It’s not an unnecessary remark. Being green, minimizing waste, helping to prolong the life of iPhones is all part of it.

Well with batteries degrading after a year and dongles galore strategy, their computer repair strategy(and soled RAM, Storage, sealed computers..) etc. Apple's doesn't seem to care that much about waste.
You keep mentioning things that don't add up. Funny.
This will be my third time asking you now - what rate of charger do you think they should include in the box?
Their top phone should include a 35-40W charger.

I can claim putting “bright” in the settings search brings one to the setting that manages it. So one doesn’t even have to know where it is.
Yeah the setting is still buried in a place that doesn't make sense.

And you managed to ignore a simple question 3 times now: What rate charger do you think should be bundled with iPhones?

I’m sure you’ll ignore it again and continue to deflect. Just shows that you truly don’t understand.

Makes sense to me where it is. Display is part of accessibility. Hence the setting is under accessibility.
Of course it makes sense to you, otherwise the sky would fall and the world would end.
Nobody is overestimating you.

The auto-brightness option should be in the Display & Brightness section. But that would probably make too much sense.

Unpopular opinion: most people are charging devices overnight, and 5W is more than sufficient for these use cases. Also, long term slower charges are better for battery health.
I charge overnight and am fine with slow charging speeds for that. However there are also times that I'm working from a coffee shop and my battery is getting low. I have my new MacBook Pro on a charger and I can't plug my iPhone into it to charge without buying either a $20 USB-C to Lightning cable or a USB-A adapter (which is probably the real reason they won't change - gotta sell those dongles and extra cables).

It is crazy that for going on 3 years you still can't just plug your iPhone into your MacBook Pro without buying more cables.

The 5w charger generates the least amount of heat of all the charging methods. Whether one cares about it is a personal value consideration.
I don’t see any negative effects of charging with iPad charger. My brother on the other hand has S8 for 10 months and it already dies at 50-60% from fast charging heat. My iPhone X 14 months old 97% health and lasts me virtually as long as the day I bought it. So it’s not unreasonable to ask for at least 10-12W charger.

By that token of course it doesn’t make sense for you.

I really want USB-C just because the gold contacts on the lightning connector are exposed and fall out over time. I go through about 2-3 lightning cables a year because of this. Once one side of the contacts fall out, the cable can only go in one way otherwise it won't charge. USB-C has hidden contacts and shouldn't be susceptible to this problem.
At least you can dig the lint out of a Lightning port. I think people forget the difficulties of the 30-pin connector, or micro-USB and USB-C as well. Also I’ve had to replace micro-USB ports before because of broken pins inside. It is far better to have them break on the cable end.

Shocker. Bigger charger, bigger packaging necessary. Higher costs. Unless US sheeps stop buying they will keep doing what they’ve been doing.

I am not sure of the advantage of USB C on an iPhone. Its not as robust as lightning and will be heavily neutered, so there wont be any functional advantages. For me, I wont be buying any more iPad "Pros", stick to standard ones from now on that will likely retain lighting and I will use iXpand memory devices, so I dont have to pay ridiculous prices for Apple memory (2 X iPhones, 2 X iPads).

One of my peeves about the iPhone is that one can't insert an external SD memory card, which makes offloading GoPro photos much simpler, and since the advent of the 7 I can't use my Sennheiser headphones without a dongle. Apple has been successful in losing me as a customer for iPhones and MacBooks.

Imagine when we can finally connect the GoPro from C to C to an iPhone and offload it.

Nah. It needs at least 100W!

Odd seeing people saying ‘ok wait another year’ over such a minor part of the phone. Surely there might be other features that would sway you? Might find the hype over whatever is on the 2019 phones has greater pull than the horrors of a port you don’t like.

I hear you but some things might not be so minor to us. Whenever I use a lightning cable and plug my iPhone into any PC, charging is damn near a trickle charge. Our new PCs have a usb-c and when I plug my Pixel into it, it charges much faster.

Let’s be honest. This is a smart decision because no one will choose an Android over an iPhone solely because of a fast charger. Sure it is cheap as hell for Apple to do this but from a profit margins perspective it’s a good idea. People will just mildly annoyed an buy a fast charger and thus more money to apple.

Talking about cost saving measures with a phone that costs a minimum of $800 and most versions over $1000... suggests Apple is drinking too much of its own Kool-Aid if true. Hopefully not true. Remember its a rumor before getting too uptight.

A rumor yes, but sadly likely true. I'm fully aligned with your calling BS on their "cost saving measures".

I know it is naive to ask after all these years but how about Apple doing something nice for the consumer rather than pinch every penny. 5 watt vs 18? Throw us a bone Apple, same with USB-C, time to end the convolutions in the Apple Cable World.
