I bought my 13 max knowing it was big, heavy, and square. I’m fine with it because I want the screen and battery life. It also fits into my lifestyle of using my Apple Watch to keep me from needing to check my phone all the time plus using my MacBook for bigger task I use my phone to consume content and play games. That’s why battery and screen size for me. That being said. It’s a big heavy square phone and you feel it. I get pinky fatigue when holding it and have to change it around. You feel it in your pocket. Square is not a optimal shape for holding something. There is nothing produced that is meant to be ergonomically correct that is squared. Balls, handles, steering wheels, tools, sports equipment. Apple chose fashion over function on this device and it shows. I do love my phone and the flat screen. If I used an iPad, I would be better off with the mini.
Pinky fatigue. Well said! Exactly what I’m feeling.

There is an adjustment period. I remember going from the 6 to the 6s plus and I wasn’t sure at first. After a week or so, I got used to the larger device and it was fine for me.

Yeah it’s certainly An adjustment. It’s even bigger than note ultra due to the sides even though it has a smaller screen

How do you hold it? I hold by the edges with just forefinger on back to angle. The square edges give me more secure grip. Mind you I am not a one handed user. I hold with my left hand and interact on screen with right
Two hands light grip with my right thumb navigating and then using both hands to type on the keyboard. I will use one hand when I'm on the go and I need to quickly change a song/podcast.

After nearly a full day with my max I'm totally impressed with the phone. I was hesitant re: the size but find it much more manageable than I expected. I didn't have a 5 so is my first time with the square edges. It's much easier to hold for me. I hope you all enjoy your new phones as much as I am!

I was hoping to pick one up today in pb but it seems like everyone is out of stock in the Bay Area :(

How you find the Pitaka Air case on 12 Pro Max? I hope it looks and feels nice on it!

Do you mind sharing some photos with Air case on?

Thanks
Here is a video of it on the 11 PM. It looks like this, just with flat edges.

Honestly I have mixed feelings. I like the grip it provides. I like that it's so lightweight it's like having no case at all.

I don't like the exposed buttons on the side. It makes it feel too flush with the case itself. I also miss the level of grip provided by a silicone case.

I have a cheap silicone case from Amazon coming on Monday. My guess is I'll use that instead and return the Pitaka. I'll know for sure what I'll do once I get the silicone case. I absolutely won't go caseless. The frosted back is insanely slippery IMO.

I’m continuing to love my new 12 pro max. The only thing I find it not as good as the 11 pro is that the cameras will not focus so close in macro. Try yourself taking a photo of say text in a book. You can get in closer with the 11 pro. This may be a consequence of the larger lense on the 12 Pro Max?
I don’t seem to have that issue

Coming from an 8 plus, it feels slightly bigger in hand, but the display is massive and beautiful! The bezels on my 8 plus and previous phones never bothered me before, but wow! So much more screen without them. At the notch, who cares about the notch?! The screen is so big that the notch looks like nothing!

Pretty much exactly how I feel. I still love my 8+ and I've kept it. Not parting with it. Fantastic phone and still incredibly relevant. Bezels never bothered me at all and I still prefer Touch ID. I somewhat miss the home button but I'm adjusting to life without it. It makes me laugh that some can be so uptight about the notch lol.

I have 5G turned off. All I have in my area is Nationwide 5G. LTE is definitely faster and isn't as power hungry as 5G. What really amazed me was the speed on WiFi. It absolutely screams! That is one area where the new device really shines. Some have mentioned it but most of the buzz is around the colors, design, camera and battery life. Oh yeah and the size.

@deeside81 When I made the switch to the 8+, it took a few weeks to get used to using a phone with two hands and the sheer weight of it was a change for sure. I enjoyed the larger screen and battery life from the start so I committed myself to it. This 12 PM is pushing the limits as to how large of a phone I'd carry. At the same time, when I compared the 12 Pro in the store, I realized I'd use that with two hands also so I decided why not go large and in charge. Some prefer larger, some smaller and some even smaller. Lots of good options out there this year! My advise is give yourself time with it and don't let it intimidate you. If you really don't like it, get a phone that you connect with. It's different for everyone and I think if you see them and once you get them in hand, you if it's right or not.

I’ve been using a 12 Pro for the past couple weeks, and now have the 12 Pro Max.

Honestly, I’m torn. I kinda grew to love the smaller guy. I’ve had every version of the big iPhone since the 6 Plus, so I’m used to them, but the 12PM feels chunkier and I’m not sure if I’m into it yet.

Will have to spend some time with it to see which version I want to stick with.

