So yes, the delivery times are different in various countries. This definately means more than holidays and the usual delay (which also always are being shown in the standard "in stock" red text on the main imac page) So, as forty2j is saying, either they are waiting new batches of the old (then one can safely assume it wont be a 2012 iMac) or the new shipment is in fact new iMacs.

sadly guys i have to report that i have give up on the imacs because no update made me re-evaluate what i want/ need and its now basically a 13 mbp or a 15 mbp for reasons below

the rMBP seem to be giving lot of screen issues
rMBP cost
rMBP not easily upgradable apparently
not a biggy but no dvd drive

with the 13 i get 8gb + 2.9 dual i7 £1249

with the 15 i get quad core i7 + nvidia graphics £1499

either HDD is bigger than i need and will probably become 256 ssd anyway so no difference

so £250 for nvidia and quad core but less RAM which like ssd is easily added

which do you think, cause i am buying this in the next 2 weeks

----------

are the prices on the usa apple store the actual end price you guys pay or are there any added state tax or such like etc

i am about to buy 15 mbp @ £1499 or $2400 but it is $1799 on apple usa so that is $600 more expensive

but if i ship it it will cost almost that with postage and customs

my state of new jersey charges 7% some states are as high as 10% a few

are 0%.

I used to buy upgrade and sell a lot of mac minis overseas via ebay.

A few macbook pros. forget doing it with iMacs or mac pros.

here is a 2012 quad core

http://store.apple.com/us/product/FD103LL/A/refurbished-macbook-pro-23ghz-quad-core-intel-i7

cost is 1529 if I purchased this for a euro buyer.

I could get it for 1529 plus 7% tax I get a 5% rebate for discover card so it nets to 1560 before mods. I would drop in a 256gb ssd an add on 200 for that 1760 and I would put in 16gb ram add on 100 my cost is now 1860.

If I shipped it to the uk with the us post office and 1500 insurance my shipping cost is 141 so if i sold it at 2000 to a uk buyer I break even. not counting ebay fees. the uk buyer may have to pay 300 in taxes based on the 1500 insurance price.

total cost to the uk buyer is 2300 for a refurbished machine with a 1 year warranty. if the uk buy gets a new model instead of refurb at the uk store price is 1500 pounds tax included. he goes to uk amazon buys an ssd and some ram total cost maybe 1800 pounds .

so 2300 usd is about 1435 pounds vs 1800 pounds if you figure in ebay and paypal fees it is about 1600 pounds vs 1800 pounds a mere 200 pounds saved to get a refurb instead of a new machine.

needless to say this business has dried up. there was a time that the savings was quite a bit more but that has stopped. shipping went way up as did ebay fees and paypal fees. also if you factor in the vat the base price is close to the same. It used to be that the macs were higher in europe even if you minus the vat off the price.

I would guess that if you were considering an iMac in the first place that screen size must have been a factor. So, I would go for the larger screen if you're determined to go to MBP.

As for purchasing from Apple US. I'm pretty sure they won't ship out of the country. The only way to do it would be to get a friend in the US to buy one and have them ship it over in a plain wrapper with a false customs declaration on it. Even then, you'd run the risk of customs over here having a look anyway and charging you duty.

I've considered this more than a few times. The thin that's kept me from jumping is that I need at least 1TB hard drive but also want SSD, and Apple doesn't offer 2 drive configuration like they do in the iMac. Getting very impatient waiting but unfortunately the MBP just won't cut it for me.

If Apple had dropped prices on last year's model I would probably have just gotten one at this point, but I'm not willing to pay full price for an 18 month old machine, especially with something new coming any time now.

If the MBP works for you, I think you've made a wise decision.

I don't understand, it still says shipping oct 16 for me. both norway and us. Even for standard models. For me this is an indication. Maybe its not like this everywhere but its somewere, meaning they are nearly out of stock.

Hmm... tried updating your cart ? restartinb browser ?

Mine says in stock and ready for delivery on all pages, even during final chekcout. In norway it says delivered 3-7 days, which probably is the norm ?

Could you post a recent SS ?

There is potentialy good combo MBP with 256GB SSD + 2x 3.5"HDD NAS + Cinema display= Price is higher then if you buy iMac but then again you get NAS that you can use in later stage when you decide to go for more powerfull MBP....So in future you can keep NAS and Cinema Display and change only MBP + you also have portable option with your MBP and access to your files from where ever you are...

the screen wasnt the reason. the reason i was looking at iMac was that i have an ipad2 2 iphones and apple tv so i wanted something to sync everything to so i thought of a desktop because i have enough portability with all the rest.

i have got to where i am now because when i was waiting for the imac update i was also trying to work out where to locate the desktop and basically couldnt find one acceptable to both my son and i. He wanted something for xbox gameplay video capture and basic gaming like minecraft ( o yes his studies as well, better not forget that) that would sit in his game room and i wanted something that i could use when he was on the xbox etc

Wait is that the date it goes out for shipping or the date it'd get to your house ? Because when they say it "delivers by" means that's when it gets to your house

delivery, but a delivery date of oct 16 (8days) in NYC, havent seen it before.

Here in Italy it says "available", but then when you approach check out and insert a postal code, it goes Oct. 12 for a standard 27' iMac ... don't know if it's normal though

they are probably going to sell them this month.

why? I went and built the 2 pc's instead of an iMac.

it will be interesting to see how good the new model will be compared to my pc's

It could be because today is a holiday in some areas I guess. Just playing devils advocate

You could be right. It might not mean anything. But its a delayed delivery in Norway too. But it doesnt need to be anything. I guess we will know soon enough. And as mentioned before I have a hard time even picturing myself ordering a new iMac this month after all this waiting...I've had too many disappointments from apple lately.

It's been some depressing times personally lately.. No iMac and I also ordered the Wacom 22HD early August, then got a broken device and returned it. Then when I got it back I noticed it had this high frequency noise that just whacks my brain. So have to return it yet another time. Sadly it seems this is a common problem on the new Wacom cintiq - so probably ill get another crappy device back :( I know it's off topic but it just sours my day even more. So if anyone is buying a cintiq 22HD, beware!! It's could be a *****torm hitting you with great magnitude. Wish Wacom would build their devices like apple, with some more care and not the cheapest components on the market.

iMacs out of stock

I know "this doesn't mean anything", but I was in my local Apple dealer (not Apple Store) on Friday, and all of the iMacs were "temporarily out of stock."

Just thought I would add the observation.

I hear your pain brother. It's been like the for me too it feels that nothing is going right and things just seem to be getting worse and everything is just seems not to get easier and everything is just a hustle

Guys this is the mentality that these blogs are I'm under the impression that we haven't heard any imac news is because people with the ability to ask around (their sources) for the iMacs they just simple don't nor no one bothers to leak out parts because it won't be too much of a big story.

This exactly I've been saying all along. It's not Apple's fault that there's no news/leak about iMac. It's the bloggers/reporters fault for not wanting to find out! No initiation whatsoever to be different and more adventurous. Only go for the obvious!

I think that tomorrow the 9th is the day. Someone mentioned it a few pages before and I dont know why but i got the feeling he knew what he was talking about. So hopefully we will have it on our hands by the end of the month.

You're talking about the Tim guy (rokmac) or the bra guy (forty2j)? If you mean the Tim guy, no he didn't. I wanted to believe that he did, but after investigating his other posts, nope... he's just as clueless we are.
