Apple could easily make sensible and useful choices for you.

They can easily detect charging patterns and slow charge at night. After a few days the phone knows when it is usually charged.

Somewhere in a setting nobody would go into you could tweak this.

Yep, recent trends indicate Apple does not care about user personalization, it's either the Apple way or no way. ISTM that Apple thinks options are complicated and users too stupid to use them correctly.

If true, it's sad and pathetic. This is why so many are starting to abandon Apple and delay upgrades. There is no excuse for such penny-pinching.

I really want USB-C just because the gold contacts on the lightning connector are exposed and fall out over time. I go through about 2-3 lightning cables a year because of this. Once one side of the contacts fall out, the cable can only go in one way otherwise it won't charge. USB-C has hidden contacts and shouldn't be susceptible to this problem.

Unpopular opinion: most people are charging devices overnight, and 5W is more than sufficient for these use cases. Also, long term slower charges are better for battery health.
The unpopular can stay unpopular. 5W was for when iPhone has 1,400ish mAh.

2G -> 1,400
3G -> 1,150
3GS -> 1,220
4 -> 1,420
4S -> 1,430
5 -> 1,440
5S -> 1,560
5C -> 1,510
SE -> 1,624
6 -> 1,810 ......6+ -> 2,915
6S -> 1,715 ....6S+ -> 2,750
7 -> 1,960 ......7+ -> 2,900
8 -> 1,821 ......8+ -> 2,691
X -> 2,716
XS -> 2,658 ....XS Max -> 3,174
XR -> 2,942

They dont care about their customers / laugh at them while taking their money

There is no other explanation for this depraved level of penny pinching
You understand your jumping to conclusions based on a rumour right ? Wait for factual evidence before you get on a hissy fit please. There is enough of that nonsense going on.

I have an iPhone XS and an iPad Pro 10.5". I would upgrade both in 2019 if the iPhone goes USB C just to have a single cable for everything. Lightning and micro USB need to die.

I have yet to seen anyone outside of Tech circle demand USB-C on iPhone.

I could understand the Charger be USB-C though, so the cable will be USB-C to lightning.

Note on fast Charging.

Including a 15W Charger as default will be great, but currently that cost likely $8+ more BOM cost. And that is a lot.

Just use alcohol to clean it.

the 5w charger is a slap in the face. my iP6 still has the 5w brick in the box as does the X.

If all their engineers are busy trying to solve the laptop then I can see how they don't have the staff available to figure out how to put the iPad Pro USB C circuitry in the phone.

Hopefully, empty rumors,but if not...

... Apple brags about being environmentally friendly, but the number of practically useless 5w chargers that are never even taken out of the box (all for the sake of saving a few pennies) is fairly egregious in 2019.

Why don't we wait to see what actually happens before dragging Apple over the coals based on a rumor...

Not really, we want them to see these comments and know they need to change their ways before they send the purchase orders to their suppliers. We are all voting with our wallets and our comments.

I'm seeing a lot of negative reactions. I'm a big fan of USB-C. However, I don't think most people will care about this. Plus, it's just a charger. If you really like USB-C, you will already have such a charger.

Small thing is that you'll probably want a USB-C-to-Lightning cable and these are costly right now.

Seriously, what are you doing on this site then? Complaining? That can't be good for your heart.

I don't care between lightning and USB-C, but the wattage of the charger does make a difference. There are demos online that show the phone being charged significantly faster on the 10 and 18W chargers.

Even cheap-o $200 Androids provide more than a 10W charger. Apple doesn't provide it, because in typical post-Jobs fashion, they figure that 95% of people don't realize this, and they can save $1 or so on a cheaper charger. Meanwhile, they sell separately for $50 a better charger. It's just disgusting.

For a $1000+ phone it just reeks of stinginess, which has taken over Apple badly in the past few years. I'm afraid after being nickeled and dimed on dongles, a dinky 5GB iCloud account (another insult), and other non-sense, this is the straw that will break the camels back for me.

I just can't see it, especially after they put USB-C in the iPad now. Apple should have put USB-C in the iPhone X, it didn't. It should have DEFINITELY put it in the XS/XR, it didn't.

They have to let go of their cash cow lightning in favor of USB-C or they will be crucified for it.

So my dreams of having one charger to rule them all will be delayed another year.

MacBook Pro, iPad Pro, GoPro7, Louis Vuitton Earphones, Work issued Google Pixel.....

iPhone.
One of my peeves about the iPhone is that one can't insert an external SD memory card, which makes offloading GoPro photos much simpler, and since the advent of the 7 I can't use my Sennheiser headphones without a dongle. Apple has been successful in losing me as a customer for iPhones and MacBooks.
