Hm I guess they won't longer distinguish between MacBook or MacBook Pro. The technological gap has already been to tight to legitimate the higher price. Now, they can't even argument the "aluminum factor".

I guess it will be:

- MacBook Air
- MacBook 13"
- MacBook 15"
- MacBook 17"

So now, tell me what a jerk I am :p

By the way: I already sold my MacBook Pro and now I work on old gear. I hope they ship really soon

I'd only be ok with that is they go with a better graphics part across the entire line of MacBook's (or at least all except the Air).

Regardless of what they are called I'd like to see higher power graphic chips and perhaps a bump in resolution for every version. If I could get 1920x1200 on the ~15" that'd be awesome!

I think Apple will keep its consumer and pro laptop lines. For those of us who feel there is little distinction between the two to justify the "Pro" misnomer and the higher price, we should probably wait and see what Apple will introduce. There could be some new life changing feature in the new Pro line.

Sorry but this is utter myth and I don't care what anyone says.

My brother has a plastic MacBook and I have a MacBook Pro and he consistently, as in EVERY TIME, picks up about TWICE as many wireless networks as I do, when we're sitting side by side.

Clearly his reception is better than mine, and the only real difference between our laptops is that his casing is plastic and mine isn't. Both recent, both "n" cards, both running Leopard, etc.

Not a chance. That would require Apple to make two separate logic boards, one w/ integrated video and one w/o. That would be too expensive and complex. If you want a graphic card then that is what the MBP is for.

The Sony VGN SZ430 series used dual graphics over two years ago: standard built in Intel, with an NVIDEA dedicated card - little switch on keypad, reboot and away you go. Intel for battery saving, NVIDEA for heavier graphics work - if Sony cna make it work, teh vaunted Jobs can do even better...right? ;)

awesome, now the entire macbook line will have equally bad airport reception.

ah, this has been my beef with the rumored aluminum MB all along. i can't imagine why apple would sacrifice function for form. they usually meld the two so well. the new MBs, if aluminum will suck for wifi range. what are the college kiddies going to think with their laptops not getting reception in class. they might have to pay attention to the lecture?!

It could be in part to the antenna placements in the machines.

don't know if anyone has posted this yet, but found this:

http://www.apple.pro/macbook/

it looks like the macbook air though..someone trying to make us think its the new macbook?

Comes from http://www.appleowner.com/ though...is that a legit site?

I sure hope not - as a recent convert (and convinced there are many more PC convert wannabes out there) GIVE US TWO MOUSE BUTOONS - I don't care if you can control-click or even two finger click, there's a 4 inch long bar there - split it in two already.

Sorry but this is utter myth and I don't care what anyone says. Aluminum does not block your wifi signal. Out of the 6 laptops I own my mac gets the best reception.

-Sony Viao
-Asus (non EEE) (4G)
-Asus (eeePC)
-HP
-Apple
-Gateway

Sorry I have no model numbers as they are all at home in the states cept for the Apple. They are all within 2 years old.

sit side by side with a current macbook and a macbook pro. the plastic macbook will pick up more wifi signals and have more signal. right now for me, my plastic macbook picks up 7 networks from my neighborhood. my wife's macbook pro picks up only 2. both recent computers, both n cards, only real difference being the casing.

another case in point, my plastic 3G iphone gets far better wifi reception than my original aluminum iphone had. 3G iphone right now is picking up 5 of the networks in the neighborhood. my original (that i keep around as a permanent remote for our airtunes setup) only picks up our household network.

the aluminum blocks the reception. it's been (anecdotally) well documented on this site and is not a myth.

As a PC convert I sure as hell hope they DONT give us 2 mouse buttons. 2 finger right click is sooooo much better than 2 buttons, going back to my old laptops seems a real step backwards.

Personally, I never use the right-click feature, not because it's inconvenient, but because I don't need to due to the simplicity of Mac OS X. I think right-clicking is a Windows habit that is hard to break. That being said, I don't care one way or the other if Apple gives us 2 buttons.

 blastphemy! Two mouse buttons would go against everything Apple! :p

As for the video...I think it was concluded that it is a Macbook Air

There is no point to argue.
Metal case is acting as a "Faraday cage" and definitely reflects any signal reducing reception strength.
This is law of physics not an observation.

I think apples thinking is that the next mighty mouse wont have any buttons, but will have a pressure sensing touch surface

MacBook Air gets good reception. But it's not all aluminium

I'm worried. I really need to make that purchase on Wednesday! I hope not too many other people are at the store!!

Hey! I'm off to Regent Street's store on Wed as well. Btw, do you know any good places to sell my current Compaq laptop in London? I need some extra cash to buy a new mac.

Thanks!

Actually the logo looks big simply because its light is on at the maximum.
I can't believe some are thinking it's the new MB. Apple never shows its new products before the event... not even a glimpse of their product! So forget it. This is obviously the actual MBP. Also, I think the MB will be more curved on the hedges.

As a convert since April, it took me a while to get used to the idea of 2-finger click to simulate a right click - I seem to like it better.

Yes i was looking at the Dell studio laptops the other day in our local computer store. When i first got my macbook it took me a while to get my head around it, now when i used that dell it seemed outdated having to have 2 separate buttons. Like going back to a ball mouse or something.

Definitely. Two buttons on a mouse is a must have.

Trackpad, the way my hand sits, I click with my thumb, and use my middle finger to move the cursor, and my index and middle finger to do two-finger scrolling.

If I were to press a second button to right-click, I'd have to completely move my hand and wouldn't be very efficient at all.

Two-fingers + click is very effective and much better once you get used to it.

they ran out of the old ones so they had to take a pic of the new one:rolleyes:
