saying "the iPad is just a glorified iPod" and questioning the point of the Apple Watch.

Wait. Definitely wait. Don't spend that kind of money like I did.

The only people who should be buying it now are Influencers, Developers (especially developers of apps for Vision Pro), and people who can afford it and who really want it.

If you know what it is and what it does, and you still want it now despite all the advice to wait, then this thing is for you.

In that case go for it. It's not your job to follow the advice of naysayers. You don't owe them anything.

And welcome.