OK, scratch that. I’m no longer torn, just took me a minute to adjust back to the bigger phone after using the 12 Pro for a couple weeks.

100% in on the Pro Max! Typing on it is so much more pleasant, and the screen size is amazing.

I so wanted the 12 pro max but am going too wait tell next year for it has it will be a even bigger upgrade then this year was waiting on the 120hz display on the pro line and in fact if the iPhone 13 pro 6.1 have a nic camera upgrade or about the same has the iPhone 13 pro max next year I may get the iPhone 13 pro next year

but for this year I ended up getting the normal iPhone 12 in blue all so got the apple watch S6 in blue has well I could not pass up on the blue color

Just moved from an 11 pro max and yeah, it’s big. But I actually have small man hands and it feels easier to type one handed.
I’ve just put a case on it so let’s see if that changes things.

how are people that moved from the 11 to the 12 pro max finding battery life? That’s one of the reasons for the larger phone for me but I’m aware that they lowered the capacity this year!

Seems better to me. For example, after charging it overnight to 100% and using it for the last 14 hours, on Wifi and 5G, I'm at 62%, with 6 hours of usage.

Finally another person with small hands! I have very small hands too and been using the largest size phone since the 6S+. Love the 12 pro max. I don’t really feel it’s that much bigger or heavier than the 11pm like some people mentioned.
My only issue is it is weighty and bulky (thick). The overall size is not an issue at all. I use a Pop Socket and that makes a big difference and makes the Max very workable for me.

Isn’t the Apple Silicone case one of fattest cases adding extra bulk?

Yes. I could accept the extra bulk if I like the case. I guess I should have said it’s going back because it’s too slippery. Apple leather cases are the slimmest, but those too have little grip and they just don’t age well for the money.

Looks good, feels terrible. One day I might cut my hands on these sharp edges man.

That's encouraging. I always set up from new (it gives me an opportunity to clear out clutter every year and I like starting from a clean sheet) so I'm still moving stuff across from my 11 Pro Max and haven't done the SIM card move yet so my 12 Pro Max has only ever been on WiFi but right now it came off the charger at 16:37 on Friday with 100% charge, has had 5 hours 49 mins of screen on time, and is currently at 52% battery life. I obviously haven't done any coms work on it but have downloaded, installed and briefly tested 66 apps where some of the setup was problematic (still not sorted out getting my WhatsApp messages across). I've used the camera a bit but not much. My usage includes the out-of-the-box initialisation and authentication of the new device.

I'm reasonably happy with that number but at first glance it doesn't seem quite as good as yours. I'm at 10% less battery with about the same screen-on time as you (by usage I assume you mean screen on time) and you have cellular enabled whereas I don't but then again my phone has been off the charger for almost 48 hours now vs yours only 14 hours off the charger so maybe our results are somewhat consistent with each other.

I suspect that what I'm seeing is probably indicative of about the same battery life as my 11 Pro max given that once I do move the SIM card I will be locking my phone to 4G-only so hopefully I will see benefits from the 12's Qualcomm X55 modem vs the Intel one in my 11.

I’m another not-big person with not-big hands who just likes the bigger screen (and battery and telephoto). Happy that we can find something that works for us and enjoy the size more than we don’t. :)

Same. It took me until the 11 Pro Max until I finally decided to try a big phone. My eureka moment was when I realised that because of my small hands I was using my 11 Pro two handed most of the time anyway so I figured if I'm using my phone 2 handed anyway then what reduction in usability will I see with the Max size. Answer for me - none whatsoever. I can also still single-hand to do basic stuff like swipe-up to open and turning pages when I'm reading an ebook which is enough for me.

I also find I have zero problem carrying it in a front trouser pocket. If I leave the house and have a brief "did I remember my phone" moment I still have to reach down into my pocket to feel whether it is in there rather than instantly knowing "yes, there's a huge weight in my pocket so my monster phone is obviously there.

On the weight, people comparing the 12 Pro Max weight with the 11 Pro Max and complaining are frankly crazy. I just do not get it. I do get the concern for people coming from smaller phones but if you already have an 11 Pro Max then it really is a non-issue. The 12 Pro Max is 2g heavier than the 11 Pro Max. That's about 40% of the weight of a single sheet of 80gsm printer paper so if any 11 Pro Max user is worried about the weight of a 12 Pro Max then tear a piece of paper in half, sellotape it to the back of your 11 Pro Max, and see if you can still lift the phone to your ear or even manage to get it out of your pocket with all of that added weight (which will actually be an over-estimate due to using half not 40% of the sheet and the added weight of the sellotape).
good points!
