ReVanced says "Hey Gurl!"
Just say you don't value the creators that make the content and feel like you can steal from them.

Can always tell these comments come from people who have never made anything in their life.

YT pays them a bigger share than any other service and so it's easy to justify paying for YTP more than any other streaming or social media subscription.

I'm still on a $8 grandfathered price from back in the Google Play Music All Access days but I'd gladly pay triple that amount because most of that $ goes to the people making the videos I watch.

And for those whining about the content on YT, stop being lazy and curate your subscription feed so you're not a slave to the algorithm. I'm subbed to 300+ quality channels. I never run out of stuff to watch.

They’re both available for iPad, note it’s for safari not the YT app. Vinegar - tube cleaner in the App Store, a one time cost to purchase don’t recall what the price is.

Says it blocks ads too but I use Adguard to block ads universally for safari
I bought Vinegar and it confused the Hell out of me.

Until someone can show me an alternative option for running the YouTube app directly on my Apple TV, I’ll be continuing to pay for premium.

I’m not messing around with AirPlay or having a computer connected to my TV so I can save $16 a month.

No one said anyone was watching it. Why the attitude? My YT is also littered with "recommended" thumbnails of similar true-crime (body cam crap) all the time. The person you replied to is not wrong.

The recommendations page features recommendations, incredible.

Look, I've been as big of a fan of YT as there is, but people are right to be noticing that the "recommendations" are getting more and more stuffed with garbage.

The experience of what the actual content is, even within your own account scope of the recommendation algorithm, is getting really degraded.

I confess, I do like YouTube Premium probably more than any other streaming service and it also gives YouTube Music which has lot of niche music as compare to others. I do see lot of AI slop creeping into the recommendations but generally I have been aggressive in culling it. Most of my favorite content is the just hour long street walking video all over the world. The other thing I like is per device and time based customization. Plus no matter your language, you will find something to watch. I may try Youtube Premium lite. Unfortunately, streaming is becoming almost as pricey as cable TV.

Hey man… I only came here to make sure she was 18 and then I was going to leave.

Same here. I have the premium family plan which I share with my parents and I am not going to agonise over managing ad blockers or third party browsers with my elderly dad. My mom also largely consumes YouTube through the Apple TV and I am not savvy enough to block ads at the router level, or deal with whatever measures Google decides to implement to screw over people trying to block ads.

Right now, it costs roughly the same price as Netflix in Singapore (S$28 for premium vs S$30 for Netflix at its highest tier), and well, for the amount of content that we do consume, it's quite worth it. I guess it "just works" in the sense that I pay every month and we all don't get served ads, and people often forget to mention the free Youtube Music sub that gets thrown in as well. The service honestly stinks (compared to Apple Music), but well, it does the bare minimum enough for me to save S$11 a month from not paying for Apple Music.

If and when prices do increase in my country, I will pay. And I will continue to pay till, well, it's tricky when you are on a family plan and everyone has kinda gotten accustomed to not being served any ads.

My recommended page is 90% videos ive already watched, I used to click "not interested" followed by "because I've already watched it" for ages but it didn't seem to make a difference. I have to manually force a page refresh so that the "new to me" tab will appear.

Exactly my experience and another reason why, along with the price hike, I don't have any qualms about unsubscribing and see how it goes for me.

They keep raising prices while making things worse. That's not a recipe for "customer sat".

I got an e-mail about this, and I am not happy. I might give Premium Lite a try. I use YouTube so much that all the ads would drive me crazy if I went back to free mode. That and I don't want to lose background play.

It’s $20.99 for the individual premium if you buy through the iOS app. $11.99 for the premium lite.

I had a premium subscription for a while, it’s definitely nice not having the YouTube ads in there. I didn’t really love the YouTube music app and prefer Spotify. After my credit card expired I haven’t bothered going into my account and resubscribing.

I’ve noticed recently however significantly more ads. Longer ads. Ads that if you don’t manually skip basically turn into a podcast. It’s really not an enjoyable experience.

