Steve Jobs has been dead since 2011, times change. The iPhone X Plus for this year is rumoured to have a 6.5" display, the biggest Apple has ever put into an iPhone, we are not talking about 4" screen size anymore for the iPhone. Steve Job's had a point back in 2007 but it's now 2018!
But, still, every now and then, people will make reference to Exploding phones from Samsung... Times change, people don't.

Is it just me or does it seem like this is the most unexciting release to date. I'm more interested in the iPad and Apple Watch. Another year, another iPhone. Bleh...
I feel the same. Normally I am so excited for the keynote. Really not that excited this year regarding iPhone. Think I’m going to stick with my X... I’m really excited for new iPads though! In desperate need of a new one.

I don't see how this could be remotely described as a better value phone then, especially as Apple have a most annoying habit of using the dollar price as the GBP price in the UK e.g. $599 = £599.

Right now one UK£ = US$1.235. You pay 20% VAT (there is US sales tax, but it's not part of the advertised price). There are better consumer rights in the UK that don't come for free. Right now you can be happy if dollar and pound prices are the same.

Just want a spec-bumped SE. Money on the table Apple, with your name on it, if you want it (maybe not? I know you have a lot already! :p).

I would grab 2 new unlocked SE's immediately along with 2 new updated mini's if they come out. All my devices are now off apple care. Haven't upgraded specifically because Apple isn't selling what I want. Lot's of people are looking to buy, but Apple just wont see the tree's from the forest.

For me personally, even 256 GB storage has been a waste. With the 2 TB iCloud storage, shared between my wife and I, and optimized storage enabled, I’m currently only utilizing <38/256 GB of storage on the device.
512 GB seems totally unnecessary, to me.
That would be a whole lot to lose anyway if you dropped/lost/broke your device with that much stored locally.

I don't get it either. I have 208GB free on my iPhone X 256. There are 205 apps, 3000 photos, 30 videos, and 90 songs on the device. I have unlimited data and 2TB iCloud so what's the point of keeping my entire music library on the device itself? And if you aren't paying for unlimited data, wouldn't that be cheaper than paying for the storage upgrade on the device itself?

Yuck!
Exactly. No one wants a device that needs a stylus—Apple learned that with the Newton. That’s why iPhones and iPads don’t need a stylus. They actually work with your finger!

And they work amazingly well, thanks to their capacitive touchscreen. Some are too young to remember the crappy resistive screens that were so common before the iPhone. They were horrible to use, and pretty much required a stylus since they couldn’t reliably detect your finger.

A definite yuck!

Steve Jobs was known to change his mind often, no one can say for sure that he wouldn’t be doing the same (obviously that’s if the rumour is true).

We will have to see what Apple announce, it’s only about a month away now.

I wonder if Samsung will worry tho if Apple do decide to do a stylus since their sales are already not very good, does Apple want to launch a bigger blow or do they just not care, it’s interesting to see what happens.

a typical screw up with 64G memory again. We know Apple how much you like your customers(' $)

No requirement for you to buy an LCD screen, nor does Apple making a model with one block or harm anyone wanting to buy an OLED version. So your wish is mostly just wishing others can't get a phone model they might want. If it came true, you wouldn't personally gain anything... nor lose anything.

Buy the one you want. Others may find value in the LCD version... or just enjoy the lower price for something where they might not even be able to see a difference (especially when they are not using each technology side by side).

What's the difference to the average Joe? Why do I care about OLED over LCD?

So, no more 4” phones like the SE? Or will it be the ‘one more thing’-surprise?
I’ve seen too many people switching back from larger iPhones to just the SE.
I myself am happy with the 4” size, never even considered to moving to a larger phone. Yes, I’ve checked them out. They look gorgeous but the increased size doesn’t work with me even though I need to use my reading glasses.

I love the size of the SE to , because it fits in my pocket , i have a ipad and a small phone .
a small phone easey to operate in 1 hand, it just fits in my pocket and OMG its a real strong phone does not bend you can drop it with nothing breaking its outlasting any phone i ever had. I know plenty people that dont want 7+ inch monster and dont want to pay a 1000 bucks for a upgrade that does not give me any thing new i need. i would love a bit larger screen. There are only 2 company's in the world making small powerful phones Apple and Sony . if apple only starts making big phones , well i'm switching back to sony compact in January.

I sometimes wonder what "wonder power" the MR faithful demand each year for something that is basically a phone - a device that will (and I will give you this advice for free unlike some "analysts") year on year get generally dearer, thinner and faster and lately larger...

I don't buy that one either. Apple just became the first trillion dollar company in American history, they just had their best third quarter ever, beat every analyst's expectation, ARPU is at an all time high, and the iPhone X remains the best selling iPhone. The most expensive iPhone is also the best selling iPhone, which never used to be the case until the X was released. What, among all of those things, could possibly lead someone to think "Well gee, we better lower the price because the market clearly thinks this thing is too expensive"?
There’s a balancing point, and Apple is very good at finding it. As they increase their ability to rake in profits from services revenue, it can make sense to take an upfront hit in device profit. They can more than make up for it in recurring revenues.

For example, if they introduce an over the top service like directv now/sling/Vue/Hulu Live I’d expect they’d be only to happy to give you an AppleTV.

This is Apple we're talking about here. They don't give hardware away for free, and why would they reduce the cost of hardware when the market has clearly demonstrated a willingness to pay the current prices? People view the services costs as separate from the hardware costs. Nobody is going to say "Gee, I really like the look of the Apple streaming service, but I did just pay $1000 for my iPhone. I'll go with DirecTV Now instead just to spread the wealth."

The note was never as big a seller as the S series but it would definitely knock the wind out of their sales as the note is their special device.

The 6.1" LCD model is the new iPhone SE, it's just that most people haven't realized it yet. You answered your own question in the first sentence of your post.
No, the SE is a $349 phone, the 6.1” will be twice that. With an A9/2GB RAM, the SE is plenty fast (like the 6S/6S Plus) and doesn’t need upgrading.

The 4.7” screen is more desirable to most than the 4.0” screen—especially if your phone is your only computer—so the 6S may take over the budget spot. I wouldn’t be surprised if the SE form factor is discontinued, once they can make a larger phone for about the same cost.

There are times when you need a more precise tool, especially on the iPad.

699 wouldn’t be surprising if it’s essentially replacing the spot that the iPhone 8 Plus (and previously 7 Plus) occupied.

This is going to make the regular iPhone 8 price point VERY compelling. A very capable phone, with the only drawback being 2GB of RAM.

The other tech companies didn’t see the need to increase their prices as much as Apple did after Brexit. iPhone X starts at $999 US dollars that means £999 to Apple. The galaxy note 9 starts at $999 but is only £899 in the UK.
