I have the XS Max but I think I prefer the 5.8" size so I'm planning on getting the 11 Pro with the dark green color, assuming that color debuts. The 3 lens camera, improved Face ID, and A13 chip are enough improvements for me to switch.

Yikes. None of this will be good enough to stop the hemorrhaging marketshare and users switching to Android.

Looks like Apple is literally banking on 6 & 6S users finally upgrading their devices. That is a huge gamble and putting way too much stake into the brand loyalty, IMO. I don’t think many will be, and if they do, I don’t necessarily think they’ll be staying with Apple. Risky move here with reusing the same design again and adding very little while keeping costs high...

Wake me when the base model comes with 128GB of storage (like most of the Samsung phones now do). Then, I may consider upgrading.

Funny thing is Samsung also has micro SD card storage. So you can add more storage or swap an old storage card for a new one.

Can you feel the tension in the air? Happens every year around this time.

It’s iPhone keynote season and keyboard warriors are already getting prepared. They’re dusting off all their tired old memes from years past so they’re ready to wield at a moments notice. It’s one of the highest Internet traffic days of the year, and it ain’t gonna be pretty.

Not sure what you mean to say here, is it happening?

I'm a 6s+ user and still in no mood to upgrade. My wife has a pixel 3a and honestly that kind of camera at that price really tempts me to go android next year. That the Xs/XsMax still can't match that camera is a huge bummer. I will not be surprised if the new iPhone cameras still fall short. I love the ecosystem that iOS offers, love the integration between all devices. I am heavily invested in it. I really want the iPhone to up its game in the camera department. It used to be class leading. Wonder why it stopped being so.

A shatter resistant iPhone would equate to no tempered screen protector or case for me.

And maybe no case, although the protruding camera on the back would make it too wobbly.
iPhone 5 was the last phone I run naked, the camera wasn't protruding and it was less slippery than iPhone 6 as it had squared edges. The new iPad is similar to that, so I wonder if a future version of iPhone will feature a similar design. That, and no camera bulge, would finally allow me to get rid of the case.

This iPhone release doesn’t interest me. Not in the slightest. Hard pass.

I AM interested in that giant MacBook Pro and hope it’s released next month, although I suspect we won’t see it until October.

If the MBP update is more than a new screen on an old chassis I would advise going slow. Apple does not have a good track record with the first year of major updates to the MacBook Pro line. As examples look at the issues of the 2011 (radeongate, screen delamination) retina 15" and 2016 MBP family (keyboard, display issues after a year, etc). Best models are the last year of the old design. After Apple works most of the bugs out of the units.

I hear ya, and you have a point, that's for sure. Let's just say I'm less excited than I used to be. Then again, I am 45, the euphoria has worn off of a lot of things, but I digress.

It's easy to upgrade for me too, with AT&T next, I can upgrade every 12 months. So far I'm just......meh about it all.

As long as you keep paying and paying. Subscription services are a huge money maker for companies. But it is shocking just how much more you pay for a phone. I did the numbers and that go me off the subscription treadmill.

You are correct there—1st rev’s have a track record of, um, “issues.”

I have TMo Jump on Demand so I always upgrade by default. Interested in the improved cameras mainly.

In Australia, the 6S is still being sold as a new phone through telcos.. I assume as the prices of iPhones here has skyrocketed (For a variety of reasons)... The 6S is still a very capable phone, but its nearly 4 years old!

That makes total sense. I felt that way over the past couple of years. Even though I wanted the new iPhones, I wasn’t super excited about the events. But now I feel like we’ve reached a very good place and I’m really hyped for what’s going to come this year and beyond.

Good, because current iPhones have zero water resistance unless brand new, just out of the box.
I have friends who accidentally ran the original 2007 iPhone through a dishwasher and it still worked. I've never heard of anyone damaging and XS from water

even when the devices are laying flat on a table for example.

With the camera protrusion on the back I assume "laying flat" is never possible? ;)
has anyone every used an iPhone without a case?

I'm in for the Face ID improvements alone
iOS 13 brings some pretty substantial improvements to Face ID. I just started beta testing it last week and the difference is a serious breath of fresh air for a system that already was at the top of its class. Apple wasn't kidding when they claimed a 30% improvement with iOS 13

So I would say wait for the software update (unless you're brave enough to download the beta, but the releases are fairly stable now, as you would hope being less than a month out from release haha) and see if that doesn't scratch your itch before buying the new phone

If the rumors are true that the max will have near 1000mah larger battery that is enough to convince me to upgrade this year

Agree. Also been running the beta. Really is just about those angles for me now for when my phone's sat on the desk. Curious to see the new tech in action

My wife iPhone X has two cracked corners and has been dropped many times, but its still water proof, take it into the pool and do underwater videos of the kids. Never had problem.

I am far more excited about the software/services end this year than hardware.

omg multi-angle face id!!!
so far it's the only thing that i would actually want from what we know so far about the 2019 model.

RE: "with a new co-processor known internally as "AMX" or "matrix."

It's for Fast Color Space conversions.

For example, converting from Display P3 to P3 PQ or P3 HLG requires applying a Xfer Function / Gamma "Matrix" to every single pixel value.

It's a very BIG benefit for P3 HLG, as that's for Live Broadcasts.

PQ is for streaming content, On Demand videos & movies.

As a reminder, P3 & HLG are the two most-popular HDR formats for BIG screen TVs.

I remember during the iPhone X event, Apple showed off this bit of marketing with the woman unlocking her iPhone that was laying flat and she was at an angle. But I've since been able to rarely experience that kind of accuracy and I have the absolute latest hardware and software that one can even have at the moment..

I bet you don’t even use up 32 GB

But let’s go ahead and give Apple an ultimatum and demand that they impress me as I type away furiously on my 2008 iMac in my parent’s basement

What has the amount of space that people use got to do with anything?

People are paying Apple the same (actually probably more) than similarly specced devices that come with double the amount of storage.

If the last year has taught Apple anything it be that it shouldn't take the health of its phone sales for granted. The market is becoming increasingly competitive and more can be had for less. Particularly as those nasty old tariffs are coming to make their phones look even poorer value.

Cool that Face ID works flat on tables. Hopefully the iPhone itself will work flat on tables without rattling around due to the camera "bulge"! This is the worst thing about my iPhone X!
