Problem is that he did a slightly better than mediocre job considering he was playing against 3rd-string and players who won't even be on the team by the time the season starts. IOW, he should have done much better.
If he's even on the team, he probably will start eventually. Not because he's any good, but because the Browns have no patience for anything. They throw rookie QBs to the wolves, and if they don't perform extremely well, they move on to the next QB on the roster. NOBODY is given time to get better, or get through an injury, etc.
We will all witness the same off-season and Draft next year as we saw this year with them. They'll get rid of Flacco, Watson, Sanders, Gabriel, and anyone else they may have. They will trade for another washed-up vet, and draft one or two (likely) overrated QBs. One of them will start the season, but will be benched by the 5th game at most.
Then we'll start the cycle again, except they will have also fired the head coach by then and any QB on the roster will have to learn a whole new system that doesn't suit the players they have.
It's really quite comical, if not predictable.
