They were not rumors, the deal was in place, The Mets pulled the plug at the last minute.

Your GM let your short stop hang in the wind on the field.

wrong again. the brewers pulled out, its all rumors till the deal is done. you guys should know better than that. by the way, aren't you a yank fan? why are you giving Mets updates? seems weird.

Every report is saying that the Mets pulled the plug over concerns about Gomez' hips. The Brewers reported it on their website and Gomez even posted a goodbye photo with his teammates. It was a little further than a rumor.

What's weird about fans of other teams posting news, especially this time of the year?

I can't believe the White Sox are the hottest team in baseball. While their pitchers are amazing, that offense looked so dead for so long.

Looks like they're going after a bat as well. Makes sense to do something since the Blue Jays just retooled like crazy and they are in on that 2nd wild card spot as well. should be a great few months with all of these races!

Only the Mets could botch a trade this badly. The trade for Brewers OF Carlos Gomez died when the Brewers saw Wheeler's medical records.

Not what I heard later on but that was the speculation when it was revealed there was a hold-up on the medical side

Twitter is now reporting that the failed physical was for Gomez hip. Rosenthal is reporting that the Mets backed out of the deal.

This is what's being SAID. I heard other speculation that it was BS drummed up by the Mets so they could back out because they wanted some financial considerations the Brewers didn't want to give up.

It was just rumors, it wasnt official. it was not botched.

Yup, and it wasn't botched on the Mets side to begin with anyway. Counsell told Gomez to be ready to hop a flight to NY as there was a trade in progress that involved him, and it was pending medical review. He and his teammates got together, did a "farewell photo" and posted it to social media, that caused it to blow up.

Collins wasn't told until someone mentioned Flores was getting emotional and the bench coach told him what was going on (and that info wasn't relayed from management, it came from someone in the clubhouse)

It was even announced on the Brewers website.

Either way, the Mets probably should have removed Flores from that game once he started to get emotional.

And the Brewers jumped the gun in doing so. See above about having told Gomez in advance of the trip from SF to MIL.

Can I get credit for most posts quoted in one post?

I'm inclined to agree. I'm worried this win streak is going to be costly long term. The White Sox should really move Samardzija for something of value, but they probably won't now.

That second wild card makes it harder for teams to choose whether to be buyers or sellers. Look at the Jays and Tigers - they have almost the same record but one chose to buy and one chose to sell.

On the bright side, the Mets GM said, "its not friday yet" meaning they are still looking to get a bat till friday since its the deadline. dont jump the gun guys, you all have been a victim of social media giving out rumors. and the Wilmer Flores thing wasnt a big deal to me, he needs to man up. thats why the Mets didnt take him out of the game cause there was no deal.

They might need some closer help. Seeing how their game ended today. And probably some more help for the grounds crew.

You can't analyze a team by just one bad game, baseball doesnt work that way. And you are probably gonna need help with your inaccurate rumor updates.

The Houston Astros made a major statement in their push for a postseason berth when they acquired outfielder Carlos Gomez and pitcher Mike Fiers in a trade with the Milwaukee Brewers, the team announced Thursday.

The deal came less than 24 hours after a reported trade of Gomez to the New York Mets fell through because of an undetermined snag.

The Astros will receive prospects Brett Phillips, Domingo Santana, Josh Hader and Adrian Houser from Milwaukee for Gomez and Fiers.

that said, i'd love to see them make a run and win WS again. but i just don't see it.

Going to be interesting to see what my team does. White Sox streak ended last night. Do they really think they have a shot or should they see what they can get by selling off a few pieces?

Normally, with their record, the answer is a resounding NO. However, because the rest of the AL is so bad, they're still right in it. Problem is, there's no chance they win a World Series this season.

I'm ready for a culture change in the White Sox front office. I believe that can be achieved with the firing of Kenny Williams. Rick Hahn is a really smart guy, but Kenny clearly has him on a short leash.

the chisox and the orioles are my sentimental AL faves. I'd love to see you guys go back to something like this...

...and get rid of all that black ****. the problem is you won a WS in black pinstripes so i bet you will never change from look.

giants are hot too but they are being ignored again. chisox, who i really do like, are not gonna make a run.

dodgers pull off an amazing deal! 3 team 13 players!

I think we are ignored because our three WS winning teams all had different key heroes (Lincecum winning game 1 and game 5, but then Zito/Sandoval trouncing of the most feared Verlander, and finally Bumgarner and his three great performances on the mound) AND those pesky LA Dodgers are simply a better team than us and it's easy to being caught looking at what Kershaw or some of the Dodger hitters are doing winning Cy Youngs or slamming baseballs right and left.

While all eyes are on the Dodgers when sports fans are checking out California or west coast in general, we have a chance in this next series against Texas to take the NL West lead. This would make for a great start for August and by then we can get new star pitcher on board and hit the ground running in the 60 games remaining.

We may lose Peavy or Hudson as starters but that will only pad our bullpen. Lincecum may have gone off of regular rotation in 2011, but he came back as key bullpen star in 2012. Though nobody cares about bullpens and only like the Cy Young guys and home run hitters, we do have the best bullpen anybody could wish for.
