Why doesn't MacRumors also posts the Linus Tech Tips video?

He starts right at the beginning by calling out MacRumors as a pro-Apple blog that spins his narrative.

Is that true?

Hoped that MacRumors editors had learned the lesson about YouTubers right now, but looks like they didn't.

Never.

As long as these YouTubers keep receiving money from Apple competitors, and keep generating buzz == views == money == reach == interest from sponsors == more money.
Slow down....these YouTubers are the same folks Apple is seeding test devices to. See, MKBHD and Jonathon Morrison with the iMac Pro (and others) and a whole BUNCH of YouTubers for the iPhone X (so much so that Gruber went bananas YouTubers were getting a review model before him).

The point is Apple uses YouTubers to generate buzz as well and often times those YouTubers are sponsored by Apple competitors (or industry competitors).

Finally, the fact a competitor sponsors a video does not automatically mean the video is crap and untrustworthy. That's an incredibly cynical and angry view. View the video as an informed and perhaps suspicious consumer, but never solely make up your mind based on who sponsored the video. That's just lazy.

LinusTechTips has like 10 million subs, and their videos are less than 1M views...

Seems legit.

And YouTube keeps posting that BS in front of me, I already disliked, reported and selected that I don't want nothing about that.

No use, YouTube keeps pushing it.

The same can be said about EverythingApplePro, Tailosive, MKBHD, etc. etc. etc.

Just because I'm interested in technology, doesn't mean I'm interested in that BS.
Looks like somebody doesn’t know how youtube works.

People don't want to use their heads. They want an excuse to not buy a 15" MBP. YouTubers use their heads and work out by giving them what they want.

Which "facts" The ones he just made up?

I'm all about having a discussion, but if you don't point out which statements of his you believe are false, there's no basis for one. What do you find dishonest and/or incorrect about his video(s)?

Isn't the entire point of the "turbo boost" on these Intel CPUs to allow the CPU to run at a higher than rated clock speed for shorter periods, then throttle down to the "regular" speed once the thermal threshold is reached?

IE, it's working as designed?

The 8950HK turbos to 4.8Ghz but has a base frequency of 2.9Ghz.

If it can't run indefinitely at 2.9Ghz then it's not working as intended. In the video, the CPU was averaging 2.2Ghz.

That is not acceptable.

As others have noted, this is not "just an Apple thing". We have "Ultrabook" Lenovos and Dells with i7's that run their fans at full RPM a fair bit of the time. Heck, even the Dell 7500 tanks will spin up if the CPU or GPU is run hard so it's not always a case of being "too thin".

If anything, Apple using aluminum chassis might even help compared to the plastic found in most other OEM PCs.

The thing is these MacBooks were designed for quad core i7s not hexacore i9s. I think this situation is similar to what happened with the 2011 MacBook Pros that had the Core 2 Quads and discrete GPUs. They had originally been designed for the Core 2 Duos. I think the extra heat from the CPUs was what caused the Radeons to keep failing in those.

My late 2011 15” i7 2.4 always ran at about the 160F mark under moderate load until the thermal paste was replaced. Even after, it still ran low 150’s with occasional spikes into the 190-210F range when immediately calling on all 4 cores (8 threads) to perform a task.

That box died of GPU failure at the 6 year mark and outside of the GPU extended replacement program. I completely blame heat as this box was in immaculate physical condition.

Apparently not.
Dave Lee this afternoon shared a new video on the Core i9 MacBook Pro he purchased, and according to his testing, the new machine is unable to maintain even its base clock speed after just a short time doing processor intensive work like video editing.

Nice rebutal...

These YouTubers are EXACTLY the ones that Apple is NOT sending them the devices.

That's why they criticize Apple. Apple doesn't give them devices, they cry about it. Apple doesn't put them on their advertisements (like Casey Neistat) like Samsung does? They sh_t on Apple.

Just like you are seeing.

As said in the article, it has trouble even reaching the "regular" speed once throttled.

The claim being presented is that the computer cannot even maintain "regular" clock speeds. The thermal profile is such that the CPU has to throttle below the advertised clock speed just to stay below the threshold.

For starters, he only talks about Apple.

Why he is not making a video for... let's say... Microsoft not updating the Surface Studio? Which is terribly outdated, even compared to the 2017 iMac which will certainly be updated soon?

This problem has been around since at least my computer was built. Try running Intel Power Gadget and you'll see that the CPU rarely, if ever can sustain full turbo boost speed under load. On a bad day in a warm room the computer actually throttled down to 800MHz. God forbid if I tax the graphics card too...

This is the penalty we pay to have small, quiet computers. There's a reason why Lenovo P series workstations and gaming laptops are thick.... airflow means everything.

TurboBoost should boost the base frequency (2.8GHz) to up to 4.8GHz if the temps are below a certain threesold. The problem here is throttling, the MacBook allegedly can’t keep even the base frequency of 2.8GHz and goes as low as 2.2GHz.

For now I would wait before critizicing this issue. We don’t know the ambient temp where this youtuber tested it (we’re in the middle of summer... my own MacBook Pro 2015 might throttle now although it usually doesn’t for most of the year). Another factor could be GPU, I don’t know if Premiere uses it but if it does then maybe the system does throttle when using BOTH the CPU and GPU intensively... this is obviously would not be optimal but doesn’t mean the i9 is useless, many computations are exclusively CPU dependant. And there is some room for improvement for updates by increasing the fan speed under load to prevent throttling (the fans don’t reach their max speed even if throttling kicks in, in most Macs at least).

Because he's discussing the new MacBook Pro... not the Microsoft Surface. Seems self explanatory.

You should rewatch the video... you clearly missed the part where he shows the software which lays out how much the new MBP is being throttled due to heat issues.

6.371M subs. About a video per day, each with 1M views. That's totally reasonable. He has nothing to do with YouTube's suggestion algo.

Not answering my post.

Why doesn't he make video about Microsoft outdated computers too?

He's anti-Apple, no doubt.

For what? I already know him for a long time.

ARM chips can’t come fast enough. I really hope Apple can make their A series chip work in their computers. Sounds like Intel can’t hang in the big leagues.

That or AMD. AMD are pushing out 48 core Zen 2 (not that these are relevant to MacBooks. Just demonstrating the gap between the comopanies at the moment) on Global Foundries 7nm* for sampling shortly, for launch in early 2019. Meanwhile Intel have struggled to push out a 2 core 10nm in any volumes larger than “look guys we did it” numbers. They are failing so hard right now, just as AMD are hitting their stride.

Before someone rushes into tell me that Intel’s 10nm is similar to GF’s 7nm, I know.

I don't think so, and very few of his videos are 1M views.

Doesn't really matter, as they buy videos, and YouTube is okay with that.

Also, hating on Apple is easy and is guaranteed views and subscribers and money.

Denial is not just a river in Egypt.

As he says in the video, he is an Apple guy through and through. He prefers the platform, the OS, even the look of the hardware. Why in the world we he make a video about a platform and OS he cares nothing for?
