Also they will fail if they don't differentiate from Itunes ..... I like what someone else said here ..... WIRELESS SYNC.

I would think that implementing wireless sync would be trivial for Apple, technologically speaking except for one point: security.

Right. Because your ears are so precious and sensitive. Does your skin blister if you wear cotton instead of silk or cashmere, and your tongue burn if you drink tap water instead of Evian? Audio snobbery bores me.

It's like buying a Ferrari or some car you've always loved, then putting some thrift station gas in it. You pay all this money for a good system then have to put up with audio quality closer to a cassette tape than a CD.

I'm sure 256kbps is fine, even I would probably be hard pressed to hear much of a difference, but why buy lower quality at the same or higher price? I can say this much though, at least it isn't 128, awful.

I don't get it...

First of all what's with the M$ bashing? MS Office has been great for many Mac users and actually works. I've been using Word since version 4.0 back in the early 90's on a IIsi and worked solidly till I upgraded to a smurf. There really wasn't much choice out there for us Mac users and MS has support Office Mac since day 1.

As for iTunes, what I don't get is what is with the complaints with it? I've been using iTunes since v.1 and haven't had any issues (except with my old Rio which crashed v.8 until v.8 was updated). The interface with iTunes is simple and easy to the eyes. I look at the Zune interface and it's a lot of eye candy... IMHO. Will I install the Zune software? No because personally iTunes works great for me and does what I need it to do. However can someone explain what problems people have been having with iTunes that garner such negative comments? It works perfectly on Powermacs, maybe the issue is with Windows versions or Intel macs? Not sure so please explain...

What's funny (and a little scary) is that MS is still pushing this obvious failure. It's an answer to a question no one asked. It's quite telling about the company as a whole these days.

I have no problems at all with iTunes on my iMac - it runs smoothly, quickly and never crashes. However, on Windows it's a whole different ball-game: IMO, iTunes on windows is a huge steaming pile of crap: It's bloated, slow, unstable and doesn't follow the Windows UI design guidelines.
It also gobbles memory up like it's going out of fashion, and hammers the CPU hard enough to adversely affect the overall performance of a machine if it's playing a video.

Hahaha. I hope it's worth it to them to write all of that code for all three of their Zune/Mac users. Hahahaha.

I can add a +1 to the Zune software being far far better than iTunes.

As far as hardware, I still own the original Zune working fine, never had a problem. .

Never had any problems with my iPods. Nor have most iPod owners.

At the time I bought it for a few reasons over an iPod

Lower cost (I think 50 dollars less?) for same size .
Fair point, i am sure it is cheaper but iTunes store is much bigger.

Better screen
Disagree, I think iPods screen is good for what it needs to do. Agree to disagree.

Video playback that is actually watchable unlike on the square iPod screen

Never had difficulties with it. Having said that I use my iPad to watch movies.

Wireless sync (do iPods even have that yet? not sure)
Fair point, would be nice.

Use my iPhone for it

Better looking (white looked too girly and black just didn't do it for me, too plain)
White is girly? Perhaps it is for female users??

Customizable wallpaper or whatever on it
why do I want a wall paper on my iPod?

Also, not huge but the Apple ear buds are crap, the ones that came with my Zune are amazing.
Fair point I use Bose headphones anyway.

The iPod touch was the first iPod to even come close to my Zune imo, and by then there were newer Zunes and the iPod wasn't in the same price bracket.

I can't speak to Zune HD vs iPod touch now, but using both iTunes and the Zune software extensively, the Zune software is far superior. Is iTunes marketplace tracks still only 128 Kbps or did they finally fix that? That was a pretty big one as well, anything below 320 MP3 isn't going on my system.

I did a test with iPod and a Zune with some people to check the difference, Ipod was considered the best sound.

buy a Mac, end of your iTunes problems. When I was still in Windows country iTunes was one of the few programms which didn't crash.

I've got a Mac (which is why I said it runs fine on my iMac), but I still have some Windows machines (2008 R2 server running Sharepoint and SQL Server, and a Windows 7 laptop running as a "media server")

they have three successful products (windows, office and that game console). organisational wise a huge structure and no clear leadership. Have you ever seen their offices in Seattle?? It's massive. They should concentrate to their core activities.

Not trying to sound funny or start trolling, but I have not seen a Zune for sale is a long time. I see the accessories but I have not seen an actual Zune in the box for about a year and a half. I thought they stopped selling them. Weird. But then again, Best Buy has a habit to leave their shelves empty. I would guess this is a good thing for Zune users, just surprised they took this long to make an Mac version. Well perhaps not.......

It's not that surprising because they're apparently releasing it to allow syncing with the newly announced Windows Phone 7 devices: Syncing with any Zune devices is not really the primary focus of it.

In all seriousness, if this news is true and the final product is good then it means that I would actively consider a Windows Phone 7 device. I have no real loyalty to Apple except that I absolutely refuse to work on a Windows PC so whatever devices I buy must play well with a Mac. This typically means that only Apple's own devices are considered but if Microsoft delivers the goods then I'd be perfectly happy to consider a Windows Phone 7 device if it measures up well to the likes of the iPhone and Android.

Glad to know I'm not going crazy. I did see a Yeti having tea with Bigfoot, so I thought I would see a Zune by now. Seriously, thank you for letting me know, I thought I was losing it. :)

I think that this might actually be useful for those of us who might be considering a windows 7 phone - yes we do exist!

Also bear in mind that a large part of apple's recent growth and popularity has been by converting previously windows based customers. Microsoft are a business, and as such know it'd be pretty stupid to forget that some of their customers may actually own a mac too.

This is good news in my book.

For those who are not aware, Windows Phone 7 requires Zune Software to sync with PC’s, the new version of the software is now supported in all countries that Microsoft will be selling Windows Phone 7.

MP3 is not AAC. So, 256 kbps MP3 is not 256 AAC. Even within MP3, you have different qualities of encoders producing different results.

So, 256 kbps AAC isn't necessarily lower quality than 320 kbps MP3.
Can be lower, can be higher, can be the same. It's just not something you can compare simply by the numbers.

Hope they have fixed zune software - i installed it on a PC for a giggle and it was indeed laughable as a media library system.

Wouldn't even play video content 'full screen'.

LOL @ these Apple fanboys who voted negative at this. Only in their mind that they don't want options or alternatives. I don't see Apple being as nice and released iTunes on Android or WP7. ;)
