Should continued work on 10.6.8 PowerPC and Xcode 3.2.X have its own dedicated thread?

I've been using Snow Leopard on my PowerMac G5 for the past few months, and here are the issues I've encountered:
- Bluetooth isn't working properly (it worked fine on Leopard).
- Couldn't initialize an HDD.
- iTunes crashes quite often, especially when dragging and dropping items.
- Unable to install Adobe apps or Apple Pro apps.
- Airport Extreme cannot be accessed through Finder.
- Airport Express AirPlay was working but has stopped functioning.
(Planning to do a fresh install to try again, just in case)

My system is pure vanilla, just Geforce 6600LE, two HDD (not SSD), 3,5 GB of ram

Do you have ANY FireWire devices plugged in? In my early testing, I found that this would freeze the boot, but a little further along. I would get to the beginnings of the desktop and then it would freeze. Unplugging all my Firewire devices got me past that to a full and working desktop.

This was for Sorbet Leopard specifically, but I am wondering if a similar issue may plague SL_PPC.

That is a bug specifically in “Sorbet” Leopard. There is no issue with FW devices on 10.6.8 (or 10a190). I have a few FW drives chain-linked to the Quad, everything boots fine when they are connected.

I started checking logs trying to figure out what goes wrong with the hardware (frequent KP, sometimes cannot boot at all), and while these are unrelated, is it something expected that we got no ppc slices here?

CHUD is intel only on SL. I thought @educovas had switched to using the font server from Leopard, so i’m unsure why ATSServer is throwing an error? The SL font service is also intel only as it was rewritten after Leopard, including the 10A90 version if i recall. Which version of AppleProfileFamily.kext is on the system?

This is 10.6.8_PPC_A5 image – the only change to the system I made was to kill two AHCI kexts.

@ChrisCharman @educovas Another instance of missing ppc slices in our image:

This worked fine on 10.5 and 10a190. Here it claims not to have privileges to install, though this is admin account, of course. (Using A5 image, as above.)

Hi all trying in install on a 2nd partition. Restore goes good but when restarting it give the following kernel panic. Trying to install on a PowerBook 5,4 thanks.

Disk0s5: ioctl (_ior,d ,79,4) is unsupported
Panic(cpu 0 caller 0x2a7378): “process 1 exec of /sbin/launchd failed, error no 8\n”@/sourcecache/xnu-1504.15.3/bsd/kern/kern_exec.c:3145

@educovas @ChrisCharman FWIW, my conclusion is that SDL2 Cocoa is broken on our latest (A5) image, while it works, as it was, on 10.6.8 “Nvidia” image. I cannot say yet if it also works with ATI cards with “Nvidia” image (given the current condition of my Quad, I rather avoid touching hardware unnecessarily), but it works fine with Nvidia cards. I.e., to save time I just cloned /opt/local from 10.6.8_PPC_A5 onto a newly installed 10.6.8_PPC_NVDA-PCI, and SDL2 Cocoa started working. On A5 no output whatsoever, not even simple GUI via SDL2 Cocoa. Since installations of ports are literally identical, and the same GPU, the only factor I can ascribe the breakage to is the OS image. (SDL2 with X11 works on both.)

P. S. I suggest to consider having two “release” images. As of now, I think there is no reason not to use “Nvidia” image at least with Nvidia cards (which are arguably more common also). However that image (currently available one, I mean) is outdated for other stuff, like UDP.
