does screen take time to yellow or gray band or is this issue immediately upon setup of imac....

I am looking to buy a 27" iMac. Is the issue with the yellowing/flickering confined to a certain set up, etc C2D or i5 or i7 or are all systems effected?
thanks, this will be my first mac and I want the experience to a good one.

Yes it's limited to a certain setup: 21" or 27" with the IPS Panel produced by LG. OOOOPs! That's all of them.

--> Unlimited Problem, qed! <-- Unfortunately for us, the buyers, not so for Apple, it seem.

Sorry no personal offence intended, but man am I annoyed that I fell for them!

Hi,
I found it to be easily visible. You take something light gray (like the title bar of any window) and observe the colour while dragging it down the screen (look at the lower right, most machines have it there).
You may also want to save the "test" linked in the very first post of this thread to a USB stick (may be PC formatted, Mac will read NTFS and read&write FAT32)

Good luck!

Unfortunately with the reflections, it's kinda hard to discern what is what. :)

Not sure what Apple's policy is on checking the panel's out (might be country dependent too). I'm sure someone will chime in who's had the experience.

Okay sorry about that how about now:

that's really sad man ! honestly that picture makes me just bail on the idea of purchasing my first imac i7 :S.

Hope you get it fixed soon, Good Luck :)

Apple customer care called back today. They said they were unaware of any serious problems with the 27" iMac screens, let alone some replacement screens being just as bad. The store won't accept the machine back, so the only option is to go for another repair, although Apple would consider giving me some sort of "appeasement" if I hold on to the machine and try another repair.

The store pointed out that the machine was bought in November so that's why they were unable to offer a refund or replacement. I made the point that Apple were aware of defects soon after launch and asked customers to try the software updates which would resolve the problems, but this and now a replacement hasn't rectified the fault.

Problem is that if I try to get some money back by putting the machine up for sale on eBay, the next buyer is going to be in the exact same situation as me.

I got mine c2d end of dec
I didn't notice the yellow tint until I ran some test at the end of january

called apple care, they offered a screen replacement

the technician came, replaced it with a screen that's even worst
he tooked it off and say it's something wrong with the motherboard and asked for another time for repairing it

i say no, so i called apple care, requested refund
they say they can't offer it to me
i kept pushing it.. but still no (the lady on the line submitted request 2 times, i guess the 'higher' management don't want to refund it)

so at the end i was given 2 option, repair or replacement

so I'm taking the replacement now... hopefully it's gonna be ok in the next machine...

damn apple, i wonder why we are paying to become their QA testers

I actually think that panel looks pretty good. you're always going to get some backlight unevenness. No LCD panel is perfect, unlike some who would like you to think so.

My sad story

Hi guys

I would like to tell you my story of the 21.5 iMac i bought 2 weeks ago.
I live in Belgium and apparently the customer support off Apple isn't that good here.

Bought my iMac on saturday, 2 weeks ago. After 4 days of using it, i noticed a collor difrence and a yellow tinge in the bottom right corner. After paying like 1400 euros for the high end model i expect my machine to be perfect, no discussion possible.

So I took my iMac to the local apple store on monday where this apple technicus says i can't get a replacement machine because all they had to do was to replace my LED panel and my computer should be perfect. So i agreed to his, as i had no other choice. The apple technician promised me it would only take like 2 to 3 days to get my machine back. 8 long days and many, many phone calls later, i still don't have my machine back. The local apple store replaced my screen the first time, but this one had also the yellow tinge, according to them, so they ordered a second screen to replace. They called apple care for me to ask if they could give me a new machine, like i asked the local store several times. But as i'm typing here, i still don't got any answers. The only thing the apple store says is that it's not normal it takes so long to get the second screen delivered. I tried calling apple care several times myself, but they just keep promising they're working on it.

So i'm still waiting on apple care to decide wether i will get a new screen or a new machine.

Hope all this gets solved ASAP.

My Screen is being replaced tomorrow

They are coming to my house tomorrow to replace my screen. Has anyone had any luck with a recent screen replacement?

Thank you,

Chris

Machines getting worse and worse

This is my THIRD 27" i7 iMac:

First - week 5 machine - noticeable yellow tinge.

Second - week 7 machine - very loud LCD inverter during screen dim.

Third - week 9 machine - prominent yellow tinge - by far the worse of the three. My wife walked into the room as the machine was booting and said "what's wrong with the screen".

For those of you wondering if the problem is fixed, the answer is obviously no.

Ok, so I just got a 21.5" iMac a few days ago. It's model number was W8004xxxx.

It has a VERY slight yellow tint in the lower, slightly right corner. When I say slight yellow tint, I mean that sometimes it isn't even there. It's only ever noticeable in Safari and during the Apple Logo boot-up screen, and sometimes it doesn't appear in Safari either, even when that area of the browser is all white. If I hadn't done the "grey bar test", I probably wouldn't have ever noticed it.

It's actually kinda frustrating because it's so slight that I don't know if I should bother taking it in and if they'd even fix it if I did.

I had one last week which was worse, am putting it in again this week for another replacement.

As well as the yellow tinge, I have a fogging problem in the middle of the screen which is also still there after a replacement.

Let's see... you claim sometimes it's there, sometimes it's not... To me your eyes are playing tricks on you. You either have it or you don't... it does NOT come and go.

I say get on with it and just enjoy your imac and quit reading the forums.

new iMac 27'', call Apple ?

Hi everyone.
I've just received my first iMac 27'' (C2D) after several years as a Windows user.
I've read a lot of posts about users complaining of the yellowtint, flickering etc.
I took some printscreens of mine during the test at http://imac.squeaked.com/
What do you think about my display?
Is it yellow ?
Must I call Apple e and ask for a replacement ?
Thanks.

Your images are screenshots, lcaraffa.
You should take photos of your display and post them here.

Do you think its yellow? That's the important thing, in normal use, with the sort of stuff you do, does it look yellow?

OMG ! Here we are again ...

The problem is not what WE think. The problem is what YOU think !
Is it yellow for you ? Try to have another one (but remember that all the LCD have some color gradient, in a way).
Is it ok for you ? Go away from this and other threads like this.

There is a lot of people keep swapping iMacs just because they were told to do so ....
