If it bothers you I would try exchanging it for another one. I ended up finding an A033 screen that was an improvement, even if it’s still not 100%. All of the other ones I had looked very yellowish overall on top of having spots that were either darker and pink or even more yellow. The one I have now I can live with at least.

Thanks, I just ordered another one and hoping to get a bit luckier this time. Will update once it comes in!

Yeah I think having 'one I can live with' is probably the aim right now rather than a perfect screen unfortunately.

Looks the color uniformity is an LCD tech issue. I don't think this will ever be solved
It absolutely is, but there's some lottery too it. I have no bleed on a MBP 13 2017 base model or an iPhone 6S Plus, but an iPad Pro 9.7" has a touch, and that Sony you saw's a mess.

Color uniformity is always an issue, but the problem on 2016-2017 is exceptionally horrify to the point where the problems are all identical. That is a manufacture defect, not a tech issue anymore.

Since before 2016, the problem is almost went unnoticeable for most.

Just got my 2nd 15".

Yellow/pink tint is good. In sunlight there is no problem with the backlight bleed.... Go to dark..... WTF is that thing in the corner?! How the **** is this possible in 3400€ machine that there is so horrible backlight.....

How the **** is this even possible Apple?!?!?!?

OK this goes back, and lets try for the 3rd time.....

So after exchanging an embarrassing amount of MacBooks I finally got a screen with no issues-13”. However I noticed the lid has a minor gap on the corner. Wondering if at this point just ignore the gap since the screen is great or try for the “perfect” one.

It's not realistic to expect a perfect laptop with zero manufacturing defect. There's probably a tolerance range to maintain certain quality standard but it won't be perfect. Even a perfect laptop with 1-2 months of usage will start to have some defect showing.

It's a shame that Apple charges such premium price for laptops that many expects perfection. But if people keep exchanging and returning, seeking for a perfect laptop, it will drive up the cost for Apple, and eventually passed on to customers... so more expensive laptop.

On the other hand, if people would not send it back, they would scale back quality checks until people complain.

Would you guys keep the one with the gap if it doesn’t have screen issues? The way I look at it it’s going to get scratches down the line anyway and this is so minor where as with the screen I would be staring at that all day

To some extend i do agree that there is tolerances. But cmon man...

In my case 1st 15" had flashlight effect coming from bottom of the laptop, second one looks like something has pushed to the screen itself (there was no dent's etc. so it was like that when it left the factory)

IF Apple charges us over 3000€/$ on a laptop (which is on the high-end in terms of pricing) There should be better QC on these things....

That’s what I’m thinking. The gap is so minor and I might be getting the vaja case which would make it unnoticeable in daily use.

From your photo, I wouldn't notice it if you didn't mention lol. As long as it's not affecting functionality and productivity, it's fine. Stress test the machine if I were you... that's how I discovered the GPU glitch on my MBP in 2012. Talked to several technical specialists on Apple hotline and they decided to exchange a new one for me so that they can investigate on the faulty hardware. Guess they were more concerned since it was the first generation of MBP with Retina display.

Only some years later, it's known that the batch of MBPs produced around that time have faulty GPU. So if you stress the computer a little more, you may discover problems earlier that will save you lots of hassles later on in time.

Cosmetic defects are really minor in comparison. I wouldn't even call yours as a cosmetic defect lol. It's just deviation from aesthetic perfection.

Thanks for the advice. I will put it through it paces. I only noticed because of an angle I saw it at the other day. Wasn't looking for issues.

Anyone else here see a little gap? I don't think it'll be a functionality issue-maybe some dust can get in????

DO NOT SEND IT BACK! That is my advice. Getting a good screen seems almost impossible right now, so if it's good, keep it! Frankly, it's possible you'll never get a screen you're happy with again. The gap (which tbh I can't really see anyway) will not functionally impact your use. Just my 2c!

Thanks for the reply. Dang, I wish I could just get one that has no issues at all. I feel like it never used to be like this, but who knows. I agree that I'd rather have a cosmetic "issue" vs a screen issue. I can't say how nice it is to now even think about comparing different sides of a screen for different tints when looking at this macrumors page. If I hadn't gone through almost 10 different 15" and 13" MacBook pro's all with worse screens, I would have prob returned this one....

So got my 3rd 15"

Backlight bleed at the bottom isn't visible to the naked eye. And out of 3 this is by long shot the best screen..... BTW its full brightness in almost 100% dark environment... When you actually view content In that setting, its going to burn your eyes lol....

Going to keep this one.

Is their any uneven tint with the white backgrounds? Your pic is a little far away to tell, but if it’s accurate it looks even to me.

There might be tinies bit on the right bottom of the screen some pinkish tint. Its really hard to capture on camera. But TBH backlight bleed bothers me more... And this unit has it almost 100% perfect.

I can see the bleed on the bottom, but pictures exaggerate things. The issue with me is that I’d be looking at this stuff whether it’s an uneven tint or bleed during use, just because I know they’re there, but that’s me. If you can forget it and it doesn’t jump out during daily use, then you may want to consoder keeping. I’ve gone through many more than you, and never found a “perfect” screen on a 15”.

That is true. Really dint see the issue until I got my camera to it and look it through that.

But there is one issue. The whole screen looks "pinkish"

Is there a way to calibrate this thing?
