I was watching your game earlier in the week, and as always I'm astounded by the number of hot women that attend A&M. Then I see all those goose stepping, wannabe military skinheads everywhere, and realize that these poor, hot women are trapped at a school were all the guys would rather be in their dorm room rubbing one out to Top Gun.

Sigh...those women need rescuing!

A&M has nothing on TTU. While I was there it was rated number 2 in the nation on the hotness on the women who went there. Have to say it is very true.

Very true. Tech has lots of hot girls. And since most of them are incredibly stupid, it's very easy to talk them into doing things they didn't know they wanted to do.

Very true, but if you lose to a team that isn't even allowed to play in the BCS, why should you ever be ranked by that system? Losing to a I-AA team is the worst thing you can possibly do as a football team (on the field). Teams like Va Tech, Ole Miss and Kansas should have had their seasons cancelled after those losses.

Nah, let 'em play their seasons. Just no shot at the BCS. Plus, I want to see Ole Miss lose some games! Sadly, I can easily imagine Va Tech running through the terrible ACC and winning the conference again. They have a history of losing one or two games they have no business losing, then rampaging through the conference.

Go Gators :)

Yep. Go all the way down to 4-3! :)

Geesh, what happened to the SEC East? One ranked team. Meanwhile 5/6 teams in the SEC West are ranked.

Edit: Speaking of the Gators, check out this ad somebody put on Craigslist. It seems somebody is not happy with their Offensive Coordinator.

Aww... "Flagged for removal"

What did it say? :)

Darn, I can't get to the message board where I found it at work. I'll have to dig it up when I get home and copy 'n paste it. It was basically a help wanted ad with stuff like "must actually be able to read college defenses. must be willing to change offense to fit current personnel."

Edit: Here is the text from the ad:

The University of Florida Gators Football Program is looking for a new Offensive Coordinator to take over for failing Steve Addazio for the 2010 (and possibly beyond) football season.

Job Duties:
Lead the entire offense
Call plays for Florida Gator football to suite the skills of the personnel in the game(s)
Utilize ALL of the talent on the loaded Florida Gator roster and make changes where needed
Study opposing defenses and come up with different game plans each week

Requirements:
Brain
Knowledge of NCAA football (plays, rules and regulations)
Must not be hard headed (willing to make changes where things are failing)
Must have ability to come up with creative, non predictable plays (running HB Dive on every 1st and 10 does not qualify)
Must have ability to scrutinize and utilize the entire offensive roster, including the LOADS of new talent that comes in each season
Must have the willingness to pass the ball more than 15 yards
Must be willing to call appropriate plays depending on personnel in the game (calling an option with a pocket passing QB DOES NOT work)

This job is a contract position for the remainder of the 2010 season with possibility to extend into the 2011 season and beyond depending on performance.

Ha ha ha!

The sad part is that it seems to be true. I honestly don't follow Florida, but the consensus seems to be that he's trying to run the Tebow offense with a pocket guy. Even I can tell ya that ain't gonna work.

Just further proof that all the talent in the world amounts to zilch if you don't have the right coaches as well.

Don't you know Meyer is kicking himself wishing Cam Netwon stayed there. Imagine him in the Tebow offense.

I just wish he had followed Dan Mullen. I thought we had him. He seemed enthusiastic, he said he was coming here, and he was at the Ole Miss game ringing a cowbell. Then out of nowhere, he commits to Auburn. Word around here is that his dad talked him into it, since he didn't want Cam to be our "only player". You know, as opposed to Auburn, where he is about 70% of the Auburn offense.

I think Newton would be a one man show wherever he went really. That's usually the case with an athletic, running QB. Look at Robinson at Michigan, Newton at Auburn, Tebow to some extent when he was at Fla, heck...even us (Georgia Tech) with Joshua Nesbitt. The offenses are geared so much around those QB's running ability that if that is shut down, or if they get hurt, the offense is pretty much dead. We've already seen it happen this year with Michigan/Robinson...when he's been shut down, they have no offense (but...Rodriguez is a crap coach anyway). We've definitely seen it the past few years when Nesbitt is shut down or hurt (especially with our triple option...timing is such a big part of that offense that it's hard for the rest of the guys to get adjusted to a backup QB when Nesbitt has gotten hurt in game). If/when someone shuts down Newton at Auburn, we will see if they have any other athletes and if they can make adjustments. Although he does appear to be an exceptional athlete, and maybe he himself is good enough to be able to keep people from shutting him down.

