Contacts come up faster, even from other apps, but that may simply be a result of my having restarting the phone shortly ago. I don't know what inefficiencies result from running app after app, and then calling up Contacts.

Downloaded in about 6 minutes steady but i haven't installed it yet...will wait for reports. Remember contacts and SMS will appear not to lag because you just rebooted/restored but is it for real?

Absolutely no difference here. Still slow as crap opening contacts etc. And still the Safari bug (as mentioned above in Wikipedia etc).

I know only more use will tell for sure, but so far initially my keyboard lag in the SMS app is mostly gone, but contacts still lags a little (but clears up after a few seconds of initially loading it). Safari seems to load pages a little faster (seriously) over wifi so far.

I just did a complete restore of my iPhone a couple days ago, and even after that fresh install (not restore from a backup) my phone is a bit "snappier" in those areas. With the 2.0.1 update my keyboard lag was still there from the start, so I'm somewhat hopeful that it'll remain more smooth overall... we'll see over the next few days

Error???

I tried to install and it said this:

iTunes could not sync to the iPhone "Owner's iPhone" because an unknown error occured (-19).

anyone know why?

241 MBs?! wow, this is my first iPhone update but that seems huge to me.

It downloads the entire operating system along with the update...

This is so if next time you're in the car for a roadtrip and your iPhone gets rofl'd, you can restore without having to download 230 MB.

I noticed the modem firmware changed, AGAIN. At 2.0.1 it was 01.48.02, and now it's 02.08.01 on 2.0.2.

Unlockers thwarted a bit longer!

That is probably cause it indexes the contacts to allow for search-as-you-type. That's the only reason I can think of as why a simple app such as a list of contacts is lagging. They should just index upon boot or when a new contact is added/deleted.

Contacts/SMS lag gone!! Thank god!

The lag is gone for me and I got 3G in my basement for the first time!! It is only one bar, but I do not live in a well covered 3G area.

EDIT: My friend has the LG Shine with 3G and always got 1 bar of 3G in my basement, but I did not, and now I do so it must be working correctly now!!:D:apple:

Downloaded and installed just waiting on a fast backup and will be checking for changes in speed and connectivity, fingers crossed, anyone noticed that itunes 99p rental a fish called wanda is not available for rent and is only to buy at 6.99, was looking forward to another film bargain :-( contacted jobsy and he told me he will personally see to this issue.

Well after being one of the first naysayers, here I am downloading (attempting; its been sitting at 3.7 of 241 for a while now). Hope this does something. Something more than the last one did anyway. Wouldn't take much...

2.0.2 officially the ****

finnally the contact lagging is down to one second, never noticed a major problem with sms but that seems as snappy as ever, safari runs smoothly, 2.0.1 fixed most app crashes hopefully like OS X 10 crashes will be few and very very very far between, all looks good iThanks Apple

OK I'm doing some comparison tests between my wife's iPhone 3G 16GB and my iPhone 3G 16GB. She is still on 2.0.1 and I upgraded to 2.0.2.

First, I rebooted both phones at the same time. Hers got to the springboard about 2 seconds before mine at 5 bars of 3G, whereas mine has 3 bars. These bars seem meaningless, because we'll switch, moments where she has more signal and moments where I have.

I did notice her phone was slightly faster in any given moment, such as opening the App store, opening contacts (she DOES have less though), opening settings etc.

Those who say they see a difference. Yeah... whatever. There isn't.

Not only is it not any faster, there's a new bug.

It's happened twice. Scrolling between screens, the icons go into "shake" mode where they can be moved. It usually takes a second or so of holding down to make that happen.

Consider this possibility: Apple updated nothing.
Can you say "placebo?"

Seriously - the idea that Apple releases something - anything - to make it appear they are "working on it" (even if Apple knows there is nothing they can fix with software) is not out of the realm of possibility. Reminds me of the ideas discussed in this excellent article.

Not saying there are no bug fixes here. Just saying it's possible this is merely a PR campaign. Stop the bleeding. Make people feel they (Apple) are on it (problems).

Just a thought.
Looking forward to updating when I get home this eve.
Hoping to return to that lightning-quick responsive OS all pre-2.0 users came to know, love & dare I say "expect."

I doubt it, for the simple reason that doing firmware upgrades can be risky and has the potential to brick a device which would cause even more problems for Apple. I don't think they want people doing firmware updates if they don't have to.
