With a long slide down, Giants have come back six in a row and is only 1/2 game out of second NL wild card spot.

The NL Central is heavily stacked with three teams that could go all the way this year so Giants will have to get through rest of season without another long slump. But a team like St. Louis can have a terrible losing spell and still make playoffs. They are so on fire at .637 and in AL KC is fine at .611 and both are five ahead of next closest team in league. If KC still had Aoki and Shields they would be the ones at .637 at this point in baseball.

When Aoki gets back with the Giants in full health, barring any other major injuries on SF's squad, we can actually have a chance to finally finish top of NL West for first time since 2012, and supplant two time NL West winner LA.

If our rotation is Bumgarner, Cain, Heston, Lincecum, and Vogelsong, then we can do it. Our bullpen is still a factor as always. We have a strong infield on defense and good bats in the outfield with Aoki, Pagan, and Pence. What more can we ask for if all these players are healthy? It would be as strong a team going in as 2010, 2012, and 2014, hands down. We can win an odd year with this crew and with Bochy at the helm, expect the team to play better than regular season stats if we make it to October.

When I first saw 2010 I knew that Lincecum and Cain were the big stars in pitching with Sanchez (strikeout leader) as an ever-present threat. But who was this fourth pitcher, Bumgarner? ;)

We are at a point where we have our one ace, but we will need equal help from an unforeseen place in starting pitching if we make it to the playoffs. We need two like we had with Lincecum and Cain in 2010 and Zito and Bumgarner in 2012. But 2014 was a one time thing with Bumgarner pulling so much weight in one World Series. We can't expect any person, even him, to repeat that type of performance if we go into playoffs this year.

I like Heston but I don't know if he could hold up into second half of season and then postseason. It's almost too much to ask. We would have to have a total early career type resurgence of Hudson, Peavy, Cain, or Vogelsong to pull this one off. If we had any of those older veterans in their absolute prime I would feel very confident in our chances in a postseason.

Giants win again. 8-2 in their last 10. After last night's win Heston is 10-5. Still not one of the WC's but gaining. More importantly we are gaining on the Bodgers.

***Breaking*** Mets call up some batting reinforcements with top prospect Michael Conforto so he can wake up the bats, perfect timing...this getting intresting.

This just in ::::::::> Mets have just bought 2 offensive players from the Atlanta Braves, Juan Uribe and Kelly Johnson, as a Mets fan this is a big thing cause we dont have a big payroll like other teams. Its time to flex our muscles for the playoffs...YouGottaBelieve

There is no reason the Mets can't or shouldn't have a bigger payroll, other than cheap clueless owners. If they want to compete with the Yankees for eyeballs they need to spend it on talented players.

So the Red Sox finally found a team that sucks more than they do, the Tigers. Sawx get their first post all star break win.

Cole Hamels pitched a no-no against the Cubs today.

i still wouldn't trade for him... which the giants will ... lol. actually i think the yankees really want him don't they?

the deal for peavey still leaving a bad taste in my mouth. i wouldn't trade for price either.

the upside for hamels is he has been on a winning WS team.

I don't think the Yankees want to give up prospects.

In other news. The Royals won the Cueto sweepstakes.

I don't think the Giants have enticing enough prospects to land Hamels. The Dodgers and Rangers can certainly offer more young talent to the Phils in return.

Red Sox trade Shane Victorino and cash to Angels for Josh Rutledge.

Mets trade for A's closer Tyler Clippard for minor league pitcher Casey Meisner.

Rangers are in the lead for Hamels over the Dodgers.

Tulo to the Blue Jays. Will CarGo be out the door next?

Quite a few teams appear to be serious about Hamels, including the Giants.

Now the Royals have added Ben Zobrist. They're really going for it.

And Papelbon is apparently on his way to the Nats.

Jenrry Mejia snagged on another drug test. Made the decision of who to send down with the addition of Clippard MUCH easier. Mejia on the sidelines with no pay for 162 games, he's done as a Met for all I care.
