they would not need to add an extra antenna in the iPod Touch. It already has almost if not all the needed hardware to have an FM tuner in it. It mostly lacks the software side of things.

I will say it nice of Microsoft to add one and apple should of added a freaken simple FM turner to the iPod 5+ years again and now they really are lagging behind. That was my biggest complaint about the iPod is no FM tuner. It is some times just nice to listen to the radio instead of my own personal library.
I know you have a use for one, but honestly, I don't really have a use for an fm tuner. I live in the LA area where there are no good FM stations. Except, of course, for NPR... and, as the ads say, "There's an app for that..."

I trust apple to have done the maths.

it would have looked at the cost of development and space, then compared that to the market.

It must be unbelievably tight to fit so much in such a small form, and if it didn't think the demand was that great - it would have concentrated its efforts elsewhere.

Personally - if i needed a radio - and an app wouldn't do, I would get a miniature one from the poundshop.

If its a dealbreaker - I am sure apple will accept you look elsewhere.

Maybe they will include it - who knows?

Now, Digital radio - that might be something new.

Then digital telly.. but that will be a few years away at least

lol! That's why people were downgrading to XP?

No, that would be corporations with XP dependent applications. Vista was a mess when released - as was Leopard - but those issues were sorted over a year ago.

Of course if you have details of the number of consumer XP downgrades as a percentage of sales I'll be happy to discuss them with you.

"The Microsoft phone, code-named "Pink," is expected to appear by 2010 and would extend the tech giant's Windows Mobile cellphone operating system, according to the Journal."

Would it make sense to develop a whole new form and OS for a M$ phone?

Or is this new zune going to become a zPhone in the near future?

The code-name intriguing though - will we finally see the Pink Phone from eXistenZ? :D

How many times did the guy tap on the screen, and nothing happened, and he had to tap again to make it work?

Also, is there multi-touch or not? He didn't seem to show it, especially while looking at photos, and you'd think that would be a great opportunity to show it off.

So Microsoft makes their rotation animation speed a little higher, and that's all it takes for people to say "Wow, that's fast!"? Yet it took a good second or two lag to get to the radio screen, with no indication that it's doing something.

I noticed the same thing; definately laggy in a lot of places and no multi-touch! The lag would annoy the hell out of me... I have beta 3 on my iphone and that very occassionaly lags and i really get annoyed LOL - silly really because it's beta software and i guess it just shows how used i am to the release OS on the iphone not letting me down in that department... It's a good attempt my microsoft, but there are a hell of a lot of good attempts by most people to copy the iphone and when you actually play with them they really let you down and just demonstrate how impressive the iphone user interaction is...

April 2009:
Microsoft will let users downgrade from Windows 7 all the way to XP, a source at HP claims. That means you’ll still be able to get the 8 year old Windows XP on new netbooks even after Windows 7 launches.
AppleInsider’s source says HP has cut a deal with Microsoft to continue selling Windows XP on new PCs until April 30th 2010. Any new PCs will ship with Windows 7, but you’ll be able to buy Microsoft’s older OS Windows XP with it until that date.

Nope. Just personal experience. Three of my friends borrowed my old xp disk to "downgrade" their vista machines. Because of crashes and networking problems. As for me, I upgraded to Leopard the day it came out and never had a problem. As for sales data, and all that corporate crap. Nope, don't have any. And I' don't want to waste my time looking for it.

Needless to say - Vista will best be forgotten.

It hadn't managed 23% of the market share by february and XP is still running on 63%.

Most now will wait for Windows 7. And I can't see local gov switching en masse for a while yet - not with 4-year replacement contracts being increased to 5.

I do know that a whole class of consumer PC laptops are still being sold with XP on them and that has helped keep the market afloat.

Obviously some people would say that is choice - and maybe it is or maybe they were forced into it but I think most people are waiting for 7

what would we think if the zune gets a camera and phone?

the iphone evolved from the ipod after all, and M$ is looking for a phone product....

As for being able to play back 720p through an hdmi cable? Who really wants to waste 2GB per hour of video for the off chance that they might play it on a big screen?

While I agree (I'm very unlikely to store an HD video on any portable device), start off with all those 6-10 megapixel images our cameras take that will at least get 1080p treatment.

Will it make a difference?

Even the iphone's basic 2mp camera takes images 1600 x 1200 pixels.

So basically you got nothin' except your own ill informed prejudices?

OK.

Yes? What's your point? Buyers have been able to downgrade to previous versions of Windows in every release I can remember. You might also want to look at the conditions HP impose on those sales and then refer to their product material for the transfer from NT/2000 to XP because it's not that different.

Which is not to say that Vista hasn't been a failure perceptually because it has. That, however, has no bearing on its suitability as an OS which is actually very good.

Then its a pity most people will never actually get to use it.

Its not going to make much headway from 23% with everyone saying how good win 7 will be when it launches in 5 months time.

It will soon be the forgotten OS, like ME.

I'm not sure why the Zune and MS fans posting here are so uptight about legitimate doubts regarding this device. The video really doesn't demo much of anything, other than the Zune HD having a touchscreen, a different GUI, and "larger than iPhone" image thumbnails.

That's supposed to immediately convince people it's on par or better than products that have been in consumers hands for two years? Seriously, that is extremely irrational, even when you ignore that Apple hasn't unveiled the refresh for iPhone and iPod Touch that will be on the market later this year.

To me, the most interesting thing about the Zune HD is the HD output feature. That by itself is not a deal breaker vs. the Touch, and it doesn't seem like much of a hurdle for Apple to add similar capability if warranted.

If you are trying to equate the level of "mess" in regard to Leopard when released to the sheer disaster of Vista when it was released, you are comparing a relatively small hill to a substantially large mountain. Speaking of the two in the same breath does not make their levels of initial "readiness" and functionality comparable, by any means.

Yeah, because between now and the fall we will see incredible technological achievements like 1080p playback on postage stamp sized screens, 2TB flash storage and monkeys that actually fly out of people's b***s..

I'm a fanboy too, but it's time people take of their apple shaped glasses and just value the Zune HD from an (at least somewhat) objective viewpoint.

You're right, we won't see those things. But I don't remember mentioning those... My point was the specs that it touts right now will not be impressive in 6 months.

I think the challenge is that it is very difficult to value the Zune HD until we see more.

This device is just the ugliest thing I have ever seen in my opinion. I wouldn't even take one if M$ gave it to me for free. They would have to pay me. Apple FTW.

Amen!

I'd seriously consider buying one. Especially if it came unlocked to any gsm provider.

its not my opinion the iPod has been out since 2001, the sony bean is UGLY because, sony even said it wasn't very stylish and I think they changed its design or may have dropped it completely. The Zune has been a failure, you only have to look at sales, most people tell me reason why zune failed is because of the way it looks and why does anyone want a brown music player??, I know you can get other colors, but still why brown in the first place

So, if I follow your logic, the Zune is really bad compared to the ipod because it sales less. Therefore, Windows Xp Vista are far better than OSX because they sell a lot more copies.

Or, do you just apply that logic when Apple wins?

We still don't know much about the Zune. It is going to be very difficult to to sell more Zunes than ipods touch. I don't care who win or who sells more. I just want better products by any company. I am not a blind fundamentalist.

All the people i know, know what is an iPod/iPhone... i asked if they ever heard of Zune and they said: "WTF? a dildo? " (In french-canadian it means "penis".)
