Even in the absence of a suitable Iris Pro chip from intel, if they really wanted to they could probably get back to the $1,999 price point just by using a quad core i5-9300H, halving the RAM and using a cheaper GPU (550X?).

Apple does not build MacBooks Pro to a price, why is this so hard to understand? Apple engineers it the way they think is most beneficial to the target market and then prices it accordingly...even when they back the MacBook Pro down to $1999, it had a Core i7 in it. They haven't used a Core i5 in a 15" model since the Mid 2010 model and that was only for a single iteration before it disappeared in the Early 2011.

Also, 8GB of DRAM would be a step backward and a 550X is just not worth the space on the motherboard.

What would make it more professional? Genuinely curious.
I'm not a "professional" in the sense that my computing needs could easily be accomplished with a MBAir but I opt for the higher end 15" Pro and iMac Pro for aesthetics.

It needs a refresh rate of AT LEAST 120hz. And it needs to run on highest settings RE2, Fortnite, Overwatch, and Apex. Real pros like myself need this.

Evidently, at least with the 13" they do. Hence the existence of the formerly-nTB model, hence the existence of i5 variants of the $1,799 13". Why they do not do this with the 15" model is anyone's guess. Price gouging most likely.

Then you should probably be buying a Windows gaming laptop if you are a pro gamer and not wasting time on a macOS-based computer unless you have unlimited funds and a penchant for self flagellation. Just sayin'.

Yes, it is...there are no updated CPUs for the 45w TDP H-Series scheduled to come out until Q1 or Q2 of 2020 (Comet Lake). Of course, that assumes these "leaked" roadmaps aren't just faked fantasy land to get clicks.
Seems like a big stretch for Apple to release a .6”. Bigger model same specs as the 15” and not drop the 15” all together. that’s all I assume is happening. Slight design tweaks but I doubt this thing will be what everyone thinks it will be. A higher end MacBook Pro. There’s just specs they would make it assume that so far.

Personally, I'm not looking at high-end (and high-priced) Macs anymore.

I would LOVE this computer (my 2011 17" is my BABY), but I truly cannot justify paying so much for what it'll inevitably cost.

I'm a non-creative-pro Mac user (I use a PC for work), and in a world where consumers and even prosumers like me claim to be able to do everything on an iPad (or iPhone!), I seriously needed to re-evaluate my needs vs wants.

So as long as it can handle tasks an iPad can (without me having to learn all of iOS's "workarounds"), that is the Mac for me. A 13" connected to 2 monitors (while driving the onboard screen) via a dock should suffice.

An ssh client, Office, and a few Cisco products and I'm ready for work too.

The advent of TB3 changed everything for me; the promise of the trash can is now fully realized: external everything at home, single-cable connection, gaming on a Mac, expandable and fast storage (cheaper than Apple's upgrades), all on a light laptop with only the essentials onboard. There goes my iMac, iPads, etc. A MacBook (with a good keyboard) would (almost) do.

Product segmentation and differentiation...also, Steve Jobs said he wanted to be proud of the computers they did engineer and I cannot see anyone being proud of a Core i5/8GB DRAM/R550X just to hit a $1999 price point. I surely wouldn't be...

I really doubt they're going to stick a 6 month old 9980HK into the a brand new redesigned laptop. More likely than not, they're going to stick the Xeon equivlenet 8 core Xeon® E-2286M or 6 core E-2276M processor into this machine just to differentiate it from the 15". The Xeon E 22XX processors are still 9th gen coffee lake refresh processors.

Eh, our needs are different. I don't care what's under the hood as much as I care about the way it looks.
In full disclosure, I'm a plastic surgeon.

I have been buying Windows PCs since forever. Mac OS X is simply not a productive desktop environment and Mac hardware is Fisher-Price level. So if Apple wants to taken seriously by professionals they need a system that can run RE2 at least.

Also needs ports like Ethernet, HDMI, SD slot, USB-A ports and a Blu-Ray drive.

Also needs to be priced at $1000 otherwise my mom said she won’t help pay for it.

Kinda dissapointed about this with no new intel chips. Rather wait a few months. Otherwise was all in.

I hope they improve the "not enough power to simultaneously drive CPU & GPU at full capacity" problem this gen has.

No. Phil Schiller even said on stage they built the nTB to appeal to 'MacBook Air buyers' - now, if that wasn't a roundabout way of saying it was built to target an audience that wasn't willing to spend as much, but willing to accept slightly less power, what was he saying?

I don't even know where to start with everything after the ellipses lol.

What about a parallel port to hook up your printer?

Hell yeah. It needs to make me look powerful and rich. Macs look so stale with the simple surfaces and edge details. And the same boring aluminum. If it don’t look cool and sexy, no buy. That’s why I rock my Samsung Galaxy. I don’t really do anything on it but I just love flaunting it on the train and bus. And the ladies love it.

Too much Apple hardware activity. I miss the days when the news was all about new watch bands or emojis.

If they get rid of that underutilized half-baked touch bar they can lower the price by $300.

I miss the days when you could buy a new 15.4 MBP for $1999.

I also miss the days when I could ride the NYC subway and buses for a dime. Oh, wait... those days are long gone and are never to return. I believe they call that inflation. /s