No one's that good. It's not a matter of 'if,' but a matter of 'when' he gets shut down.

When defenses finally completely key in on him, will the rest of the team (and coaches) be able to adjust?

Having one supremely dominant player on your team is never good for the long run. It's a team game, and one stellar athlete will never bring you a championship. LeBron comes to mind here...

What do you think everyone has been doing so far? Sometimes an offensive scheme—with the perfect player running it—can trump anything you can do defensively, but LSU's defense will be the best he's faced up to now. Then playing in Tuscaloosa at the end of the year will be the biggest test of all.

Ever heard of Vince Young?

That's what I was saying when I said "...if/when..." some team is able to shut him down. He's obviously been the primary concern of opponent's defenses so far, and has yet to be shut down. It's going to take a really good defense (like the two you mentioned...LSU and Alabama) to even have a chance of shutting him down. It's going to take a great secondary to man on man blanket his receivers and take those options away from him, and a good LB and defensive end team to contain him and his running ability. I'm not positive if any team can do it, but then again, we haven't seen too much of Auburn's RB's and WR's to know if they can pick up the slack when/if Newton is ineffective (so far, they haven't had to! He's able to make things happen so far).

I'm surprised they haven't been ranked #1 by the computers. Unless Oklahoma administers a bona fide woodshed beating of Mizzou this weekend, looks like that'll change.

If you look at the computer rankings (1/3rd of the total BCS ranking), the computers actually have Oregon with an average ranking of 8! With LSU of all teams with an average ranking of 2. Oregon will have to make a big jump in the computer third of the BCS ranking to get to #1 overall it seems, unless those computer rankings can vary wildly week to week.

A lot of analysts are saying that Oregon will have a hard time getting their computer rankings up. I don't know about that, but as long as they stay #1 I don't think they'll have a problem with at least staying in the top 2.

Of course a lot of these analysts are predicting USC actually putting up a fight against Oregon. Umm. Right.

Granted, Oregon hasn't played anyone aside from Stanford, but they dominated Stanford, and dominated everyone else as well. They're a great team, but I would still like to see them against an elite defense.

The more I look at them, the more I don't understand the computer ranking systems at all. Does anyone know where to see how each one is tabulated? Two of them have LSU at a #1 ranking! WTF?

This year could be the first year since 2005 (USC/Texas) that an SEC team doesn't win the BCS Championship ;)

Since 1998 the SEC has had 4 different teams win 6 BCS Championships
Florida 2, LSU 2, Alabama and Tennessee

No other Conference has more than 2 teams (Big 12: Texas and Oklahoma) with one win apiece
And it took them 7 tries to win 2 games

The SEC is 6-0 in BCS Championship Games

LSU and Auburn play each other this weekend
Both still have to play Alabama

A one loss SEC team could still make the championship
And could jump an undefeated Boise or TCU

Well, you know we have to let someone else win every now and then. Maybe one day the Big East may actually send a team to the BCS title game. :D

They have... Miami and Va Tech both went while in the Big East
Miami was 1-1 and Va Tech was 0-1

Yeah, but no current members have been. And if you don't count Miami, the ACC hasn't had anyone in the game in 10 years. And I still don't know if I am impressed that the Big 12 has been there 7 times or disappointed that they are 2-5. And is the Pac 10 now considered 0-2 since USC had to vacate that win?

According to Wikipedia

Pursuant to NCAA sanctions, running back Reggie Bush was declared retroactively ineligible for the 2005 Orange Bowl. The BCS has formally vacated the Trojans' victory, but USC remains the 2004 BCS national champion pending a decision by the BCS Presidential Oversight Committee.