I have targeted ads turned off an the quality of the these ads is atrocious- snake oils to “stop the parisites that cause diabetes”, ai slop about how to speak better, erectile dysfunction ads (many of which are running a fine line of being inappropriate), tai chi exercise programs, whatever nonsense lose belly fat.

Most of these ads are ai slop and just overall garbage that I can’t imagine anyone buys into. Some of these ads are the same script with different ai voices and ai people. It’d be a much more pleasant experience if it was a normal advertising like for a car or restaurant. As a healthcare provider, I think these BS ads promoting unfounded medical claims need to get prosecuted - I think some of these ads are probably illegal under FDA law.

I really hate subscriptions. My wife an I have a Spotify duo plan, Netflix, Amazon prime, iCloud storage… I think that’s about it. We can use my parents Hulu. We don’t really watch a lot of TV/movies though.

If you thought about it at scale, it would seem a lot less ridiculous to you.

One user at $2.99 seems laughable to you, but it's not when it's 10 million.

I also currently get it for $0 with ad blocking so it's nothing but profit to them.
Nope. that still seems pretty ridiculous. You'd have to look at the other Side of it as well.

It's not like YT could offer a 'pirates only' version of YouTube for people who won't pay $8/month. So they'd have to offer the lite version, your proposed $3/month offering to everyone. And in that case, for each person who now joins for $3/month they are also losing another customer who would have paid $8 at the lite tier. so it's not all profit, there are real costs there too.

And let's be real. Most people who pirate aren't doing it because $7.99/month is crazy expensive, but $2.99 is fine. They don't want to pay anything, so all YT would be doing is lowering the income they collect from those looking to use the lowest tier. The rest of the people will just continue to pay $0/month, regardless of how low YT prices the lowest tier.

Still valuable to me at that price. I know there are ad blockers and such, but it’s a cat and mouse game with that sometimes. I’ll look at YouTube lite though.
I've been using adguard for 10 years or so. It never fails to block ads on my Mac. I airplay to my ATV so I can watch them on TV.

A lot of the channels I follow STILL don't have any ads on them; we all need to remember that YT's original business model was to simply host uploaded videos, collect data on who was watching what, and then sell that to advertisers. I knew that going in and I accepted it. YT's founders were fabulously successful, becoming billionaires, and you'd think they'd be happy with that.

NO. No, they weren't. They needed MORE MONEY, and so started shoving paid ads down our throat. I've started hitting "Command-Q" to immediately leave FB when an ad comes on, and if ALL of us had done that from the start, YT's original investors would've killed the Ad idea by the end of the week; so much for that, though. I do have a decent YT ad blocker that I use for some sites, and the few that it doesn't work for, I just don't watch anymore.

I wish more of us proletariat would follow this model, just leave any service that tries to screw us. I've dropped my amazoid membership, are-you-siriusXM, cable TV, won't fly on airlines anymore, won't even eat at burger king anymore. I'm old enough to remember just reading books, and touching grass, and walking; I don't need the rest of this "GIMME-MORE-MONEYYYYY!!" crap.

EDIT: Oh yeah, has anyone else noticed this YT crap?: if they shove an ad down your throat, mid-sentence during a video, and you immediately hit CMD-Q to quit YT, it doesn't work!?!?!?! HOW does YT block a basic MacOS command to quit a website?!? I have found if I open a video in another tab, I can kill it by closing the tab. How the effin' eff are they doing that?!?

The average American spends around $230 a month on subscriptions. Take a look and cancel what you can. It's a nice raise.
Price increases for most services will increase, is MR going to be constantly posting these.

My utility services also increase, I don’t see MR posting about it.

Still mad they got rid of the free premium with Google music years ago. I may have to switch Verizon plans to get it for $10

Firstly, stop the madness and sponsor block FTW.

Secondly, what’s the percentage share split that YouTube gives to creators?

Thirdly, when does YouTube get classified as a gatekeeper and subject to stricter rules and regulations so they can’t just keep boiling the frog?
