Not answering my post. Why doesn't he make video about Microsoft outdated computers too? He's anti-Apple, no doubt.

For what? I already know him for a long time.

Whether someone is pro-something or anti-something, it doesn't change the information being presented. Facts are facts. If a laptop chassis isn't modified/adjusted to better ventilate a warmer-running CPU, the performance is going to degrade. That's not a statement that you can argue, it's just true. It doesn't matter if the guy has a grudge against Apple or not.

For starters, he only talks about Apple.

Why he is not making a video for... let's say... Microsoft not updating the Surface Studio? Which is terribly outdated, even compared to the 2017 iMac which will certainly be updated soon?

I've been watching Dave2D since he had only 300k subs. He is NOT an Apple hater. In fact his current smartphone is the iPhone X and he even says in this video that he likes Apple products. He is just pointing out the facts in this video, which does not make him a hater. Stop your irrational defense mechanism please. He has tons of videos criticizing windows PCs too.

I'm talking about Intel failing at shrinking the die. If these were 10nm parts this probably would not be happening! This is what the 4th 14nm gen? Broadwell, Skylake, Kaby Lake, Coffee Lake. They've hit a road block.

I hope Cannon Lake and Ice Lake arrive sooner than later.

And if Intel shrunk the die then Apple would have made the chasis even thinner to take advantage of it.

Hasn't this been an age-old problem? I've seen YouTubers show how to redo the thermal paste on other MacBooks to get better cooling/performance.

Edit: I use iStat Menus to permanently keep my late 2013 13" rMBP at max fan speed, and doing light activities I frequently see core CPU temps up to 187. Have seen it go up to 212 F.

I actually used an infrared thermometer on my powerbrick the other day that gets super hot. It was 169 F.
Heating is the one thing I dislike about my MacBook Pro 13" w/TB 2016. It gets super hot when I open up google maps alone... it get's to 70 degree Celsius (158 F) just like that, with nothing else running in the background. To compensate I've been forced to use iStat menus pro to set the fans to max speed ~6500RPM. Which over the course of a few minutes gets the CPU down to around 44 degrees C (111 F) whilst still using google maps.

I don't think so, and very few of his videos are 1M views.

Doesn't really matter, as they buy videos, and YouTube is okay with that.
Even with 100K videos per video, if he's posting like 4 videos a week, that's enough views per time unit to make 7M subs reasonable. Most popular YouTubers post way less frequently.

Also, it's not in Google's interest to fake views. They can't have good relations with advertisers with the abysmal clickthrough rate that would result from faking views.

Reminds me of the long-awaited and never released PowerBook G5.

Which is why I use Apple Maps instead of Google. Sure, Apple's at fault for making crappy cooling. So is Google for making crappy software.

Not long enough, I guess.

Here's a video of him discussing thermal limitations on the Dell XPS 15, a Windows PC. This is the exact same criticism he had for the Macbook Pro today, so how can he be hating on Apple? The guy is being as unbiased as he can.

ThrottleGate.

Oh we had that already

Should be ThrottleGate with possibility of an addition of KeyboardGate? More heat, more chance for other components to have problems. More profits for Apple due to repairing and Apple Care.

People somehow thinking Apple will build a higher end spec'd out machine that doesn't have heat issues.

Like what company are you thinking this is? They have done this for what? A decade or more?

So folks you are building your own expectations up and then letting yourself down.

Like, "dang a McDonalds Double Quarter Pounder tastes good. But "hey everybody that's what I want to buy. But I don't want it to have high carbs. I don't want it to have high fat. I don't want it to have high calories."
Well then you may need to find a different burger. Hopefully the bad analogy makes it.

and why are you guys surprised. apple didn't redesign the chassis, and the thing was alrdy getting toasty from a 4 core, how do you think a 6 core is gonna manage.

Actually, both CPUs should be effectively the SAME. Both are rated at 45 TDP. (that is not the watts used, but the average power in watts that the processor dissipates when operating at Base Frequency).

I've been following this closely for months, and it's incredibly widespread on the PC side. All the OEMs did about what Apple did: dump these new, hotter CPUs into existing designs, many of which were already past their thermal limits with the older, cooler CPUs.

The advent of genuinely fast mobile GPUs like the 1070 and 1080 and genuinely fast mobile CPUs like these 8th gens had just about convinced me it was time to retire my still-capable 4-year-old desktop system for something more portable, but mostly what I've read is one horror story after another about repasting and undervolting and … it's just not worth it to me.

Maybe in another generation or two they'll figure out how to make some machines that are genuinely fast and capable that won't melt into a puddle of slag if you try to use them to their full potential.

That is clearly not the case. Go read some gaming notebook forums. A lot of companies dumped these 6-core CPU's into their old Skylake / Kaby Lake chassis designs with very poor results.

Same TDP or not, Coffee Lake runs hotter than Kaby Lake.

This guy is no joke. He did the same on the new Dell XPS 15 with the i9 just a few days ago. It throttles as well but far less, because it is also "thin and light".

I am not sure who thinks stuffing this kind of CPU in a "thin and light" is a good idea. If you want a i9 because of its CPU power in a laptop you better off with "thick and heavy" but Apple does not offer that option. Lenovo Thinkpad P52 uses this same CPU and I bet it never throttles. It is thicker 17inch laptop and anyone needing that kind of CPU power should not mind.

No since there is a physical limit to how small these can be to accommodate the USB-C ports, the battery and the fans on the logic board.

We should all wait a little more before passing judgement on these machines. We still don't know if these 3rd gen keyboards are immune from debris and why don't have a sample large enough to know how well these machines perform under heavy load. What we have here are just a couple of anecdotes.

As long as these YouTubers keep receiving money from Apple competitors, and keep generating buzz == views == money == reach == interest from sponsors == more money.

I'm not sure what you're talking about. Dave2D bashes all kinds of Windows/Android/Chromebook products all the time, and I've seen him praise Apple in many videos for build quality and support. He is straight forward with his disclaimers when reviewing products as to whether he was sent a demo unit etc. Many people consider him a trustworthy and non-biased source of tech information.

I seriously doubt he's going to jeopardize his reputation by faking the real-time test results that we see in the video (if that's what you're insinuating). I'm sure lots of other people will now try to reproduce the tests, so we can wait and see if they have similar results. If so, this is pretty damning for the i9 mac pro.

im pretty dumb to go for the i9 assuming that Apple had it figured out in terms of heat dissipation in general.
