So basically, so far, this seems just like a response in hardware to other competitors, such as the S10. With Samsung's seemingly-near bi-annual releases, it is hard to tell who is leading/who is following with new ideas and innovation, versus just trying to keep up with the other.

There are still plenty of good third party wireless chargers out there and I'm sure Apple will release a first party one at some point. Just because AirPower is dead doesn't mean wireless charging is dead, Apple clearly believes that future is wireless and portless.
Not unless it would mean Apple shipping something that doesn't work out of the box.

"We've got wireless AirPods (but we need a port for the earpods in the box because we're not gonna give you AirPods)"

"We've got wireless charging (but we need a port because we're not gonna give you a wireless charger for free)"

Apple needs ports and "Apple clearly believes that future is wireless and portless" is non-sense.

They are actually suggesting 2019 will see the following new iPhones:
- iPhone XR 2
- iPhone XS 2
- iPhone XS Max 2
- iPhone X1
- iPhone X1 Max
That's if I read the article correctly.
No. The X has been gone since the XS/XR came out.

But any rumor that Apple will keep the XS/Max as well as release a new top-end triple lens phone won’t be believed by me. What the new phone, if true, will do is kill the 7 and push down the 8’s price, so TouchID holdouts will be happy.

I remain happy with my iPhone X. The only thing left for me to decide is whether to get an AirPod or not.

You know what's great, that I can't use my Lighting headphones that came with my iPhone XS on a new Macbook Pro or the new iPad Pro which is now USB C. So the continuity even within their lines is blurred even more now. Also, I love that the iPhone XR, the cheaper, model has "The
What did you expect? If you'd buy a "Magic Keyboard" or a "Magic Trackpad" together with your super expensive MBP and maybe your LG Ultrafine 5K monitor - there is not a single place to connect your magic accessories to since they ship with USB-A type connectors. This is what I call truly "magic".

All I want:

Phone that is flush and doesn't have/need a bump - even if a little thicker
Better Battery Life - Even if a little thicker
In-Screen Fingerprint Reader
Edgeless OLED display or near edgeless
Headphone jack/USB-C so that i can go between devices with my accessories/dongles or they could integrate lightening into their other products
Wireless Charging

After I wrote that I realized I just described the Galaxy S10.... well that blows because I've never owned an Android.

Having a hard time believing Apple will release FIVE new phones, two of which are surely going to be still more expensive than the three we already currently have.

I'm actually having trouble keeping up with all the iPhone options now. This is no longer a simple choice.

There is a beauty in simplicity.

Keep the line up simple, keep the naming system simple.

Doesn’t mean we can’t have choice, we just don’t need too much choice.

And nobody wants the next iPhone to be called ‘iPhone XS Max Plus 2000’ or whatever

But they're still riding a wave that Jobs created. Even though there's no innovation, the company is still making money, including everyone at the top. So there's not much incentive to push people out. I think the company knows Tim Cook is bad for business but they don't know who to put in his place. They've gone to a business model where they do what everyone else is doing, and try to do it as good or better than the competition. The days of Apple being the trend setters are over.

Tim should be VP of the diversity and inclusion department, not the CEO.

Sadly, I agree with you.

I believe this. Apple can sell the higher end iPhones with cool features and USB-C, while keeping the other iPhones fairly similar to last year’s.

It’s smart honestly. Have a whole spectrum of options / price options, but have the most dramatic changes be the most expensive.
That approach is what killed the company in the 80/90s. Jobs focused on a smaller product lineup and made sure each one was incredible and this made it easier for customers to know which product to choose. Just look at the bloated Mac and iPad line up.

Yes. Blind leadership - there is no visionary at the helm. Apple is looking at trends, complying with them, then tosses out a few things to see what sticks.
If that's really their strategy, how incredibly fortunate they must feel when everything sticks.

smh. No.

Apple believes in a wireless future. Just because they failed to engineer a wireless charger that can charge anywhere on its surface, doesn’t mean Apple will drop wireless charging. lol that’s absurd.

And I don’t think AirPower would’ve charged your device any faster than any other wireless charger. It’s best used when you go to bed or are putting your phone down to charge as you switch to an iPad or Mac.

AirPower probably would have been faster, at least for future models. The iPhone comes with a 5W adapter, but current models support 7.5W wireless charging. And the Galaxy line is already at 12W. 15W wireless chargers are already out there, but I'm not aware of any phone can take advantage them.

It would be insane for Apple to abandon wireless charging based on the current iPhone using the included adapter.

How about making a thicker phone with a larger battery that lasts 2 days? Now, that's innovation!
Even one or two millimeters more in thickness makes the current wide phones extremely difficult to use.

I have an X with a case and it would be impossible to use with a case if the current size with the case would be the size without a case. It’s quite thick already.

Get the Smart Battery Case if you need bigger battery. It’s probably somewhat difficult to use too, but at least it’s difficult only for people who need longer battery life, not for everybody.

Why not just put a camera on ever back corner of the iPhone, along with a flash by each? Then each photo taken would have the capabilities of having 3D depth and auto-correction for parallax/perspective distortions. The four flashes would then even out on each photo, as needed.

This 4 camera design would then look symmetrical and pleasing to the eye, and lay flat as well, along with all the extra features a 4 camera system would allow.

I'm betting this is the design the iPhone will end up having in the future. Up until they are able to make the whole backside of the camera one big camera lens. : )

To everybody complaining about the camera array:

Who cares? Do you spend your days looking at it, or what?

I'm guessing that the people who complain about the camera array are people who care. I deduced this based on their complaining about the camera array.

I do not mind the lenses on the back, if indeed wide-angle and very-poor light exposures are improved, commingled with flawless, optical stabilization.

I carry my iphone inside a bespoke, leather sleeve that protects it and fits its dimensions perfectly.
So I do not mind protrusion.

But what I do mind, is the current obsession for super-sized iPhones.
These phablet-sized phones are ergonomic nightmares -- just to carry around, to hold, and to interact.

Still waiting for a rebirth of a modern execution of the SE form factor.
But, apparently, to Cooke "size matters"./s

I don't know if I totally buy into this, but if it turns out to be true -- holy smokes, can somebody say "fragmentation"? Yikes.

Christ, I'm so tired of that camera bump. Make the phone a few millimeters thicker to make the camera flush and, I dunno, add and extra 15% or so battery life in the process. It's a win-win.

And make it a "normal" sized phone for once. Tired of these phablet monstrosities.
