I don't know why you people complain, but I love new look of the macbook's. I am a desktop user and I want to get rid of my desktop to get this thing.

Just a bunch of juvenile trolls whining and bitching because they have no money.

It really does. However, the MBPs look sleeker due to the aluminium, even from far away.

I like the matte version of the 17" MBP better due to the silver bezel. I'm trying to like the black bezel on the 17", but I can't. Of all the new designs, I think the 13" MacBook is the best looking, and the 17" MBP is the ugliest due to the black keyboard and the large amount of aluminium surrounding it.

Completely agree. And I can just about tolerate "teh glossy" on the 13" due to the display size. I can't imagine the horror of using a 17" mirror for any length of time
I mean, I'm just not that narcissistic

I guess it'll be like having a 13" with wing mirrors on each side - you'll see everything going on behind you :p ;)
Hmm, could be useful...

Has anyone seen the new 17" MBP in apple stores yet? I'd really like to play with a new one before plopping down $3k

Wow, you're actually being positive? The Onion can help: [URL="http://

THIS is ugly:

Can you imagine showing up to a client meeting with this? Once they stopped snickering, you could jump into your hot pink Honda with the 4-foot wing stuck on the rear deck and drive home.

3 months from now, all high-end laptops will be unibody and in various shades of anodized aluminum and have black keyboards just like all of the windows laptops

I think the new unibody mac Book Pro's look beautiful. And the black keys make it way easier to see the key illumination in low light; I have to squint and look closely at the keyboard to see the letters when it's illuminated because the light blends with the silver paint of the keys.

The black keyboard looks like crap. I think I'll keep my current MBP and upgrade my Mac Pro.....:)

What's wrong with some of you guys here, you act like you never saw the new Unibody Macbooks before. The 17" looks exactly the same as the 13" and the 15". I saw it at Macworld, it looks beautiful, especially the anti-glare model.

Eh... They used to look nicer.

Edit: ^ Apparently we are not allowed to not like it. Only express happiness on the Internet.

Quote of the week right there!

:D

IMVHO, the new MacBooks/Pro's are not as pretty as the previous generation, but they're not horrifically ugly like some people are saying.

Perhaps, but I'd be willing to bet that it has more useful ports on it!

Well, SOMEBODY liked them, Apple's been selling them like crazy. You're just a troll, nobody cares what you are saying. And if you don't like the new Macs then why post here, you're not going to buy them anyway.

yeah, that s-video port is all the rage right now.

Don't get me started!

S-Video is still the standard for VJs. There is a very real need for a MiniDP/S-Video adapter.

The only other realistic options are to buy a scan-converter (awkward and either laggy or expensive) or a new mixer (over £1000 for a V8, very nice though).

And yes, I have posted feedback to Apple...

For me, the design IS ugly. But on a more practical point, I have a white iMac Core 2 Duo 24" and a 15 Powerbook. I can't upgrade either as I need non-glossy for outdoor and colour critical work. The only option available is the Mac Pro and Cinema Display and 2 grand (UK) for the 17" anti-glare (that might not even be colour accurate).

If the situation continues, it won't be a case of UGLY notebooks, it will be a case of I can't use Macs anymore.

It's just a matter of preference and they are expressing their opinions... just because someone says something negative about the new design doesn't mean they are "juvenile trolls".

You can certainly pair non-Apple external monitors with any Apple with a video out. As much as I like the aesthetic of Apple monitors, they lack the input options to support a second computer and anything but DVI.

The only thing I dislike about my 15" is the keyboard.. Not because of how it works functionally, but because they decided to use smooth black keys..

Shows every single oily fingerprint and speck of dust that hits it.
OMG its a Marketing ploy!!! were all gonna be happy when they come out with the silver option :p
LOL!
Honestly I bought one and I also use both 2008 MBP 17 and the new MBP 15 uni. Its a freakin computer nuff sed :p

Man, ever since they announced the 17" I've been going back and forth between that and the next Mac Pro. To be able to do my graphics and web work in my office, then pick and leave at any time is so handy. Then for the same price in a Mac Pro, I could get so much power.... but none of the portability.

But seeing these initial pics, it's so hard to choose! Can't wait to see some benchmarks and more pics!

Congrats to all who ordered and have your shipments already - very exciting!

i don't think any of the unibody's ever photograph well, but they look and feel sooo amazing in real life. that's my personal thoughts anyways :)

I completely agree. Even the pictures on Apple's website look cheap and plain. But every time I see the unibodies in real life my old MacBook Pro gets jealous :p

Oh, and for goodness sakes - you whiners who hate the new unibody - go buy a blasted refurb then - they are amazingly cheap!

I love the new design, use them in person and you'll find they are rock solid!

Have the antiglare ones started shipping, too? If anyone has received one can you post a picture? I am trying to decide between glossy and antiglare and would like to see both machines before I buy...

Black Keyboard

I have my MBP 17 on order, wasn't as fast as all of youl were. Mine is due to be shipped Mar 12 (seems like an eternity at this point) lol

The reason for the black keyboard, which granted does not LOOK as good as the other one, COULD be this ... I have had two versions of the 17" MBP and have had keyboards replaced multiple times due to my acrylic fingernails "scratching" off the coating. I view this black keyboard as a definite improvement, although perhaps not as aesthetically pleasing ... kudos to Apple for acknowledging the problem and attempting to fix it.

I simply can't wait to get my hands on the new addition to my family (the MBP) and am green with envy of all of you that have a tracking number!

enjoy *S*
