What about the macbook Air!!??

Does anybody think there will be an update too?!

Those pictures are not anything like what Apple would design or sell. Why would they so suddenly change their design language? If you like this then go buy a HP.

Also - Plastic is so much weaker and vulnerable to scratching, denting, cracking. We just heard that Apple is going to be cutting their new cases from aluminium blocks - not plastic (though I am still to be convinced that this is true)

Any new MacBook is going to be a cross between the current model and the MBA. Maybe a slightly curved edge, more rounded, the black keyboard etc. And thinner.
Plastic doesn’t dent and I can give you my signature that alu will be much more visible regarding scratches...

I do hope that that Apple has found a way to cut off the bezel in width, both the Macbook and MBA looks really fat when it's open. I still have to discover why they designed them so wide...

Aluminium is prone to scratches, but plastic has its drawbacks too. The cracking issues, chips, scratches too.

Although I feel much safer with a black MacBook than my MacBook Pro because I've already scratched some of the paint off on the wrist rest (my bloody watch did that) and the top of the lid has a few slices.

Would be nice if Apple adopted that rubber that heals itself, if it gets scratched or toren!

awesome, now the entire macbook line will have equally bad airport reception.

Sorry but this is utter myth and I don't care what anyone says. Aluminum does not block your wifi signal. Out of the 6 laptops I own my mac gets the best reception.

Sorry I have no model numbers as they are all at home in the states cept for the Apple. They are all within 2 years old.

I just wanted to ask:

Is the 13.3'' display big enough for my everyday work as a student? I'm really considering a 15.4'' Macbook Pro...

What should I do?

this probably already been answered (I am behind on this thread, decided to sleep last night).

Yes, I have a current macbook and use it for video editing, music, iphotos, iwork, office (through parallels), basically everything I use a desktop for. 15 would be nice, but I would not want to lug it around. I had a Dell XPS that had a 12 inch screen. that was a little small, but ok. Personally, they wasted so much space with the the bezel around the screen, they could've put in a larger screen and kept the same footprint.

I measured the lid one time, and they could have easily put in a 13 or squeezed a 14. Once I got my macbook, it felt so much bigger. Of course that would mean current LCD's would have to be redesigned. I took one apart and they have a thick plastic boarder for the mounting screws, inverter board, and the backlight is usually a long flourescent light across the top (or bottom). Lets hope with LED, they can squeeze more into the LCD and need less of a mounting frame.

I wonder about colors. I mean a flourescent light gives off a yellowish or soft white hue, LED is a little more blueish (I have LED landscape lights and an LED flashlight.

I'm wondering if apple will fuse the two lines into just one MacBook line.
Hoping for dedicated graphics in the 13,3" models :D

that's the dream! Once the MacBook Air came out I lost hope of that though... :(

The MBA's screen border is huge as well, and that uses LED...

I think Silver-coloured keys with Silver-coloured laptop would look too plain in my opinion. Black and Silver would look better.

That is why when I saw a white macbook with a black in-case and a black key cover, I decided to do the same. Looks so much sharper.

Here is an example (but this does not have the black in-case):

It gives the macbook some contrast instead of looking plain white on white.

Who here wants to wager that "The Spotlight Turns to Notebooks" is really just some new Spotlight feature that pulls up search related content from the "cloud" (like GENIUS) that they are adding to notebooks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!????? Think about it.... why would the light be shining from THAT corner??

...but when facing the computer, Spotlight is at the other corner  :p

Um... yuck.

Thank god you're not designing :apple:'s products. That's hideous - what, is it a friggin piano now? Looks like a mouth full of cavities.

I was hoping to find a better picture, but this will suffice, this is what I mean by the plastic mounting boarder, thus the need for a large bezel. would be nice if somehow they could eliminate that (like using silicone to hold the screen in - like your car windsheild). Only problem is good luck trying to change out an LCD yourself. getting it to seat back in evenly on the silicone would be tough - possibly why glass companies offer to fix it for free, if you have a leak.

Are Apple cutting out the iSight? Or have they built it into the screen itself, something they have been working on for a while now?

Only four days until we know for sure...

I don't know where you got the idea that they cut out the iSight! Maybe you are thinking they needed to omit the iSight in order to get the desired display ratio or to achieve a thinner or shorter dimension. Obviously, that could be the case. On the other hand, the integrated iSight presents some exciting application opportunities (some as yet unrealized) and to dump it now would kill some great opportunities. Plus, my family thinks its cool to videoconference!

Why would they can iSight?

It would make PhotoBooth totally redundant - one of their touted Leopard features.

iSight stays.

Actually, a "768 pixel" screen wouldn't be able to do either. 32x24 pixels isn't big enough for a full size OS X icon, much less a movie.

Now, 1024x768 is an entirely different matter. ;)

Talk about being rather pedantic.

The situation is that aluminium reduces the sensitivity of wireless network cards in Apple laptops.

Apple laptops have very strong wireless reception to begin with, so it's not surprising that even their aluminium products outperform your PC laptops. However, if you put a plastic Apple laptop next to a metal Apple laptop, the plastic will get better reception.

This is a well known fact. Regardless of whether you care about what anyone says... :)

I agree that is why they changed the iPhone 3G to a plastic back as well it helped with cell service and I gained an extra 20 feet out of the wifi. Granted this will not stop me from getting a macbook pro as soon as I can upgrade.

I don't know how I feel about the idea of consolidating the macbook and the macbook pro especially if the rumored 12 configurations is true.

Before consolidation:
Q. What are you gonna do with this system or what do you need it for?
A. I'm going to do X or Y.
Reply: Well if you're gonna do X you need a macbook, but if you do Y you should go for a macbook pro.

That alone cuts the options in half very quickly. And then you have 3 options or 4 options from there.

After consolidation:

Q: What do you need a computer to do? **** it, here are 12 computers with a ton of disparity between #1 and #12, but if you gradually move up it will be like picking the right shade of red in the color spectrum when all you want is red.

The 12 options will be fine for those of us who have ordered apple computers before, but for those looking to make their first apple notebook purchase, it seems like it would be daunting if the disparity isn't that much from one option to the next.

Of course the 12 choices and consolidation are just rumors so I could be way off base.

I would like 3 options: 13" 15" and 17" and then you choose the guts. And while you build it a battery meter appears showing projected battery life to power ratio so you can build a portable uber battery sucking editing machine or an extremely slick heavy traveling system.
What's so complicated about choosing the best option you can afford?

I just hope the Macbooks are all aluminum I don't know if I like the black plastic top

What is the diff between a netbook and a tablet?

They are the same as far as I know. A tablet doesn't mean it has to have any keyboard.
