I still have 4gb left and I have 443 songs, 62 apps. Occasionally I will have a video on there which will take up a couple more gigs but I usually put those on my ipad.

Or do you constantly wish you had more storage? I know this is fairly subjective, i.e. someone who has a huge itunes library might need more than 16, while someone who doesn't listen to music would never know the difference...just wanted to hear opinions on whether people think it's enough for the phone to still be comfortably usable.

Not for me. Especially since its only actually 13.9GB

I keep my music on my iPod classic, so I don't have music taking up iPhone space. I'd say 16 GB is enough for me.

By and large it seems the difference for people's needs depends on whether they use the phone as a media player, or just for apps/pics. For people who use the phone for music (like me), and/or movies and lots of video, seems like 16gb isn't enough.

I've decided to splurge and spend a little extra to try to get a 64gb, there's some good deals popping up, keeping an eye on Craigslist. With 64 gigs, I can actually just sync my entire library to the phone and not have to hand pick things. Still may not do that though because there's lots of stuff in my library that's just there but that I never listen to, but it's nice to know I could actually do that haha.

16GB isn't quite enough for me.

I watch a lot of movies and I like to keep some on my phone. I don't have a large music library (iTunes says 3.17 gigs), but I use my phone as my primary camera. So I am always taking pictures and recording 720p video. So anyone who records a lot of video knows it can start to take a lot of space. I'm always keeping videos on my device also. I'm always at the race track (born into a racing family) so I'm always recording stuff at the race track or someone at the race track wants to watch a video or something.

I had a 32 gig 3GS but my sister was switching phones so she gave me her iPhone 4 and it was only 16 gigs. I believe I'll go ahead and get the largest iPhone available though when I upgrade again. I just like knowing that I'll basically never run out of space.

Well, in case anyone was curious I got myself a 64gb 4s today, got a good deal on a 1-month old perfect-condition unit, couldn't resist. Probably didn't need the full 64, but why not - now I know I'll NEVER have storage issues. Being able to freely store as much music and photos/vids as I want was worth a bit of extra scratch IMO. Cheers for all the feedback!

I will be moving up to 32 gigs with the next upgrade.

16 is almost enough. I have the best of my huge music collection on a playlist and with all my apps and the other data I barely get by. I would like to have more stuff from Cydia available to me and other things so I would like the 32 gig next go around.

For me it is enough. But, I'm not one who has to have his entire music & video library with me while accumulating thousands of apps.

I have 400 songs, 12 videos, 300 pictures and 50 apps and still have 4.8GB of storage left.

I'll be upgrading from a four year old 16GB iPhone 3G to a 16GB or 32GB new iPhone (the cheapest capacity available), since I now have a 64GB new iPad to store movies on the go.

I have the 16 and it is fine for my needs, since I throw all of my music on my 32GB iPod Touch.

Who wants to watch a movie on their phone? 16gb is fine for me because all my music is on iTunes Match.

Why not? The option is there for it so why not take advantage? I love movies and find myself always watching a movie, even during times that I should be programming. When the computer is not available to me and I have nothing else to do, what better what to pass the time than to watch a movie?

I'm not someone who thinks the 3.5" screen is too small for movies. I still don't see how 3.5" is too small (and yes I do use my phone to it's full potential actually)

Congrats. That's a good investment IMO. Even after it ceases to be used as a phone, it'll make a terrific "iPod Touch Pro".

An extra $200 is cheaper than paying a $10 overage each month over the life of the contract. It seems like a no-brainer to me now, but I guess it didn't back then. Ah well, as they say, hindsight is 20/20, right?
Yeah that's it right there.
I have an iPod Touch (64 GB) and I was stupid to even think of buying a 16 GB iPhone (was on a rush and wanted it badly) but waited, saved some more and bang, 64 GB here you go sir.

Hmm, good tip on the audio conversion, I'll have to check that out. Is that an option in iTunes when the phone is plugged in? And it still sounds good when played through headphones? How much less space does it take on average, would you guess? Like if I have a gig of music at 192+, how much space do you think it would take up at 128? .5 gigs? .6 gigs?
It's a lot of space saved and I think the automatic conversion only works when inserting an Audio CD. Since I save my collection on FLAC I either convert it to 128 and import to iTunes OR I import the 320 kpbs version and use an option to convert inside iTunes then delete the old imported 320 kbps one (don't ask why I had it converted on 320 kbps first, that was before deciding I'd just stick to FLAC for my music collection).

128 won't make a difference on a cellphone unless you are a member at HydrogenAudio forums or a relative of Jesus Christ.

I have the 32GB iPhone and only have about 700MB left. I do have way too many games, maybe it's time that I delete some?
Time to delete all of those 20 versions of Angry Birds and just keeping the regular one :D

Congratulation, you won't regret it.
Since you seem to have a big Audio collection (tell me, I've got over 300 GB), you will feel at ease.
And seriously, video recording is a big plus for not using a cheapie compact digital camera anymore but then 1080 recording can take 10 GBs per hour like I said before.

Not enough, I currently have 746MB available and have to be very selective over my music choice.

My next phone will be 32GB.

All 3 iPhones I ever owned were always 16gb and were always cramped! Started buying iPads at 64gb and love the freedom I have to put whatever I want or how much I want.

So yes for the next iPhone its going to be at least 32gb for me

I'm good with 16gb but am going to have to get my wife the 32gb on her next upgrade as she is crazy into photography. I may just get both at the 32gb level just to be the same but it depends if i have the extra $100 laying around at the time.

Good call. I backed up my 4S the other day and was pretty shocked to find that photos alone soaked up 10gb and videos (shot on there, not downloads) another 8. It's surprising how quickly you can fill it up.

Hi, OP here, in case anyone was wondering (don't think I posted result in this thread) - I picked up a 64gb 4s at a great price! It's a Verizon 4s unlocked to work with GSM using Gevey Ultra S, and it's working 100%. I was actually content with just getting a 32gb, but when I saw the deal for this 64gb I couldn't pass it up. I've got about 19 gigs of music on the phone and still have like 30 gigs free haha (also have apps and pics, not many vids yet).

I really like the feeling of being able to put (practically) as much music as I want on the phone without having to micro-manage, as well as being able to freely use the camera for pics/vid without stressing about running out of space. Only concern is now I'm going to be spoiled by a larger storage size, so when I get the new iPhone it's going to be a tough transition to go back to something smaller.

Only other bummer is because you have to be jailbroken to unlock, I might run into problems when ios 6 drops, but I'll cross that bridge when I get there.

For me 16 gig is not enough! I've been with iPhone since day 1.. Back when they came with 4 gigs. And 8.. I got the 4 gig.. Wasn't enough. Returned for the 8.. Then couple months later they came out with 16.. Gave my mom the 8 gig and bought the 16 gig... Every time apple upped capacity. I bought the biggest model. Now I have a 64 gig 4s.. And only have 5 gigs free and I have 0 tv shows or movies...
I don't know how many of you ever restore your phone from iCloud but I'm in process of restoring my phone (gave up my jailbreak).. But it's taking close to four hours to download data.. This doesn't include apps or music.. This is just data.. I had to buy more storage space in iCloud a couple months back.. And btw I have a 25 mbs internet connection.

So what is taking up all that storage? All music? Plus photos/vids?
