Interesting but I will never give Google my money, have an account with them or use their services.
Here here. You are a wise man. I do the same. Never will I pay google money for anything. google already have my data from their data mining of who sees their advertising. google is selling this data and nothing I can do about it. google is thus already making money off me. I'm surely not allowing google to make even more money off me.

Wow talk about greed.

First of all they call the product YouTube red which made me think it was a product red and a portion of the money would be donated to fight HIV.

Then they charge iOS users more because Apple charges an in app purchase tax? That sounds like a problem between the two companies. Why should the end user have to suffer because Apple taxes the company selling the product more than they like?

1. Apple music cost $10, Youtube red and Google music is $10.

2. You don't need to pay via Apple store. Just pay on youtube.com. Even Engadget confirmed this.

1. I know the price of Apple Music.

2. Google pricing on iOS shows how greedy the company is. They want 100% profit so they increase the price. Apple is helping you put your product out there by featuring it on the store which a huge percentage of your customers will come from and you don't want to pay a service fee so you charge the end user more money to make up for the service fee?

3. This is clearly a company that cares more about profit than they do about their customers.

Is Google insane? For most of the crap on YouTube, you'd have to pay me to watch it. By my calculations, to replace that $100.00/mo cable bundle you need to spend about $175.00/mo to break free of it. Good luck guys!

It's coming. Hollywood needs ads to make their billions. They *will* have laws passed requiring you to experience advertisement if they can find no other way.

Apple allows ad blockers on the safari extensions page and App Store. As long as it's not illegal, I'm taking advantage of it.

With Adblock it doesn't give you access to Google Play Music which is a competitor to Apple Music but available on iOS & Android.

So for 9.99 you get Ad Free Video AND a Full Streaming Music Service.

It's a no brainer.

Unless you're using Spotify and already have a huge library saved up :p

Yeah, no thanks. I can get everything (background play, no ads, saving offline) with a jailbreak on iOS and some browser extensions on desktop.

Don't need Google Play either, Apple Music is way better.

You don't even need to jailbreak. There are apps that does this for free.

I'm not sure if you understand. If you don't want to pay $13 then just bypass Apple and pay on YouTube.com. Only a sucker would pay more. At $10 it's a better value than Apple Music as you're getting Google Music as well. Anything Apple/tech related is on YouTube anyway. Remember that when you watch the next Apple product review.
As much as some of you guys hate Google everybody watches YouTube once in a while. I watched tons of video before buying my iPhone and iPad. I even learned how to fix my car, central air conditioner, computer and even watched medical procedures before having it done on me. I even learned to jailbreak and replace my iPhone battery. Because I save money watching YouTube it's a no brainier.

So many comments I've read in this thread are like yours: so focused on the payment, method of payment, or the pros/cons of Google Music. What people don't seem to realize is that this is way more than an attempt for Google to squeeze an extra few bucks out of people directly in return for some perception of excellent service. This is probably the most obvious attempt yet from Google at pinpointing peoples' innermost workings.

People are getting more and more savvy at blocking tracking of their web habits. A few times a day I take the time to clear my browser cache and delete the few cookies I allow to accumulate on those rare occasions I turn cookies on for site functionality. I also use tracker-blocking software. A lot of people go way farther than my admittedly uneven attempts, and Google knows they're missing out on information, valuable information they can use to zero in on what goes on between peoples' ears. Thats missed ad money for them in the short term, and another missed opportunity towards their long term goals.

Now they come up with this brilliant plan. They've saturated most all videos with front-load ads. Now you can register for an account, pay a fee with your ever-present credit card, no more ads. Now they have absolute verification of who you are instead of just an IP address and some spotty tracked browsing, and can tie some incredibly revealing information to you. People who sign up for this are paying Google to build an incredibly detailed portrait of themselves.

Watch now as Google, who were masters of building hype in the early days (remember how people fought to get Gmail "invites"?) will eventually offer ways to get steep discounts or possibly even free Youtube accounts on the market. They'll create a whole ecosystem of people who will fight for the privilege to give up more of their info.

I do understand but that's besides the point I'm trying to make. Also there will be hundreds or thousands of people out there who don't understand you can bypass and skip the fee using this method.

I love some of the comments. Where are the people who have constantly complained that they would pay for a version of free apps to remove ads?

Some in this thread keeping eluding to the fact that they wouldn't pay this price for an ad-free youtube. But the "package" is more than that. Some people right now are already paying 9.99 for Google Play Music - so this is basically the same but also provides an ad-free experience on youtube and upcoming original content. I don't think this will get people to switch from Apple Music - but for those undecided between AM and Google Play Music - it's an extra incentive/bonus

Is Apple greedy when they adjust the pricing of their products in other countries to ensure that they make the same profit? And Google is a business. Why shouldn't they try to maximize profits. Just like Apple, they have investors to answer to. You think because Apple is "helping" put the product out there they deserve 30%?

Has anyone confirmed or not if you pay for the subscription over the web if (on iOS) you still need to pay 12.99. Or is that ONLY if you subscribe through the app. Because if it's the former - no brainer - sign up online.

But you fail to realize that Google is also giving you access to a music subscription plan. When compared to Apple Music Google is a clear winner with this package deal. If you're not interested in music then yes; there's other methods and you can keep it moving.
And it's not my fault if people are not wise enough to know that it's cheaper to pay on YouTube.com vs paying through Apple. But then again Apple users like myself pay an extra $100 for a 64GB iPhone because Apple refuses to bump up capacity when 4K video and live pictures take up more than twice the storage. So please don't paint Apple as greed free. If Google can offer a $500 32GB flagship with specs galore Apple should be able to offer 32GB in a $650 phone. No reason but pure greed.

The reason Apple adjust prices in other countries has nothing to do with making "the same profit"

The value of currency, taxes included in cost, cost of living plus probably a dozen more reasons are different in other countries so the prices of products sold will not always be a direct conversion of what we pay here in the US.

You say sign up online as if it were that easy for everyone to understand. Some people only buy through the App Store for the simple fact that it's easier and they may not know how to navigate to an external website to sign up. It sounds very easy for us but not everyone is savvy and know how to do these things.

It's been confirmed that you can pay the $10 on YouTube.com and use it on iOS. The service will be good on any device under a single log in. That was also my concern because I own multiple devices. People here are making a big deal over nothing.

I assumed so but didn't want to state it. Thanks for clarifying. I agree. Mountains out of molehills. Further - I find it funny that some posters really want to imply that Apple isn't as profit-minded as Google.

I do realize music is included in the price, and the service isn't what I'm arguing about. It's the way Google handles the pricing I have an issue with. In no way I compared this to Apple Music because I didn't want to turn this into an Apple Music vs YouTube red war, yet here you are off topic saying Google is a clear winner between the two services.

You then go on to talk about the phones and pricing vs storage and then insult people by saying "And it's not my fault if people are not wise enough to know that it's cheaper to pay on YouTube.com vs paying through Apple" As you do not know everything there is to know in this world, there would many things you do not know either, but getting into that would be a different debate.

You've completely lost perspective of the conversation.

I don't think he has. It seems that Apple, on these forums (and understandably given the audience) gets a "free pass" when it comes to price and value. Also when it comes to the intelligence level of its users.

Personally, whenever I buy something, I usually check around to see if I'm getting the best deal. I know other people just go for convenience. Ultimately, a consumer should educate themselves on what they are buying. Just like a consumer should learn how to operate their devices, read EULAs, their phone contracts, etc. Clearly this doesn't happen - but I would hardly fault Google for anything remotely resembling a money-grab for their pricing structure.

$10 per month? Are they crazy? Are they promising any original content?
The sad part is, they are going to up the ante on ads to get you to switch.
+1, I have a feeling that's going to happen. I just hope that they don't start making it compulsory to view the entire length of an ad before viewing a video or introduce more ads mid-way through videos.

$9.99 seems way too steep and it's becoming quite annoying how many subscription services we now have available. Netflix, Apple Music, Spotify, Hulu, Office 365, Adobe 365, Google Drive, iCloud... Add up all these services and we'll soon be on par with gas and electricity costs.

Yes. If you are saying it's expensive to pay 9.99 to remove ads from YouTube (exclusively) - then I would agree with you. However, the package you get isn't just removing ads. And who says you have to subscribe to any/all of the services provided. Now Office/Adobe I totally get and have the same frustrations. However everything else is entertainment pretty much. Personally, we cut the cord a few years back. I save 1200 a year by doing so. With Netflix and Google Play music - you can reduce that by about $200. Still a large savings. A movie in NYC these days cost $15+ per person. It's all perspective on what you value.

How ignorant can you guys really be? Which part of some people just don't know how to you guys do not understand? It really isn't that hard to grasp for us but other people, something like browsing around on the Internet and signing up for services on other websites will seem exceedingly difficult!

I will stray off topic to say I pay all my bills online and do electronic billing, however my father receives all his bills and pays all his bills the old fashion way by mail. He is 64 years old and retired, he just does not understand or remember how to do these things online, he just cannot grasp it. I cannot blame him or say he isn't smart for not knowing how to do something so simple. He has an iPod and iPad and knows how to buy things through the App Store because it is easy to use and he understands it. However he can do just about anything in the house. He just recently renovated the first floor apartment by himself. New windows, floors, kitchen cabinets and bathroom completely gutted and rebuilt. He is good at that not computers and online stuff.

He doesn't blame other people for having to pay contractors to do the same thing he can do. He understands that not everyone can pick up a book about these things, read it and understand how to do it as he did since he was a young man.

You guys should be mindful that peoples learning and understanding is not the same especially if they're older.

Google is exploiting the fact that some people will not know how to sign up on the web from their computer. They want advertising from the App Store with out paying rent so they increase the price to compensate. The fee Apple charges is simply rent and only for apps that makes a profit.

You completely misunderstood me. I'm not really arguing that issue. Google isn't exploiting anything. Google wants 'advertising' in the appstore? No - they want to make their App available to iOS members. Unfortunately, unless you're jailbroken, Google can't offer you their app with a sideloading option.

And I would have less of a problem with Apple charging a ONE time 30%. However, Apple wants to take 30% each month. After the customer has been acquired, why should Google have to continue to pay Apple. Isn't that Apple being profit driven? A good chunk of apps are less than 9.99. Apple gets a one time 30% on those purchases. Why do you feel that they are entitled to get 30% each month?
