Yes it would be but, including an Ad Free Video Service, Full Access to Google Play Music and audio play in background makes Apple Music look pretty pitiful now for the same price.
Google saw the writing on the wall with connect and its video capability. I noticed several shared videos on Facebook yesterday that were from connect. They see where apple is headed and is trying to head them off. The android app is coming in a few weeks.

iOS 10 feature methinks...

That's fine, my adblocker (uBlock) does a great job of blocking literally hundreds of ads on those...less than legit streaming websites, so it can handle YT easily.

Is there any way to block ads playing on the official iOS YouTube app?

We shall see how this will play out. Google has the resources to lose for a few years to get the market share and grow more original contents that are worth subscribing for.

But I won't pay to watch Youtube.

Ok so Apple Music, Netflix, Hulu, and many others program that's out there charging monthly. Now YouTube red!! No thanks. Got enough bills as it is!!

Is this the reason why YouTube ads is getting intrusive? I bet it will be more intrusive to force people pay.

The tubex app already gets past ads and has background playback. You just need to deal with an ad ribbon at the bottom of the screen (not in full screen video). And it's free. Hmm... Kinda feel like YouTube Red isn't worth it

I read that along with the ad-free videos, you also get ad-free google music as well.
I wouldn't give Google a dime for any of it, personally.

To clarify, is it $12.99 if you purchase via the app store or just to use it on an ios device?
That will make a huge difference.

I was wondering this also. If it is cross-platform then how do they handle people like me who use youtube on iOS, android, pc, and mac? If I sign up on a PC and then go to my iPhone am I going to be asked to pay another $2.99 at some point?

10.00 a month?!? like every month. Are they crazy? I would have to think about 10-15 dollars per year.. maybe I would do that...maybe.

I'm guessing pay-for-backgrounding means we're never getting picture-in-picture support?

So now more and more exclusives behind the paywall (say a new music video from Demi Lovato) and/or more and more ads for non-paying users. Great...

So here we are: a service that is filled to the brim with ads decides to offer an ad-free alternative and people complain. This is exactly what web hosts are worried about when advertising revenue diminishes and people say they don’t like ads. This seems like a reasonable price to me, considering what you pay for Apple Music, plus the fact that it costs a lot more bandwidth to stream HD (and even 4K) video. Add to that TV programmes and you have a reasonable price, in my opinion.

Um, No.. just no.
I pay less than this for all the streaming I want on Netflix, with no ads either. And I get HIGH QUALITY, BIG BUDGET content there. Nearly ALL of youtube is user generated. Youtube pays next to nothing for this content, where as netflix pays for the content, pays to CREATE the great content they win awards for, AND all the streaming it takes to get it to me. Youtube pretty much only has to cover the streaming costs, and they want more money for it than Netflix!!! That is just wrong. I'd consider it at a $3-$4 price point, but $13 for iOS is F---ing rediculous.

Yes, they are crazy. They want more money per month than Netflix and they don't have any premium content like Netflix has. No one's paying $13 a month for make up tips from a 13 year old.

Surprised anyone uses YouTube. The content on it is mostly garbage. It's hard trying to find actual legit content you want like Official Music Videos or what not. So much stupid crap on it which makes it not worth the hassle and I'm talking about the free version. Paying monthly for low quality content because you don't want to see ads is absolutely insane.

Not sure if people will know or care (on this forum) but what if you own a iPhone 6S, Nexus 6P, iPad Air 2, Nexus 7 and multiple PC's. Does the service work under your Google account or is it per device?

Sorry but I'm not some Android/iOS hater. I just love tech.

Edit:

I just spoke to youtube support about cost and cross platform use.

I have a iPhone 6S, iPad Air 2, Nexus 7 and PC's. I also plan on buying a Nexus 6P.
I see that the iOS app it's going to cost $12.99. Does that cover all my devices under my single account sign in?
I would potentially be switching back and forth between all these devices.
I could us the iPhone 6s during work while using the Nexus 6P at home.

Great, nice to know you have different devices you can choose from, to access YouTube.

And that just my account. My family has a mix of Android and Apple.
But I'm just worried about my account.

You can definitely use your devices for streaming under 1 single account, however, you will not be able to stream videos on these devices at the same time as it will prompt an error 'unusual account activity'.
YouTube Red currently costs $12.99 instead of $9.99 on iOS to cover the fee charged by Apple for App Store purchases. If you purchase directly on the YouTube mobile site instead of through the App Store, you can still get the advertised $9.99 price on any device.

So I will have the option of purchasing the subscription from youtube directly bypassing Apple store.
So when I sign into the app on iOS it will see that I have an active subscription.

Yes, you can bypass the Apple Store by purchasing it thru your browser.

Ok, that part was not clear. I'm surprised that's even an option to pay through the App store if you're going to be charged 30% more. Maybe if you have some gift cards/credit.
So when I sign up on youtube.com that will be a recurring charge? Then I can sign into may account from any device be it Android or Apple.
Or I can just sign up from my Android device and enjoy the service from my iDevices.

Apple takes 30% of any in-app purchase, this is the reason why there's a difference in the price when you buy it on your Iphone.
You can still enjoy YouTube Red features as long as you are signed in to your YouTube account, on any device.
Yes, this will be a recurring charge.

I think I'm set. I will just sign up via youtube.com or Android device and use service on my iPhone. Which ever mood I'm in.

This will be launched on October 28.
Isn't this awesome, you can enjoy the features on all videos!
That's right, just make the purchase on either android or browser, so you can get it for $9.99.

I will be looking forward to it. Having the music subscription added makes it a better value than Apple music.

This makes no sense. The average / mainstream individual will not jump on this at all.

The YouTube app Apple used in the earlier iOS's was dope. They should of left the iOS version to Apple.

Wow talk about greed.

First of all they call the product YouTube red which made me think it was a product red and a portion of the money would be donated to fight HIV.

Then they charge iOS users more because Apple charges an in app purchase tax? That sounds like a problem between the two companies. Why should the end user have to suffer because Apple taxes the company selling the product more than they like?

Pass. Everyone wants you to subscribe to something. TV Stations, music, youtube, netflix, hulu, microsoft office. It is getting unbearable.
