It’s funny to see the responses given this is an unverified rumor. If true, however, I would likely refrain from upgrading my X until 2020. I am definitely hoping that we get USB-C this year - it was the main feature I’m looking forward to.

Also, I sincerely hope that Apple strengthens its oleophobic coating. I haven’t had a display crack in ages, but there’s definitely plenty of microabrasions!!

Is there a dongle to plug in an iPad Pro USB-C into my mid 2012 MBP non retina? I can't seem to find one. Maybe that's why they don't roll USB-C out yet for the iPhone. That would be aweful to buy a new device and no way to sync it on the computer. Maybe via wifi?

If Apple improved the included charger, they couldn't claim as many additional jobs they're creating in the world.

Ha! The previous rumors of USB-C and a better charger debunked.

I just knew Apple would find a way to continue to cheap out and disappoint us. Now, that's the Cupertino I know and love.

So? apple could provide a software option that switched fact charging on and off like some of their competition is doing(most notably Samsung). So problem solved if you wan to charge the phone slowly.

And just add more complexity to the design and have to educate users on how rates of charge work, battery health and longevity?

None of this is very relevant (most phones charge overnight and most people don't connect their phones anywhere besides charging) and so it is a pity Apple won't suffer much because of this.
Providing a 5W charger around 2020 in flagships is beyond cheap. Some time ago the size was a reasonable explanation, people charge overnight and like small chargers but now...
They don't even need to provide a 20W charger, 10W would be much better.
MB and iPhone connection is even worse, there is no simple way of Apple to solve this. If they put USB C on the iPhone, you would still need a new cable (C to C) as chargers tend to have USB A on them and the phone comes with a cable to charge it.
They could redesign the charger to use C to C cables but that would break usefulness with other cables/devices. Well thinking of it they would probably do just that. And USB C everywhere would be an elegant solution.
Of course Apple could simply recognize that USB A isn't CD mk2 or Flopply drive mk2 and just provide it on every computer.

It takes Olympics-level mental gymnastics to defend apple for putting a 5W charger in a phone that costs $1.5k+
Disagree...the vast majority of people likely have no idea how many watts their charger is and charge it night, making it irrelevant.

If you’re a person that wants it, buy a more robust charger. Makes no sense to put a high powered charger in 200M boxes if only a small percentage care.

Apple knows this to be the case or it would be different.

What complexity? What's so complicated about a software toggle in the battery settings?

You want to see complexity take a look at how you can torn on and off Auto brightness on iphones.

And just add more complexity to the design and have to educate users on how rates of charge work, battery health and longevity?

Not all iPhone users are incompetent, and not all design changes are more complex.

And Apple could easily come up with a prompt like, "Would you like to charge your battery more slowly? Yes/No/Settings."

As cool as USB-C would be for cross-platform compatibility, part of me is glad that they are sticking with lightning.

I've heard reports of USB-C ports failing on Macbooks, becoming loose and unreliable after a few months of heavy use. This has never happened with Lightning in my experience.

One of the beautiful things about Apple design, in most cases, is when they make these choices for you. Adding more settings like this just seems like terrible design.

It's likely a tiny niche of users who understand charge rates and know when they need to use a faster rate of charge. Moving up from 5W to maybe 7.5W or 10W wouldn't be bad. But going into much faster chargers in the box would be a waste. Those who need it likely already have faster means of charging.

If this is true, this is pathetic. I understand having the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus provided with 5W chargers next September as the boxes are already in the supply chain, but replacements for XR, XS and XS Max should move to 18W and USB-C to lightning.
The cables cost the same and the increased volume should reduce the production cost of the chargers. No excuse

Why should they switch to USB-C on the charger side? So they won’t be compatible with 98% of the charging ports in the world? So Apple customers will have to buy USB-C to USB-A adapters?

Apple could easily make sensible and useful choices for you.

They can easily detect charging patterns and slow charge at night. After a few days the phone knows when it is usually charged.

Somewhere in a setting nobody would go into you could tweak this.

I think Apple is planning to remove the USB port entirely. I actually think they wanted to do that this or last year, but held it back because of the AirPower not being ready soon enough.

Nice. Same brick they have been using since the iPhone 3G. Or maybe it was the 3GS. All I know is that Apple packaging needs a major overhaul.
First of all, why is the folder with all the documentation on top? Steve Jobs always believed that the first thing a customer should see would be the product. Thats why with the iPads and Macs, the computer is right at the top. So fix that.
Then, include some better accessories. Fast charging brick, USBC cable, and AirPods. That would be the dream

And, if this rumor turns out to be true, the 2019 iPhones will continue to not sell well... just like the 2018 models.

The people at Apple can’t possibly be THAT stupid.
