Given Purdy’s injury, I wouldn’t be surprised to see the 49ers bring back Jimmy G for one more year.

They really don't control this unless they want to franchise him and pay him $32M for the year. Otherwise he is a free agent.

Did this year's yet another season ending injury mean he's no longer anybody's pick for a starting position somewhere?
He only option is to be a backup for someone and truth be told, he seems to excel in that role.

Maybe if he didn't get injured all the time
The bigger problem is that he has a reputation for not being tough enough. It might or might not be deserved but things like that are hard to overcome in the ultra-conservative NFL.

Yep, unfortunately he is just not durable enough for a starting position.
Tua is another one, but he's still on his rookie contract. If Tua gets hurt or any more concussions you can bet the Dolphins will be looking to move on from him

He will probably never live up to his theoretical potential given the new, much stricter concussion protocols. He’s already had too many. He’d be better off taking off a year or two to let his brain heal. But that doesn’t fly in the NFL.

the injuries are definitely an issue, but there are teams that are desperate enough that he might land a spot for another couple of years as a starter.....he'll be 32 this Fall so he doesn't have a lot of time left in his career

but there are teams that are desperate
Maybe but wasn't he a free agent before re-signing with SF? No one seemed hot to trot for him last year. I think for the right price he could be signed, but what he views his worth and what teams view may be completely different

my recollection is that he'd signed a pretty big contract with SF and any team trading for him would be obligated to pay it, plus it was said that SF was demanding a lot in return for a trade........and given the shoulder surgery, it wasn't clear when he'd even be able to play.

last year during the off season Shanahan was saying he didn't expect to have Garoppolo back with the team for 2022.....but he ended up playing for SF and did well after Lance was injured.....until he suffered yet another injury himself

Certainly he'd be just a short term solution for any team that signed him, but theree are teams with far worse quarterback situations who could use him right away....until the next injury anyway

That said, a back up role may be all that'll come his way

It was 20 years ago... https://i.imgflip.com/7a20ny.jpg

Spot on. That said, apparently the revenue they were receiving from being in Oakland was a pittance and kept them from being competitive ... or so they thought. Turns out they are a poorly run team with an idiot at the helm.

Good shout and, as a RAIDER fan, I am mostly agreed.

My mistake…and my sympathies. 😆

A competitive Raiders team would be good for fans, and the division, rich in the old AFL history.

Jimmy G is good enough to be a starter, and likely will be next year, for some team other than SF.

The one-year deal to stay with SF this past season means he's completely free to sign where he wants, with no-trade, and no-tag clauses. If that team doesn't have a good O-line, though, beware. He's been a different player since tearing up his knee, and he's not durable enough to survive in the pocket if his reads don't work. Despite being a rookie, Purdy's ability to improvise, as well as his command of the offense, allowed Shanahan to expand his playbook. Hopefully, his elbow won't hinder him in the future, as it would be interesting to see if he develops further, or not, and Midnight strikes.

With other contracts due, SF can't afford Jimmy, for what he'd want to be paid, even as a backup.

That was coming off shoulder surgery, his current foot injury won't require it.

Yes, but I believe its also his inability to stay healthy

Just read an article in the Guardian, a preview for tonights Super Bowl… seems most journalists think an Eagles victory by a clear 10 points is likely. But there’s always the possibility of an upset.

I don't know, its too close to call, and I've flipped flopped on who to root for. Right now, its the Eagles - for no particular reason other then I get tired of the talk about how great Mahomes and how he's the new goat. I mean right before or after their first super bowl they were already crowning him the greatest of all.

I wish they could both lose, or at least the game end in a 0-0 tie, but since I have to make a choice I'll be rooting for the Eagles. :p I think they win the game 28-17.

This right here is why I am pulling for the Eagles. This!

I haven’t been paying attention. How is Mahomes ankle? I’m going to guess that his ankle will determine whether or not it will be close.

He was not on the injury list, so it should be good.

My take is if the Chiefs can get a lead and keep the run game going, they will win. If the Eagles get the lead and the Chiefs are forced to pass, the Eagles rushers will make Mahomes life rough.

My prediction, Chiefs by 7.

I'm picking the Chiefs, but not having one of the teams I usually cheer for in the game......Im liking the excuse to have adult drinks before nightfall

Is it just me or does the field look pretty torn up for it still being the first quarter? Maybe it's just something I've never noticed before...
